Our CD is now available in the "Local Music" section at Kiss The Sky record store. This is a privately owned music store, a dying breed these days. Even if you have our CD, if you find yourself in the very Far West suburbs, check out the store. It's amazing to find a music retailer that is staffed with people who know something about music! It's located in Geneva, IL which is a fun little town to visit too.

Hey all! Honeyglass is featured as the band of the week on NBC 5 street team, brought to you by Chicago's very own "The Local Tourist", Theresa Carter. She does an excellent job at hunting down the very best in Chicago entertainment and we're happy to be included in her favorites!

Some of you already know our song "The Titan" is about Blue October, specifically Justin's gripping stage performance. I thought I'd give a little more background on how those lyrics were born.

The lyrics...
The Titan

Hey Yah
He sings, his voice is like honey on shattered glass
he sings, the hammer swings we all fall down
and I see galaxies there in the depth of his stare
whispering "come in closer"
move in closer, the stars beckoning...

Chorus
come with me
where we'll dream beautifully
and the heavens will fall
and they'll all be dressed in white, tonight
to hear the titan roar

he moves, with delicate thought
in an aurora of hues
he moves in beautiful blues
we all fall down
and I'm lost in the eyes of a titan
there is magic there, in the depth of his stare
the spell enchanting

Chorus

and we all lay down, with the titan
and dream beautiful dreams
and the heavens lay down, upon the ground
hypnotized by the sound of hey yah

And now for the story...

On August 1st of 2000 our band, going by the name Rust, was booked to play The Elbo Room in Chicago and if memory serves me correctly, it was Rust's third show. Though we had already been booked for a couple of months, we received a call a few weeks before the show telling us we were getting bumped to make room for this band from Texas, Blue October. They were releasing their first major label album " Consent to Treatment" and apparently took priority over a local band who was just starting out. We had already been promoting our show and didn't want to give up the spot completely, so a friend who was handling our booking, convinced The Elbo Room that they should keep us on as an opening band. Blue October was not starting out on the right note so to speak.

When we arrived to play the show, we were informed that we would have to play with the sound board setting that Blue October had determained, which as any band will tell you, is mildly irritating. So I imagine we sulked a bit in the corner. Originally this was supposed to be our show! We played our set and then snuggled back into our dark corner, waiting to find out what was so special about Blue October...and we did. We found an amazing group of musicians with songs that were well crafted and intensely powerful. I was particularly struck by the singer, who seemed to command the stage so completely, that as soon as he opened his mouth, the audience ( including myself ) was hypnotised. We've been fans ever since.

The inspiration...

We have spent the last 7 years telling everyone we have ever met that Blue October was a band worth checking out. We've seen shows in Chicago and travelled to other states. I watched as the band pulled in more and more fans that were equally hypnotised by Justin's towering fearlessness on stage. Then, in 2006, I found out the band members birthdates. I have a on going interest in Astrology, not necessarily for my daily horoscope, but as a personality guideline. So I turned to my favorite book series, " The Secret Language of Birthdays" and looked up all the Blue October boys. I was struck by Justin's information. Each day in the book has a personality profile but the book also breaks down by weeks. Each week of the year has a tagline and Justin's week was " The Week of the Titan ". The image of Justin on stage as a god like figure was so perfectly tuned to the feeling I got at the shows, a song was born.

The references...

Some are obvious, some are personal, but " The Titan" makes reference to Blue October songs.

" Hey Yah "... Listen to the end of the song "The Answers", either version.

" I see galaxies there, in the depth of his stare, whispering "come in closer"... This one should be obvious to any Blue October fan. If it's not, you aren't listening to enough "History For Sale ".

"...and the heavens will fall." For me, Justin makes the sound of pulling heaven down. There's a line I wish I had written.

" He moves in beautiful BLUES..." What other color would he move in.

" And the heavens lay down, upon the ground, hypnotised in the sound of Hey Yah"

Cue choir of angels... The End
