this album is more like one long song than a collection of songs to me. it tells the story of someone who is trying to develop, taking you from one place to another.

pressure

in order to force himself to change, this person puts himself under pressure. the pressure to finish something on an impossible deadline, for example. something he does not think he can accomplish.

chaos

the inevitable result is chaos. nothing seems to work the way he wants it to. he loses control and gets scared, becomes paralyzed.

late
invisible

late at night he locks himself up and isolates himself. he realizes that he only feels strong when he is alone, because there is no-one around who could be stronger. he decides he needs to go out and meet people to heal himself.

dance

he meets girls at clubs.

rock

he tells them he's a rock star, and they ignore him.

love
sex

he falls in love with a girl, but does not realize it until he hurts and loses her.

this is a rather atypical recording for me. i went to a jam session last week, but unfortunately we weren’t able to play because the club was flooded with water. so i recorded a few jams on my own, and this is what turned into "elektrosmog".

another one of many snippets i've been working on -- basically just me jamming and building a few totally unspectacular chunks of ideas, so i can throw them around, tare them apart, destroy them, and put them back together again to form something new.

at least, that's the idea...

i'm just trying to break some rules here. i'm fully aware that, if anyone ever listens to this, they will think these little pieces of music suck. they sound bad, and they are not original. they do show how i feel about music, though:::

up until a few years ago, i tried to make my recordings sound as clear and perfect as possible. i always wanted to bring more interesting and (what some call) more "complicated" or complex music to a broader audience. so -- my approach was; write a pop song that sounds like a madonna track but with a 7/8 beat. or 5/4. or both. i tried to make less boring music more accessable.

that was fun and challenging (and inspiring) for some time, and i learned a lot, but i feel like i can't do this anymore. everytime i record a song;; before i'm halfway finished, i already hate it. i hate it for sounding like every other song on the radio, i hate it for having 1980s or 1990s sound, i hate it.

so i decided to leave the past behind, and forget about the rules and limits i set for myself. what i'm doing now is --- i record whatever comes to my mind. i don't try to make things sound the way i think it will make others think it sounds original or great or whatever. i simply capture my feelings and moods, and once i end up with a bunch of different snapshots of these moments, i will tare out pieces of them and make a collage of stuff ;; and then i will see what that whole thing will look like and sound like.

i'm really excited about this, and i will upload new bits and pieces every once in a while as a way of sharing the process. i'm hoping to end up with a new song every couple of weeks or months or so.

no bass. no chorus. no lyrics. why i haven't finished it so far: it sounds old! i need to make it sound new so i can continue to work on it. any ideas?

a bunch of ideas and loops thrown together. may or may not evolve into the first song for this project.

since i never seem to manage to take the time and finish an entire album the way i want to, i decided to take a new approach. from now on i will release each track immediately to download for free. depending on how much time i have it may take weeks or months per track.

the first track is just an intro. it is inspired by the flow of information. at first it sounds like a little stream, you can hear lots of details - every little splash and bubble.

the stream then becomes bigger, wider, and stronger. it sounds like your in the middle of water moving around you, until it is too much - it distorts to a point where you can't take it anymore. you can't make out any details way before that point, though.

it is then you realise you need to step back and not let the flow of information run you over, so you can keep your mind clear and appreciate what will be next: music (finally)
