Hi all!
l have released a single called 'Wish' .... The song was submitted by 'Broxy' our lovely friend and founder of European Klassik Rock Radio. He heard this song many years ago and asked me to re-record it. Its about losing someone close at Christmas which I'm sure some of you will have sadly experienced.
There are two new tunes from me in addition to this. The first being 'Abandoned' which was written after I'd watched a documentary about the abandoned children in Mogilino, Bulgaria. The children in this particular institution were treated appalingly. Although they were bathed and fed daily, the food lacked the nutrients required for healthy development and they were devoid of everything else a child needs to live a happy, healthy life. Fortunately, this institution has now been closed and the children have all been re-homed in smaller institutions where they are receiving the care they need.  I had to write a song about it!  The guitar on this track is played by Anubis's ex guitarist Andy Hart who has worked wonders on arrangements for all 3 tracks! He always seems to know what I'm looking for!  This version is accoustic, but there will be a very heavy version of it on Anubis's forthcoming album 'Waking the Dead' (released in March 2010).
The third track is possibly a little quirky? Its called 'The Gift' and its simply about getting to know someone in a new relationship ... although lyrically, you may not think so, but read into it what you will! ...Another accoustic track! Nothing heavy from me with my solo stuff.. you'll have to turn to Anubis for that!
I'd like to thank Andy, Pete and Simon for all their hard work with arrangements, mixing, mastering etc... and of course flying V records! Very much appreciated guys!
Special thanks to Broxy who started the ball rolling on this little project! If it wasn't for the 'christmas' tune, I wouldn't have got myself into gear this year to work on solo material - and not to forget the fact that EKR will be playing it loads! So thanks muchly in advance for that! :)

‘Wish’ mini EP by Sarah Coburn (Isis of Anubis)....

‘Wish’....

Is a beautiful song for the festive season that was originally written some years ago and re-recorded recently due to requests from a close friend.  It begins with a beautiful acoustic guitar intro to be joined by Sarah’s smooth dulcet vocal tones. It is a song about losing someone close at this time of year, although somewhat reminiscent and melancholic but is heartfelt and caring. These are the two most important aspects of the season, and is put across so well in this acoustic format.....

Thanks not only go to Sarah but also to ‘Broxy’, the founder of European Klassic Radio for requesting the re-recording of this song.....

‘Abandoned’....

Is a new song which Sarah wrote after watching a documentary about the abandoned children in Mogilino, Bulgaria. The children in this institution were treated appallingly. It is another acoustic track with the guitar being provided by ex Anubis guitarist Andy Hart, who worked on the arrangements for all three tracks. Another truly   thoughtful and caring song, perfectly executed.....

‘The Gift’....

Follows the pattern and format of the first two songs but is a little more quirky in its execution. Another thoughtful and caring song but this time it is about getting to know somebody in a new relationship. All three of these songs capture the imagination in truly thought provoking and passionate way.....

A heavier version of ‘Abandoned’ will be on the new Anubis album called Waking The Dead, due to be released in March 2010. I cannot praise Sarah enough for the writing of all three of these songs and also the Anubis team comprising of Andy Hart, Pete Williamson and Simon Lees. I guess that Kevin Bartlett (Anubis Drummer) was on tea making duties!....

Already available for download on Amazon and due to be released on CD in December, 'Wish' is the first solo release by Sarah Co'burn, also known to many as ISIS of ANUBIS.

I was lucky enough to hear the original demos of these songs in September this year, though I'd not heard the finished tracks until last night when Pete the Jackal offered them to me for review on ANUBIS Fan Space,  Here then, is the first review anywhere of 'Wish' by ISIS.

Track 1: Wish (Co'burn / Taylor)

The song begins with the strummed acoustic guitar of Andy Hart (ex-Budgie and ANUBIS). In fact, all the tracks comprise of  Sarah's voice accompanied by Andy on guitar and keyboards. Sarah also plays keyboards. The song is a lament at the absence of a loved one at Christmas time. On first listening, one could be excused for thinking it was simply someone missing a loved one as they couldn't be with them that Christmas but no, this is a song of loss, something with which many people, sadly have to cope during the Christmas season. The song is adapted from 'Christmas Time' by Clare Taylor and was submitted by John Brocks of European Klassik Rock. It's a sad but charming song and there is hope of future Christmasses where the memories will be happier, once the emotions aren't so raw.

Some have compared Sarah's singing to that of Juliannne Regan and those who have been lucky enough to hear her singing 'Martha's Harbour' by All About Eve, would tend to agree. I found myself looking even further back to performers like Pentangle and Joni Mitchell. Not necessarily for the voice but for the 'feel' of the music.

'Wish' is a beautiful song, performed beautifully. Its stripped-down treatment works well. I hope that many people will listen to it and think fond thoughts of their own loved ones, as did I.

Track 2: Abandoned (Co'burn)

Two years ago, the BBC showed a documentary concerning the abandoned children of Mogilino, Bulgaria. The outraged reaction at the time resulted in many changes in their care and treatment though further work will always need to be done. Penned by Sarah, this song was written after she'd watched the documentary. Sarah sings this song of the plight of these children, again accompanied by Andy on guitar. With such a serious subject, one might expect a doleful dirge of a song but the tempo is lively, with some great guitar from Andy. I found myself thinking of the musical theatre approach of Lloyd Webber. You'll need to hear it for yourselves, of course but it absolutely works in getting its message across.

An unusual but effective treatment, after a few plays you'll find yourself singing 'Abandoned' to yourself and hopefully thinking of the plight of others.

There is another, much 'heavier' version of 'Abandoned'. When I heard them, my response to Pete was that I felt they both deserved to see the light of day. Well, they will. The other version of 'Abandoned' will appear on the new ANUBIS album.

Track 3: The Gift (Co'burn)

I love this track. I'm not sure I fully understand it but I do know that I love it! To quote Sarah,
"The third track is possibly a little quirky? Its called 'The Gift' and it's simply about getting to know someone in a new relationship... although lyrically, you may not think so, but read into it what you will!"

When I first heard this track, it was a rough demo, performed solely by Sarah on keyboards and even then, its haunting quality was obvious. I was excited to see how it would be arranged.

Andy's guitar is accompanied by keyboards and there are some eerie echoes on Sarah's voice. Quirky? Yes and also quite infectious. Another song I find myself singing. Yes it's about getting to know someone but I feel that there's also a warning or two in there... you may not like all you find or indeed, will you ever find out all there is to know?

So, that's 'Wish', three quite different songs from ISIS each with their own fascinating qualities. There isn't a weak track in this collection though I imagine people will all decide their own favourites. I'd like to stop there and sit on the fence but I suppose I should pick my personal favourite. 'Wish' makes me feel and remember a lost loved one, 'Abandoned' makes me think of those we should take more care of but 'The Gift' still haunts my mind long after the song has ended, so I choose 'The Gift'. It should also get an award for managing to include the word 'clairsentience' in its lyrics!

Hi Folks

Below is a review of Sibuna from a Norwegian Rock Mag.. First in English and then in Norwegian.

Thank you to Angelika Olsson for the Translation .. Angelika is one of our Swedish Fans..

ANUBIS - SIBUNA REVIEW...

Anubis is a relatively new band which only dates back to 2007, when a group of musicians got together to create a new and unique sound.

Indeed we've heard this many times before but in this case there is a certain originality with the Egytian name and other artefacts from the land at the end of the Nile.

The Bassist and the Vocalist is also father and daughter, or to put it in a different way the Jackal is the Father of Isis from Anubis of Wolverhampton.

The band have a lot of different things they blend into their musical mix, like metal, jazz, blues, folk music and Nu metal. The musicians are quiet experienced, and it is the experience that follows from a lot of other bands among others good old Budgie actually. A pretty colourful and good instrumental track is "the pharaoh" which has pretty tough riffs and a lovely deep bass, and a great drumwork as a rythmic basis.

Simon Lees shows what a great guitarist he is and he plays really melodic but also with dramatic solos. In "Us" that takes on the relationship between a mother and son Isis (Sarah Co'burn) shows off her voice full glory  in a beautiful song that she's written herself. More of the eastern theme is given to us in "Magic carpet" Harmonic riffs and a solo that bring vibes that remind you of Mr. Blackmore."Little picture" has vocals close to the storytelling tradition, small hints to eastern riffs, great voca lharmonies and a kind of Keltic colouring. An almost epic ballad is found under the title "Stalked by sadness". Both melody, power and fullness is well taken care of in this beautiful song wich is also equipped with really great guitarlines. Simon Lees vocals are also exquisite, and this a bit untypical Anubis song is the one we think is the best of the album.

One of the bands maybe least known sides is their humor that some of the lyrics are made up from, this makes it all more relaxed and contributes to a lovely charm. Production wise it's a bit uneven, especially the bass and the drums get a bit muddy soundwise. The music has one leg in Hardrock and metal territory, but is varying and sweeps within a lot  and is very melodic, often with a dreamlike vocal. A small touch of eastern tunes refreshens and simple spacy elements are also smart features. Sibuna is a varyed and fresh album wich absolutely would satisfy a lot of people who like rock with a certain originality, skilled musicians  and energy.

Rock Against Child Pornography Concert
Band of the week By D.J. Beerman

Rock
Against Child Pornography are an awareness campaign group, simply put,
they are the same as you or I only they are shouting out to make heard
the silenced and silent topic of child pornography. The risk to
children both in cyberspace and the real world from the evil of
paedophiles and paedophilia in whatever form or context it may arise.
Rock
Against Child Pornography are organising concerts, primarily within the
Rock genre, to combine live performance with the strong message that
any form of child abuse is not acceptable and that they demand changes
that favour the victims of such crimes and more resources to be made
available in the field of prevention. Through the medium of music, they
can reach out to the thousands who want to see reform for our children
in the modern world.
Each week I will be writing about one of the
bands who are bringing their music to the first Rock Against Child
Pornography Concert of 2009 at The Old Wharf Birmingham England on the
23rd May
This weeks band is.

Picture
yourself in Ancient Egypt, the sounds of street traders, the smell of
incense and spices, the dry heat, the mystical magic of a long past era
and add ROCK!!!!!!!!! This is what Anubis bring you.
Starting as a
project back in May 2007 with the astounding talents of Pete Williamson
(The Jackal), Sarah Co'Burn (Isis) and Simon Lees (The Pharoah) the
Anubian legend had begun. The debut album Sibuna was a global success
receiving huge reviews and it was plain the "project" was alot bigger
than anyone expected so in 2008 Kevin Bartlett (Osiris) joined the band
in preparation to take Anubis on a 2009 European festival tour and with
the release of the Avatar EP demand for live shows has hit fever pitch.
With Sarah working on a solo album release and a second full Anubis
album both to be launched later this year Anubian interest can only get
stronger.

Anubis
have a huge spectrum to their music taking the listener on a journey
into the unknown but with the proven sheer excellence and experience
these musicians posess it is no surprise to hear utter quality in every
track. With the added variation of both Simon and Sarah's vocal talents
they have the scope to develop each song to perfection and with
singular performances and duets  throughout the tracks there really is
a diversity that is unmissable, Simons guitars are a statement to show
how rock should be played, breathtaking genius!!! with solos that will
make you salivate along with great strong vocals, add to this the
massive bass experience Pete has, he and Kevin on drums are a perfect
combination while Sarah brings the keyboard side and her beautifully
haunting voice that will entrance and steal your heart.
Instrumentally
there is a feel of a well oiled machine with all components working
together in harmony, sometimes it feels they are telepathically
connected and the songs can flow silkily between full on classic rock
to a darker side of the genre with the vocal contrast providing a
complete emotional experiece when listening.

Now
Anubis are ready to take the world by storm so be prepared to be taken
to the land of the ancients and wallow in the majestic quality of a
band with years of performing at the top level under their belts, a
band where the members are legends in their own rights, a band that is
Anubis.
One thing is for certain Anubis will carry your Soul
across the Nile as written in the Prophecy and there you will hear
their music and be at rest!!!!!

Anubis will be
appearing at The Rock Against Child Pornography Concert at The Old
Wharf, Oxford Street, Digbeth Birmingham. on 23rd May 2009
