Putting their own stamp on the NYC jazz scene, Nublu will host a superb array of celebrated veterans as well as rising stars and favorites who are part of the Nublu pantheon of rotating musicians.
Ask Nublu owner/curator and musician Ilhan Ersahin why he created a jazz festival, and he jovially comments, "Nublu is a continuation of the jazz culture, it has the spirit of jazz with a sound that is relevant today, and we'refilling in a gap that we think is missing." • Juini Booth, a bass legend who is currently the bassman of Sun Ra Arkestra and in throughout his career and played with the likes of McCoy Tyner, Art Blakey, Steve Grossman and the Tony Williams Lifetime Band.

• East Village jazz masters Charles Gayle and Jameel Moondoc, who will be making their Nublu debut at the festival.

"Certa Manha Acordei de Sonhos Intranquilos"

With an album title inspired by the Franz Kafka classic ''The Metamorphosis,'' Otto's new album follows suit, mingling rhythms, textures, words and emotions on an album rich in orchestrations and new sonic creations. ''This album is more independent and more mature. It comes from a concrete change that happened inside me. This album is a tale I found in my soul,'' says Otto.

Backed by a stellar band, including co-producer Pupillo on drums, Dengue on bass and Catatau on guitar, Otto seamlessly blends an intoxicating mix of tropicalia, samba, folk, rock, reggae and pop, all layered with rich story lines of deep emotions and reflections. ''It's like it is my first album,'' says Otto.

The album also features special guest vocalists, Grammy winner Julieta Venegas and CéU.

The CD digipak includes a 12-panel insert with photographs of an art installation created for this album by Tunga, a world renowned conceptual artist.

Hey friends,

We're very happy to announce the album release by innovative Brazilian singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist and producer Otto.
He is one of the most compelling figures of the new generation of young musicians exciting fans in Brazil. Otto continues to charter new musical territory with his captivating new album “Certa manha acordei de sonhos intranquilos,” to be released worldwide Sept. 1 on Nublu Records.  With an album title inspired by  the Franz Kafka classic "The Metamorphosis," Otto's new album follows suit,  mingling  rhythms, textures, words and emotions on an album rich in lush orchestrations and new sonic creations.
 ....
 ....
Hailing from the northeastern Brazilian state of Pernambuco, and of Dutch and Brazilian descent, Otto was exposed to a myriad of traditional musical rhythms such as maracatu, cocociranda and and his work as a producer, and later as a musician, has fused those traditional styles with modern Brazilian flavors such as samba and bossa nova, and more global music genres such as electronica, hip hop, pop, rock and soul. On CERTA, Otto seamlessly takes the listener through his sonic stories-poetry set against folksy rhythms of a small village one moment, and back to the big urban jungle with contemporary beats the next.
 ....
 ....
Otto’s career path is already remarkable-he has been an influential member of the Brazilian musical movement called Manguebeat, widely considered to be one of the most important musical movements to emerge in Brazil since the days of Tropicalia, as one of the original members of groundbreaking bands Mundo Livre and Chico Science, where his rhythm section duties made a huge impact-and as a forward-thinking producer.  Brazilian MTV further cemented this young artist’s rise with a highly-acclaimed ACUSTICO series special with Otto (2005).
 ....
 ....
With three critically acclaimed albums already under his belt,  'Samba Pra Burro,' (1998) 'Condom Black,‘ (2001) and ‘Sem Gravidade’ (2004), CERTA showcases Otto’s continuous maturity as a superb and thoughtful songwriter.  Otto co-produced the album with fellow drummer Pupillo,  and is joined on the album by a stellar group of musicians such as Pupillo, Dengue on bass and Catatau on guitar,  plus special guests vocalists, Grammy winner Julieta Venegas and young Brazilian star CeU.
 ....
 ....
Otto also dazzled fans and critics at the December 2008  Red, Hot & Rio shows at Brooklyn Academy of Music, alongside Jose Gonzalez, Bebel Gilberto and CeU.  Otto, who has already impressed fans in the NY area with shows at Central park Summerstage, Joe’s Pub and BAM’S Next Wave Festival, will return this summer for two US dates: Aug. 17 at Chicago’s Millennium Park and August 21 as the Lincoln Center Out-of-Doors concert series.

Time Out New York

KICKING ASS IN SLOW MOTION
Paper Magazine

In 2002, Ilhan Ersahin opened the doors of NUBLU, a East Village club in Manhattan. East Village has been the center for music and arts since the 50's and the aim of Nublu is to continue that tradition. Bands like KUDU, WAX POETIC, BRAZILIAN GIRLS, FORRO IN THE DARK, LOVE TRIO and NUBLU ORCHESTRA conducted by Butch Morris have not only played and continue to play at Nublu, but they were all born at Nublu. The sound that evolves within the walls of the club can only be labeled as the NUBLU SOUND. Being the epicenter of diverse musical elements with influences from all the corners of the world, this is their blend.

Publications such as the NEW YORK TIMES and PAPER MAGAZINE from New York, TRIP and FOLHA DE SAO PAULO from Brazil,
HURRIYET from Turkey, VOGUE from Taiwan, and TELERAMA from Paris have already seen the light that's coming from this little place in Manhattan's East Village.

I led 3 lives (bigger size)

I Led 3 Lives - Peace Now

I LED 3 LIVES is the ultimate meeting of the musical minds. A band of NYC all-stars, the trio features ILHAN ERSAHIN ..boards, sounds, and saxophone; JUINI BOOTH on acoustic and electric bass; and JOCHEN RUECKERT on drums, programming, and electronics.
Each member of the group has a distinct flair and style all his own—but when their three lives, backgrounds, and experiences come together, the result is electric!

A meeting at NUBLU, the East Village output, spawned the group three years ago and they have been playing there regularly since. Like the infamous club that brought them together, their sound is quintessentially New York: it's underground, jazzy, and dancey all at once.

The group's collective pasts and other projects are as diverse as their sound. In 1972, JUINI BOOTH played in Olympia, Paris, with Tony Williams' Lifetime band. Since then, he's shared the stage with MCCOY TYNER, STEVE GROSSMAN, and JOE HENDERSON, and currently performs with the SUN RA BAND. JOCHEN RUECKERT is one of the most sought after drummers in the NYC jazz scene,
playing regularly with KURT ROSENWINKLE, MARK TURNER, and CHRIS POTTER. Jochen, who's from Germany has also another side to him: he brings the nation's compelling minimalist electronic sounds to the trio. ILHAN ERSAHIN embodies those worlds as well, but being part Swedish and part Turkish has given him a world of experiences and backgrounds from which to draw his inspiration. His projects include more song-oriented band, WAX POETIC and LOVE TRIO with reggae/dub legend U-ROY, but he also shares the stage with the phenomenal Turkish gypsy clarinetist HUSNU SENLENDERECI.

I LED 3 LIVES is on a lifelong mission—making beautiful and interesting music that will take the listener beyond the norm and elevate us onto plateaus that are yet undiscovered. Check them out now and prepare to be uplifted!

LOVE TRIO feat U-ROY

Hearing a compilation containing a track by U-Roy, the legendary Jamaican dub master in Sweden when he was 13 years old, Ilhan Ersahin, in what was one of his first record purchases was transformed by his experience, realizing in that moment that music would be his calling. With the accusation of a tenor saxophone and a latter ticket to gotham, his fate was sealed. A nine year apprenticeship at downtown Gotham's then--famous Sweet Basil led to association with outstanding denizens of the jazz world and weekly workshops with the like--minded. These nine years were to culminate in a shift to the Lower East Side and Nublu. The genie was now out of the bottle. From this long gestation, Love Trio was born. Among those making the trek east with Ersahin were bassist Jesse Murphy, a young California native who would become bassist with Brazilian Girls, and drummer Kenny Wollesen of Tom Waits renown. The music the trio would make would seek to defy genre. It would be, as Ersahin would insist - just music - his music: &34;It's the city - its also where we live. I live here, and on the road, and there is the night life mixed with studio life; in a way also DJ life gotten to our compositions because every where we play there always electronics and DJs. In the culture now, it is really a part of everything. I am just trying to live in the moment, in what is now.&34; Borrowing from the dub and rock steady beats of his earliest influences in programming the various keyboards and electronica added to his oeuvre as well as the jazz legacy of his apprenticeship and the sonorities of his ancestral Turkey, the result of the varying styles as an approach to the music the trio would make has been broadening of the possibilities of his composition and trio's improvisation. Working often with guest artists among whom have been the aforementioned U-Roy, trumpet legend Eddie Henderson, vocalist Marla Turner and DJ Logic as on their seminal, eponymous recording, Love Trio, the music arrived at suggest a hypnotic journey through a spare yet muscular landscape that might best be described as a quest in a minor mode - the ethereal quest for the fabled Nublu. A land far away from Tin Pan Alley.
