How do? Merry Men have decided to celebrate the release of their E.P ’The Power’ by filming this little four and a half minute masterpiece.

Using photos and footage from our many gigs, it gives a good insight into how we waste our time and if you look closely, you might even see yourself.

Enjoy!

Hello

Recently, MTV contacted us, asking if they could film our band whilst we did a gig. Of course, being very busy people we had to say no but they insisted. We eventually agreed, on the condition that they stopped all the women, drugs and beer coming our way for 1 night. We needed a break, you see.

On the night of some time in the past month, two lovely bearded guys came to film us doing a dirty rehearsal. We couldn't do a gig because we were too sleepy. They were very nice people and did that funny MTV thing where they move the camera very fast in and out and up and down while talking to you. they stayed for about 2 hours and we ran through a set. They chose to put our tune 'Michael Motorcycle' onto the tele.

We were very lucky because it was played just days after on TMF, a channel available to all on freeview and aimed at the mentally challenged. Our song was played in between a band caled McFly and some modern R&B pappage and was on at just before 5pm.

Since then, we have been repeated non stop on TMF and were even featured on the 'Zane Lowe Show' a comedy half hour programme on MTV aimed at the mentally challenged. He said we were 'Terrible' and leter adimtted that everything he says on his show is 'a bit of a laugh'. We like Zane Lowe. He's foreign and beardy, just like the messiah.

Anyways, if you'd like to see us on TV , click this sexy link, SEXY LINK
to be directed to the online version.

Due to the success of the snippet, we have also been asked to appear on that Saturday morning kids show with Gilbert the Alien and talk has even been heard about us appearing on Noel's House Party. Fingers crossed!

Enjoy and please remeber, don't have nightmares!

This was a strange one. The Attic seems to be as popular venue, with loads of bands gigging there. You get a nice stage to play on and a sound man who knows what he's doing. I'll warn you though, the venue is up two flights of stairs...nobody warned us about this....maybe the name of the venue gave it away though?!

Let's cut to the important stuff though. There is no lock on the toilet door and drinks are bloody expensive. £2.20 for a pint of bitter! Bloody hell. Although you do get bog roll. That's a bonus. Expect an expensive night though, if you want to get trollied.

The night was a North West Bands Christmas party.  Northwestbands is an excellent website run by a nice guy called Phil. Search for it. You might like it. We've played for him before and we've had a right good do, so we love to help him out whenever we can.

Two other bands were supposed to play, but only one turned up. It didn't make much difference though as, with it being near Christmas, all the cool kids stayed away, as I expect they are saving their pennies for presents and such. Unfortunately, this meant that all the scummiest, Rock n Roll hating, dance loving, coke snorting, fight starting scummy cunts of Accrington came out instead. You see, it appears that The Attic is either above or somehow joined onto some trendy, dancey twok bar. It was like Walkabout all over again.

These type of people don't want to hear live music. They want the Dance Euphoria Coke Snort Pill Poppin' Fighty Fight 2006 cd played LOUD and ON REPEAT. So Front Page Story and us went down like a sack of shit. Which was a shame. The atmosphere was awful, the twokkers just wanted violence and the women were huge and scantily clad, which has put us off our Christmas Turkey this year...

Anyhow, us being merry, we still did a blinder and tore The Attic a new hole. The tiny amout of rock lovers who were there perservered past the twokkers and enjoyed the music, which made our night. Bless 'em. Some kind lady even approached us for a CD instead of us having to force it down her throat which is always a relief. People always seem to get so angry, offended and ignorant when we offer them a chance to buy a CD, so you can probably guess what the crowd thought tonight when they recieved this offer!

Have you played The Attic? Or just been there? Did you like it? Or is it always a Twok fest? Please do let us know.

This were a reyt shame. It was every bit as good as it was disappointing.

We were lucky enough to bag a gig with 'Green Room' and a newish-ish band called 'The Virgin Marys'. The Adelphi is a weird venue. Downstairs is a typical town-centre-fighting-WkD-drinking-Burberry-wanking-twokfest. It is quite horrible really but upstairs is very different. It's all laid back, relaxed and friendly. You get a good sound man, a stage and slightly pricey drinks. Oh, and the toilet didn't have a flush on it. That got a bit scary later on in the night...

Merry Men are lucky enough to be treated like Motley Crue in parts of Preston. We have a huge group of beautiful boys and girls who talk to us like adults, buy us food and drinks and pay us to play. We are happy about that.

I don't think we were well placed on the bill tonight though. Apart from the people who have already heard us and like us, everyone else in the crowd just seemed like beardy, pretentious student types. We went down like a brickfull of shit. All our songs were met with a cough, splutter and a small clap and there were so many grumpy faces to be seen! Bloody hell, lighten up! It seemed like we played a good one, apart from a few glitches, but that's Merry Men, innit? We were inspired by the fans we had though and it hasn't put us off.

For the open minded though, it was an excellent night. Green Room have lovely, chilled out style that's well worth a listen. The debuted a full band tonight and it sounded very good. Most of the crowd were there to see them though, so within minutes of them finishing, the room got a  little bit more empty.

After us came the Virgin Marys, who were slightly arsey or maybe just drunk but the music was good. All their songs sounded like something else, and you'd sit there going,'What's this one? I recognise it' but then you'd realise it was one of theirs. They rocked hard and long and had the few people remaining dancing about and smiling. They are also gorgeous and have a style about them what'd make the ladies swoon. The drummer seemed to batter the kit very well.

So check out Apples and Pears whenever you can. It's always different and well worth £3. Some of that even came to us! We got paid! Wahey.

The Sanctuary Rock Bar is always a good place to play. You get a nice friendly atmosphere, toilet roll in the bogs, cheap drinks, bottled bitters and lovely, good looking staff and DJs
-> ->  ->.. see?

Anyhow, tonight was their one year birthday and we were grateful to be asked to play.

The night started off well, with the venue being packed full at about 9pm. Three bands were on in total with the first starting just after that time. Now this is where it stumbled....For the first half an hour everything was fine and dandy but then the next half an hour and the extra ten minutes really lost momentum.

Playing over an hour of non stop covers, despite being technically excellent, just doesn't work at a gig night. It might work at a Wedding, a Function or a Bar Mitzvah but not tonight. The crowd were getting restless, ears and legs were getting tired and people who came to see all the bands soon had enough and slowly filtered away, whether to another floor or venue. Then taking ages to pack all their gear way, not letting the other bands borrow the kit and buggering off just left a bad taste in the mouth. A nice, compact set would've started of fthe evening well, not a full on headlining Wembley length set.

By' time See If It Flies came on, the venue was still pumping but the loss of momentum had slightly marred the night. Luckily, you can always rely on SIIF to boogie down their unique brand of German Electro Pop to the max. They played a good 'un and kept everyone happy. They have a CD out now aswell. Ask them for one.

We eventually went on at about 12.30, which is well rock n' roll. Our set was a bit tricky at first, with some annoying feedback coming from the P.A. and throwing us off guard, but luckily we had DJ Shanx to sort that out.... The crowd were loyal and friendly, drunk to just the just right amount and seemed to have a good time and we sold an amazing 40 copies of 'The Power', which was nice.

Cheers

Let's all remember Kath Smethurst, the wonderful lady who ran The Castle.

We always love it there, and insist that you do too. Tonight was every bit as good as usual, and a little bit more, because a different band than normal played , which made a nice change.

We were lucky enough to have a few of our new songs recorded and would like you to check them out. That one up there is called 'The Game' and we are now getting loads more on our videos page, it's like our own Blockbuster.

As you'll see, it was ram jam packed full, the beer was flowing and we sounded right good. The crowd, as usual, were pumping away and trying their most not to buy another one of our C.Ds. Even the other bands did well. The Castle rocks!

This is an excellent venue. Everything seems right, even the wrong stuff.

It's easy enough to find, despite all the stupid one way systems Town centres like to adopt and their aren't loads of stairs to carry our gear over, although we did have a nicely preened bunch of helper monkeys carrying the kit for us.

Once you get inside, the place looks the part. It has a huge stage to play on, which is a treat, a backstage area for the band and their groupies that features a 'vandalise me' wall, free beer in the form of Carlsberg (better than nothing), and you get filmed for DVD, which they might send us at a later date, although I wasn't listening when they told us what would happen. Good stuff. They even sold bottles of beer and drinks were 1.50! Bargain. The toilets were horrible though. They had no locks or seats and we felt very worried that we would get walked in on during our pre gig group poo. Things went well and we managed to squeeze it all out, but the Queen doesn't have to hover over a seat, so why should Fat G?

We played with two other bands, who were both so very young and talented. One called Shot Gun Romeo and another called Aspirin. You can probably find them at;
Aspirin
Shotgun Romeo. I expect they'll both be huge one day. One of them even has a girl member! Fancy that.

They were both very good, but the venue is just so loud that it was hard to fully enjoy the music. The sound guy Dave was very good at what he does though, and some people like it loud don't they? We ended up having to take a break and sit somewhere near the back of the pub, just to rest our bleeding ears. The advantage of this is that the bands get filmed, so you can watch them on the tele as well. It's like being famous, it is.

We played a loud set aswell, and we rocked for a change. We only played one 40 minute song, which was a modernist interpretation of 'Words' by F.R Davids. It went down very well, despite Fat G's 20 minute body bop solo straying off the path. He sellotaped it to his head and everything.

The crowd were not as interactive with us as they were with the first bands, but we are not as gorgeous as they are. They had their own little mosh pits, streakers and drug parties going on. We try to get them but they never catch on. Drop us a line if you want to streak at any of our gigs.

Bradford has a lot of cool places to play, or so it seems anyway. I know The Love Apple was expensive, Rios is soulless, The Market Tavern was depressing and down loads of stairs and where else is there? This is definitely our favourite so far and we'd love to go back.

Worthstock was a top do. It was well organised, set out well and well well well.

We played on the Sunday, but were lucky enough to stay on the Saturday aswell. The campsite was excellent, but Jonatron will tell you more about that.

We saw a lot of good bands, and quite a lot of screamy, shouty 'emo' lite bands, but that's the trend nowadays innit? A few bands stood out, but I'n not going to tell you which.

We played two sets altogether, for some mixed up reason. Our first was stinking. We were poor. We struggled to stay together, couldn't play our instruments and sounded terrible. Luckily, we were cut short after 16 minutes, which was a blessing in disguise, although we were just starting to warm up and sound good. We only had 1 song left and we heard a heavenly voice say, 'That was your last song' so we went back to sitting down and enjoying it.

The organisers, being the kindly sort they were, could see that our short set was causing unrest in the crowd, and to avoid riots, shoved us back on for another 15 minutes, which we enjoyed. We played a lot better this time and were happy that we got to do our festival only version of 'Bubba Chicken', which went down a reyt treat.

We managed to sell an amazing 40 cds after this, althought there were a certain group of FAT metal style women who passionately did NOT want our cd, which they expressed through FAT metal grunts and a blatant disregard for manners. FAT metal women are horrible creations anyway. I hate them more than I do EMOs...I think. The EMOs were actually very nice to us this weekend. They ran around in their little sheeplike possies, with their festival tinged mascara and complimented us often. Bless 'em.

Other than us and the good bands, the whole Worthstock feel was lovely. Everyone was happy, friendly and hungover and we'd recommend it to anyone who wants to play next year. Keep an eye out for it again, we hope it does resurface and that we can play again! Oh Yeah!

http://www.worthstock.co.uk is probably the website.
