The ROGUE is back and looking for YOU!
The Rogue Performance Festival is coming back for year number eight! We are presently soliciting applications from individuals and companies to perform in the 2009 Rogue Performance Festival, February 26 - March 7, 2009.
For 2009, the Rogue will once again flourish in Fresno's cultural and historic Tower District - with the addition of 1 new exciting component, the first annual Youth Rogue Annex Festival.
The ROGUE will receive applications for:
MAINSTAGE & CAFÉ VENUES between 9:00 am Wednesday, October 1st and 5:00 pm Friday October 31st.
A Rogue Mainstage venue can accommodate performances such as one-act plays, minor musicals, dance/movement, musical acts, cabaret, and magic shows.
A Rogue Café venue is perfect for the smaller act such as, solo-trio music, storytelling, and standup.
A Rogue Gallery venue is where artists are able to display their visual art, be it paint, photo or any other visual form.
The BYOV (Bring Your Own Venue) allows a company to find or create their own venue for their production. BYOV's may exceed the 60 minute time limit, run up to 10 performances during the Festival and provides the artist and performer with greater opportunities to introduce other disciplines such as film, video, installations, site specific work, etc.
Applications for the BYOV (Bring Your Own Venue) will be received by the Rogue between 9:00 am Wednesday, October 15th and 5:00 pm Friday, November 14th.
Applications and more information may be obtained at our website www.roguefestival.com. Any application received before or after the published dates will NOT be accepted. Remember, full entry performers get 100 percent of the show's box-office receipts.
The first Rogue Performance Festival took place in 2002 and produced a six-day theater, music and performance festival that brought together 17 different performing groups and presented 50 performances to over 1,200 audience members. In 2003 the Festival was moved from the Sanctuary Stage Theater to the Tower District and offered a 5 day festival that presented over 25 acts (including 2 national companies) with over 60 performances and doubled the audience attendance. The 2003 Rogue Performance Festival also received a Proclamation from the City of Fresno and was chosen as The Greatest Event On Earth by Festivals.com. Since then the festival has continued to grow in performances and audience. The 2008 Rogue Performance Festival saw 12,000 audience members and boasted over 250 performances from almost 100 acts.
Although initially modeled after the Fringe Festivals which have become popular worldwide, the Rogue is continually evolving into a uniquely dynamic Fresno Arts Event. This non-juried festival offers performers and companies a low cost, high profile opportunity to showcase new and established works to an audience. We are working together to make Fresno a city of the arts, a city we can all be proud of. Join us and make a difference for the arts in Fresno.

SOME ROGUE FAQ's
Q: What is the Rogue?
A: The Rogue is a non-juried arts festival that celebrates the independent performer and artist. This annual celebration is made up of theatre, music, dance, film, performance art, puppetry, spoken word, storytelling, visual arts and more. O. K. It sounds like a Fringe Festival...but with a 21st century sensibility.
Q:Non-juried? What is that?
A: The Rogue is committed to an artist's right to produce work without the judgement of a jury process and without fear of censure.
Q: That sounds serious... like something out of an official "policies" manual... what is the real story here?
A: You are right! So, here is the nitty gritty. Unlike the garden variety "arts festival" the Rogue does not believe that a group of so-called experts should decide what is good...or what an audience should see. We believe that a performer has the right to present his or her work and that a paying audience is fully capable of deciding for themselves if they like it or not. Oh yeah, and we give them the chance to review the show!
Q: How do I get my show into the Rogue?
A: APPLY! The Rogue Festival is non-juried and non-curated, as long as you apply on time and pay your application fee, chances are good you will get a show in. We accept applications on a first come, first served basis...and if you don't get in, there's always the BYOV option.
Q: You keep harping on this "non-juried" concept...are there awards given out at the Rogue Performance Festival?
A: Yes, during ONE BIG ROGUE PARTY held on closing night we do give out awards. They draw attention to quirky things that occurred during the festival. Last year we had awards such as the Rogue SOLD OUT Award, the Rogue GODFATHER Award, the Rogue MILE HIGH Award, the Rogue BEST USAGE OF A DILDO Award, the Rogue BALLS OUT Award... and many more.
Q: Is my show a good Rogue show?
A: Well, if you think it's something your friends would pay to see, and not be mad at you for telling them to come, then you've got a hit on your hands. There's only one way to find out if it's a good show, and that's to do it. Remember, the Rogue accepts applications on a first come, first accepted process. No one auditions, no one decided. The only constraints on material or content are the consideration of the health and safety of all those involved, including staff, artists, volunteers and audiences.
