Crazy Shit! Last Friday (the 27th) something big came out of nowhere.
In the afternoon I got a phone call from a journalist who wanted to
meet up with Darling Don’t Dance right away, to do an interview for the
Danish national TV channel DR1. The thing was that the whole country
had been going nuts for the last few months about this really popular
TV show called X-Factor. Friday the 27th was the show's big finale.
The journalist wanted to highlight the opposite of this mainstream,
staged TV show by showing the underground music scene, the scene that
families and people watching X-Factor might not necessarily know about.
He found Darling Don’t Dance on the Internet and thought that this art
punk/noise rock girl trio would be the perfect example.
Well suddenly, I was in a big hurry, since I agreed to meet up with the
journalist and cameraman within an hour! I called the girls and our
drum boy and luckily we’d already agreed to meet at our rehearsal space
exactly at this time to load the car and go to the venue - we were
supposed to play the same evening.
We spent a few hours in our rehearsal space playing songs while DR1
filmed and interviewed us. Afterward we rushed to the venue to load
in. Funny thing was, the TV guys also arrived at the venue in their
advanced LIVE-TV car, so they could spend the rest of the afternoon
editing the interview into one piece and filming our live show.
We drove home to get all dressed up but had no time to rest. We got
back to the venue and made a quick sound check (no biggie since we were
playing backline only). The room very quickly filled up with tons of
people and soon there were so much noise that the journalist could
barely hear the TV-people from the main office in Copenhagen in his
headphones. So we had to turn our backline WAAYY down, but it was cool
anyway. We waited for the journalist to give us the go-ahead and WAM
BAM we were on – playing live on national TV! We did a few songs and
then went off-stage – and off TV.
As scheduled we did our REAL show at 11.30pm – and that was a f***ing
amazing show! The first show with our new drummer by the way - it was
totally freakin’ amazing!
Can’t wait to play more shows with him.
By the way: Thanks to everyone who wrote us nice things after seeing us
on TV. Thanks to everyone who noticed our name a checked out our space.
Xoxo
