On OddGrooves song 44/16(written by Per) the timesignature is 44/16 on the verse-groove and I've been asked by many 'how the heck do you count'..  So I'm gonna tell how I look at it:

You could actually argue that it shiftes between 27/16 and 17/16 but we decided to put them together and call it 44/16. (I think the musical phrase is working thru the two signatures so I would call it 44/16..)

To me it works the best to divide it like 27/16-17/16 in my brain (duh)but to think quarternotes: 1&2&3&4&1&2& then 16th's 123.. There you have the 27/16 section! Then back to quarternotes 1&2&3& then 16th's 12345.. and there is 17/16.. And together, yes, you have 44/16! Got it :-)

When you played it a lot you start to feel it but it takes time, not as fast as when you play something in 7, 9 or 11 this is a bit more tricky.. :-)

So this is how it works the best for me.. We all have our own ways on how to make things work for us..

Check out the song here:

Cheers!

The Black Page – My tribute to Frank Zappa....

 ....

The fourth of December it’s 16 years since Frank Zappa passed away and this is my tribute to the greatest composer ever, according to me. I remember discovering him in the mid 80’s when I was about 13-14 years old. I was listening to the radio in my room when they suddenly and unexpected played Tinseltown Rebellion. I was so fascinated by the music I couldn’t  leave the room. I had not heard anything like it before.. I played drums back then(as of today) but I was into AC/DC, Saxon, Iron Maiden and that sort of music(no offense I still love that music too) but this was something completly different! ....

 ....

After that I had to find more music from him and to my great pleasure there was a lot to discover J  ....

 ....

So, on my player you can hear me play my version of The Black Page (the drumsolo). This solo was written by Frank Zappa in the mid seventies for his drummer at that time Terry Bozzio. He learned it in a couple of weeks what I heard, but I didn’t! Nope, longer, much longer.. I think I have it together now but maybe there’s a misshit here and there......

 ....

I’m really happy that you still can hear Frank Zappas music live, and of course I’m reffering to Zappa Plays Zappa! If you haven’t check them out you defenetly should! I saw them this spring in Stockholm and it was FANTASTIC! One of the best shows I ever been to! So check them out!! Dweezil really rocks and brings his fathers difficult music to a level I couldn’t believe! And it looked so easy to play these complex arrangements and belive me I know it’s not......

 ....

I hope the Zappa family doesn’t mind me putting this piece on my player.. I have no intention to make any money on this or so, just want people to here it, breath it and bring his music to new generations. In my job as a drum/musicteacher/musician I often talk about him and his music and hopefully I can make many youngsters interested in his music.....

 ....

 ....

With respect,....

The line up is Per Ulfhielm on Guitar, Claes Andberg on Bass and Me myself and I on drums and our special guest is Mr Lap 'Mac' Top on Backings and Keys.

The first gig is at Engelen/Kolingen november 9th together with the band Reform and the other one is at Stockholm Fusion Club at Stampen dec 13 with Tee Bee and the Pingus.
