Current mood:  hungry
Hello all,

Colossus is proud to announce that we have found a vocalist and bassist! Our new line-up has been practicing for a few months now and we're getting ready to start playing live again. Woohoo!

August 28th will be the official return of Colossus to the world of playing shows- when we play at Heartland Church in Blue Springs with Your Memorial, Dead Set, and Solace and Stable. Two days prior on Wednesday August 26th we'll be playing a small house show at our drummer Josh's house as well (but it will probably be a crappy first show so you should just come to Heartland maybe).

Anyway, we'll be playing new material and we look forward to seeing your smiling faces at the show!
Later!

We are a Christian band.
Applicants must be of the Faith.
We are looking for someone who is capable of singing and scary vocals.

You should know that we are considering phasing-out death metal eventually, and moving more in the progressive direction, although this will not occur any time too soon.

Normal Vocalists we like are:

Peter Gabriel
Jon Anderson
Phil Collins
Mikael Åkerfeldt

You don't have to sound like these people, but we like them.

When it comes to scary vocals, we like more of the death metal sound, or something similar to the vocals on "Transparency", which can be heard on our myspace. We don't care too much for vocals that actually sound like screaming, or some loser-chump crying.

If you are interested, send a video or recording of yourself vocalizing in both styles to:

kingdomofrothgar@yahoo.com

Also, it would make it easier for us if you could send us a myspace message, notifying us of your submission.

We need a bassist.
Here are some of the requirements.
1. We are a christian band. Therefore it is very important that you be a christian.
2. You should be able to play the kinds of things that you hear on our myspace player, even though the only song we still play is Transparency. Many of the bass parts will be following the guitar, but there will also be alot of room to stand out.
3. Some of the bass players bass players that we enjoy are:
Chris Squire, Les Claypool, Jeff Berlin, Victor Wooten, and others.
We don't expect you to be any of these people but would like you to be familiar with some slap and tapping techniques. We should probably tell you that we are heading in a very progressive direction.
These are just a few things that stood out.
And by the way, you should probably live within or around the KCMO area.

So, If you have any idea who we are and actually visit our website at all, then you realize there are 5 new songs up on our myspace. But don't let that surprise you. These songs aren't actually new at all. In fact, if you've followed us at all, chances are you've heard most of them (or at least some of them).

So here's the history lesson.

Vegas lights- This was certainly our most average song, and probably our most loved song because of that fact. There's nothing special going on here.. just really average metal-core, which everyone seemed to love back in the day. With all that being said, this was the first song we ever wrote. In fact, this song was already completely written when I joined the band and one of the songs I tried out to. We recorded this track in Scott Cowan's basement, and yes wouldnt you know it, it's our first demo we ever recorded! We retired this song fairly quickly to the dismay of many. Colossus never played this song. Megatron sure did.

The sands of time (live). I believe this track was played while we were still megatron. We played a high school show out in either liberty or lee summit. I really don't remember, but I do remember that we all wore fake mustaches that show. This is the second song we ever wrote, and it's surprsingly good I think. Either way, You can perhaps start to hear a little bit more of the direction we were hoping to take on this track.

Another poopy unfinished demo-
This song was technically the first song we wrote with decent material. There are a lot of original ryffs in this one. In fact, when we first wrote this song, we all thought we were gonna be the hot stuff. It was as if no one had ever written technical trashy metalcore before. Either way, the song in it's current state had actually been revamped several times and this is what the final version ended up sounding like. It's decent, but I don't think we'd jump up and down about it today. (there's a reason we don't play it anymore). This song was recoreded in 07 before we had a giant member change up. We actually used a real studio

A poopy unfinished demo!- This song was also recorded in 07 in the same real studio i mentioned earlier. I'm not really sure what we were thinking when we wrote this. Actually I do. A lot of that death-core doomy metal stuff was becoming big around the time we wrote this (job for a cowboy anyone). I think this was our spin on things. I'm glad we didn't expand on these ideas. Either way, I don't think there's a single one of us who enjoy this in the slightest. Maybe that's why we forgot about it? We were probably trying to forget it. Either way, I believe we finished writing this song right along when Josh Hey joined our band.

Eruption! (with garden gnome and friends). In late spring of 2008, Blake Russell finally wrote a decent song on sound club. According to Paul Jackson, It's his best song. Either way, I'm not sure why I put this up here. Probably because Paul Jackson and Alva make a guest appearance at the end of the song (and the middle if you count the laughter). My friend Jon Rodick made an appearance to. Either way, this song was written when Blake (me) was going through a big meshuggah kick. Can you hear the resemblance?

Transparency demo- We recorded this at Alva's house. This is what we actually try to sound like. No this demo isn't a joke, but you might think it is. Either way, we hope you enjoy this one, and we also hope you enjoyed the history lesson!

Blake Russell.

For all of you who have been waiting, we have done it.  found the perfect sound.

it combines the hardcore sound of metal with the metallic sound of hardcore.

where will we go with this new music, this metalcore?

obviously there are no boundries upon the terrain we are exploring.

Current mood:  relieved

We keep coming back like boogers. When you thought you picked us out of your brain for the last time, we reappear with slimey snotty goodness. You just can't get rid of us. Boogers don't quit, and we don't either.

Chances are you've ruled us out for the count, and that's understandable. We've not been on the "scene" for over 8 months. Technically, we've never really been in the scene. Colossus is imfamous for only playing a few shows, and hyping them up so much that when you get there you're disappointed before it starts. Hey, atleast you'll remember us for something right?

But, that's all about to change! (pay no attention to the attention grabber/hype)

If you didn't know, we'll inform you. Colossus took a massive blow when three of our long standing members decided to part ways. Mark, Paul, and I still had a vision for the band, and approached it thusly. If the Lord wants us to quit we won't go anywhere, but if He wants us to keep going He'll send some new members our way. It appears He wants us to keep going.

We're happy to announce that the search is over. Alex Chapman on bass, and Josh Hall on drums now round out the band. We look forward to the future, and we are excited about future. You should be excited about the future and look forward to the future. Colossus will have a different sound and we believe these new members will help us achieve the greater goal that we've had in mind for the past year. You should expect a more organized and progressive sound with some of the great death metal you've heard in the past thrown in. A splash o'thrash and you just might get the general idea of what we're shooting for in the music world.

Colossus- Coming soon to a run down venue you've never heard of! Until then, check out some of our side projects in our top friends list. Make sure to stop by the colossus page for randomized updates. I look forward to seeing (all ten of you) soon.

we were coming home from an evening of fine dining when blake came up with the idea of three of us taking turns writing parts of a song on a midi program.

we were not allowed to listen to anything that anyone else had written.

we were to try and keep each segment around 15 seconds, although that didnt really happen.

some of it sounds like sonic 1 'n' 2 music.

We are indeed still looking for a drummer. If this fact wasn't obvious, then clearly you must not be a fan as we've not played a show for many months.

I'll be straight and to the point. This is what we're looking for. If you are a drummer or know of one- be sure to read this.

1. We are all serious about our faith. We believe Jesus Christ is God and King and wish to follow Him with all we do. Life is short, and Christ is the only one who gives life an eternal purpose. We want our drummer to share this faith, and have the same vision for this band. This is of first importance.

2. Skill. Skill is important. If you can't play drums (this means play well), it's probably not a good idea to contact us. If you want to know what our sound is like and where we are headed, please check out the following bands- Necrophagist, Dream Theatre, Yes, and Megadeth.

Most of our stuff is in the low to mid  200's (bpm). We play a lot of things in 7 and 5. We have a lot of progressive instrumental breaks. We like to play a lot of parts that have a groove to them, but...

WE DON'T DO BREAKDOWNS

There is no number 3.

Apply now!!!!!

Changes take place in bands- This is the nature of the beast. Members come and go and this band is no different. For those of you who actually still follow what goes on in our little world, you've definitely noticed we've not been active.

Recently, Josh Hey our bassist left the band. Shortly thereafter, Stu Bury and Kevin Showengert decided to part ways as well. The rest of us in Colossus have no hard feelings towards them and it's sad to part ways, but it's probably what was best for the band. We loved playing with them and I will miss playing alongside all of them.

It's time to get things rolling again. Colossus is currently looking for talented musicians (especially a drummer) who put the Lord Jesus Christ first. This isn't a joke. We don't believe Jesus is folk lore or a cheesy Hippie. We follow Him, and consider Him our God and Savior. Life is a myst- a short breath, so whatever we do we want to Honor Him and seek Him first and that goes for what the band does as well. We'd love to speak with you or someone you know who might fit this description, especially if they're interested in tech metal. We love what we do, and we want to bring light to a dark place all the while, representing the Lord with what talent we have.  If you don't know the Lord, then trying out for this band currently isn't an option. We don't want you to take offense, we just want everyone on the same page. If you'd like to know more about the relationship we share with the Lord and each other then hit us up sometime.

I'm personally very excited to see what happens with Colossus. I don't think we are done by any means. In the mean time, the few of us who are left are currently pursuing other musical avenues. Check out our side project- Kingdom of Rothgar. The band is in our top friends. Until Colossus gets up and rolling again, Kingdom of Rothgar may be putting on a few shows to get you guys ready for the mess of music that is Colossus.

Tell your friends to come to our site and check out the news. We need your help that keep this thing alive because we by no means want it to end.

Blake, with Colossus.
