Hello ladies and gentlemen...

Summer time is here again! The birds are out, the grass is riz, and we're out and about, doing our shiz... Our first Dr.Sketchy's was a fun night with Miss OnTop, but we're not stopping ('til we get enough!)

July is looking to be a warm month, and what better way to spend a warm summer evening than drawing/sketching/painting Australian-born Vancouver-based shimmy-shaker Shaboobie Booberarella! (http://www.myspace.com/shaboobieboobarella )! You might want to don some shades to draw this charasmatic chameleon!.

For those of you who still don't know what Dr.Sketchy's is, it's a cabaret life drawing class. For a measly $5, you can come and draw, paint, sketch local burlesque beauties, fun side show folks, and local cabaret musicians! On top of that there's fun drawing contests where you can win booze, prizes or booze as prizes!

Also, be sure to check out Dr.Sketchy's radio show, broadcast live from the Abandoned Sketchy-Lu Studios under Brooklyn....After much blood, sweat and alcoholic consumption, John Leavitt's made the first ever episode of Dr. Sketchy's Radio Free Radio! Thanks to Dusty Limits, Big John Bates, and Jon Lang for getting us this sweet-ass Scott McCloud interview. We should be doing these bi-weekly to monthly. Listen here at: http://www.drsketchy.com/radio.php

Hello ladies and gentlemen...

So we're back from Exotic World, the Sweet Soul gals and I, and we were lucky enough to meet Miss Molly Crabapple, founder of Dr.Sketchy's Anti-Art School in New York City. Finally, we're getting our Dr.Sketchy's going and off the ground Thursday June 28th at Dollhouse Studios!

We're looking forward to having a wicked night of drawing one of Vancouver's most well known sparkly burlesque cabaret divas, Miss Cherry OnTop (http://www.myspace.com/cherryontop)! That means the night will be hotter than hell with Sweet Soul's favorite topping.

First, I'd better back up and explain what Dr.Sketchy's Anti-Art School is...

Dr. Sketchy's is what happens when cabaret meets art school.
Dr. Sketchy's is the little Brooklyn event that became a movement. Founded in 2005 by artist Molly Crabapple, Dr. Sketchy's asked a simple question. Why can't drawing naked people be sexy?

Here's our attempt at an answer.

We combed New York to find the most beautiful burlesque dancers, the most bizarre circus freaks, and the most rippling hunks of man. Then, every other Saturday, we let you draw them for three hours. Interspersed with posing are ridiculous drawing contests (best left handed drawing? Best incorporation of a woodland animal?) where you can win booze or prizes.

We hauled the lights, sent out thousands of listings, and wheatpasted posters during snowstorms. We also insisted on our models making the highest wages in the city.

Dr. Sketchy's has received scads of media attention for it's combination of burlesque and art. We've been written up in The LA Times, the Washington Post, Time Out New York, Time Out London, The Village Voice, The Sunday Age in Melbourne, NY Press, Gothamist, Fleshbot, The National Post (Canada), Nikkei Trendy (Japan) and scores of alt.weeklies. Talking heads have talked about us on NBC, BBC, WPIX, NPR and The Hi Definition Network. We were chosen as "Best Wacky Life Drawing Session" by Shecky's 2007 Best of New York.

In the meantime, artists across the world wanted in on our three hours of decadence. Starting in Norfolk, Virginia, but soon spreading from Hollywood to London to Melbourne, Dr. Sketchy's began popping up across the globe. Now we're a 35-city strong art community, with new branches starting each week.
