Happy Thanksgiving Space Western Fans, - I'm thankful for my family: a wonderful and supportive wife and two beautiful healthy children.
- I'm thankful for the contributors to SpaceWesterns.com: the writers and illustrators and others who help to provide the quality entertainment.
- and lastly, but importantly, I'm thankful for you, the readers of the 'zine.
I hope everyone has a safe and happy holiday. Since last time we've published three new articles: by Robert Collins A standard Western trope is the one where an outsider rides into town, fixes a problem, and rides off into obscurity. Captain Ayers fills the role admirably. — ed. N.E. Lilly by N.E. Lilly Chapter 1 of the Cowboys and Aliens II web comic is complete and online. The comic will be returning from a two-week hiatus on November 19th, 2007. Until then, here's an interview with the Cowboys and Aliens II creative team, along with a sneak peak of chapter 2 — ed. N.E. Lilly by Cheryl McCreary Not all Space Westerns are bang-bang shoot‘em ups. Some are about broken men with forgotten pasts seeking the answers to life on back-water planets. — ed. N.E. Jane Espenson (Firefly, Serenity Found, Battlestar Gallactica) just announced that she's thrilled to be one of the judges as a part of her blog tour. I think that's really cool! Also look for her interview here on SpaceWesterns.com in December. We're really honored that she chose to make two stops on our website as a part of her blog tour. Don't forget to get your submissions for the contest in before November 10th: http://www.spacewesterns.com/contest/ Space Western Newscordially,

Hi Space Western Fans, I hope everyone had a great weekend. To follow up last week's announcement that there were only two weeks left to register for the Browncoat Ball, this week we bring you and interview with the 2007 Browncoat Ball Chair: Matt Black. --PUBLICITY DRIVE-- We didn't meet the goals that we set for our publicity drive, but we feel that the drive was successful, none-the-less. Our final numbers are: 1523 visitors for the month of August and 26 subscribers to the newsletter. However, we did receive a glut of traffic from a number of science fiction news sites that we never thought we'd be mentioned on. Keep up the good work! We received 0 of the hoped for 5 site sponsors, but this was offset a bit by signing up for Project Wonderful - an advertising auction program. Given these numbers as a baseline: we'd like to triple them by the end of September. And, just so you know, we have a LiveJournal account. You won't get any information there that you won't get here, but if you have friends that are MySpace addicts, and they like Space Westerns, it might be a good way for them to keep updated about the site. --SPACE WESTERN NEWS-- Ridley Scott announced this week at the Times Online that Sci-Fi films are as dead as Westerns... If only he would have told us that six months ago! Thanks for your continued support, and please continue to spread the word! cordially, N.E. Lilly editor, SpaceWesterns.com

http://www.spacewesterns.com/ SpaceWesterns.com is a free online magazine that has been publishing weekly since April 1st, 2007. It is devoted to the Space Western sub-genre and we'd like to get the signal out. SpaceWesterns.com publishes original Space Western fiction, interviews with Science Fiction Professionals on the topic of Space Westerns, and reviews of Space Western fiction — online in various formats.
Our current articles include:
- Interviews with Keith R.A. DeCandido, Mark L. Van Name, and David G. Hartwell
- Reviews of Space Western themed books and media
- A variety of Space Western stories
Highlights of upcoming articles include:
- Interviews with C.J. Henderson, "Tequila" Matt Black, and Lee Weinstein
- Downloads of exclusive audio content and music
- A Space Western themed poetry contest
- The next three tales in the Byanntia series
- And, of course, more Space Western stories
We think SpaceWesterns.com is a damn fine zine, but more people need to know about it. That's why we're initiating a publicity drive. Our goals for the end of August (which marks our six month) are:
- 500 subscribers to the e-mail newsletter
- 5000 visitors/month
- 5 site sponsors
What you can do to help:
- Mention SpaceWesterns.com on your blog, website, podcast, or newsletter
- Mention SpaceWesterns.com to relevant news sites, forums, social networks, and social bookmarking sites
- Tell your friends who like Space Westerns about the site
What we'd like to do with the publicity:
- Increase the recognition, relevance, and status of Space Westerns as a sub-genre
- Discourage people from using "Space Western" as a derogatory term
- Encourage people to submit content in additional formats (illustrations, comics, audio, video, animation, and games)
- Attract Sponsors
- Get more publicity
If you really like the magazine then donations towards its operating costs would be most welcome. What we'd do with the money:
- Purchase the rights to more fiction and non-fiction articles (in various formats)
- Raise our rates for submissions, so that we can pay more to the fabulous, talented, and hard-working creators of Space Westerns
- Commission Space Western fiction from big names
- Cover our hosting and development costs
