The Last House on the Left (R for violence, nudity, rape, disturbing images, profanity and drug use) Remake of the 1972 revenge flick about two young women (Melanie Lyskey and Sara Paxton) kidnapped and assaulted by a gang of escaped convicts who find the tables turned when they attempt to take refuge in the home of the parents (Monica Potter and Tony Goldwyn) of one of their victims.
Miss March (R for nudity, sexuality, drug use, pervasive profanity, and crude humor) Raunchy teensploit about a high school senior (Zach Cregger) who lands in a coma after falling down a flight of stairs only to regain consciousness four years later and learn that his once-innocent high-school sweetheart (Raquel Aalessi) has become a Playboy centerfold in the interim. Cast includes Trevor Moore, Molly Stanton and gangsta' rapper 40 Glocc.
Race to Witch Mountain (PG for action, violence, mature themes and frightening situations) Sci-fi adventure, based on the Alexander Key children's best seller, about a cabdriver (Dwayne Johnson) who goes on the ride of a lifetime after picking up a couple of runaway teens (AnnaSophia Robb and Alexander Ludwig) with paranormal powers. Cast includes Carla Gugino, Ciaran Hinds and Garry Marshall.
INDEPENDENT & FOREIGN FILMS
Brothers at War (R for profanity and a gruesome image) Occupation documentary directed by Jake Rademacher who enjoyed unusual access behind the Camouflage Curtain embedded with his two siblings serving as secret reconnaissance troops in Iraq.
The Cake Eaters (Unrated) Dysfunctional family dramedy revolving around a Prodigal Son (Jayce Bartok) whose return home for his mother's funeral provides the spark which forces a host of skeletons out of the closet. With Melissa Leo, Kristen Stewart, Bruce Dern, Elizabeth Ashley, Aaron Stanford and Thomas Cavanagh.
Carmen and Geoffrey (Unrated) Intimate bio-pic recounts the illustrious careers of a most-accomplished couple: dynamic dancer-turned-Yale professor Carmen de Lavallade, and her equally-creative husband, Trinidad-born actor/director/choreographer/painter/costume designer Geoffrey Holder, who is perhaps still best known as the deep-voiced pitchman in the Un-Cola commercials from the Seventies and Eighties.
The Perfect Sleep (Unrated) Anton Pardoe wrote and stars in this neo-noir mystery about a man with no name who returns to his hometown for the frsttime in ten years to protect the elusive femme fatale (Roselyn Sanchez) he's always loved from afar.
Severed Ways (Unrated) Epic adventure, set in 1007 AD, chronicles the struggle to survive of two Norsemen (Tony Stone and Fiore Tedesco) stranded on the coast of North America after being separated from their expedition ambushed by Indians. (In Greenlandic with subtitles)
Sunshine Cleaning (R for profanity, sexuality, disturbing images, and drug use)
Offbeat comedy about a single-mom (Amy Adams) who gets more than she bargained for after starting a crime scene cleaning business with her slacker sister (Emily Blunt) in order to be able to send her son (Jason Spevack) to private school. Cast includes Alan Arkin, Steve Zahn and Paul Dooley.
Tokyo Sonata (PG-13 for mature themes and brief profanity) Bittersweet drama about the gradual disintegration of a Japanese family in the wake of its stoic patriarch's (Teruyuki Kagawa) being shamed by the loss of his job. (In Japanese with subtitles)
