President Bush, the current one...a "Republican," did one of the best things he could have done all throughout his presidency (Democrats, Republicans, and "Real Republicans" (Libertarians like me can all agree on this)....he executed someone. Mr President, I applaud you! A private from the United States Army who wore my countries uniform, committed most heinous acts, he murdered three people, raped four women back in the 80's. He has been on death row in Levinworth since 1988.

No person that defends my freedom, or keeps the peace when necessary at home, should be free to roam the face of the earth, or even be able to breathe the same air I breathe when they defile it. He was given a military tribunal and found guilty of heinous and barbaric acts. According to the Military Code of Criminal Justice, nobody can be put to death unless upon signature of the Commander in Chief....President Bush.

Thank you Mr. President, God bless you!

Imprinted on our money here in the wonderful States, we have an motto, "E pluribus unum" which when translated tells us "Out of many, one." This echoes in my head on this cloudy Election Day when we are to be mindful of our rights as an American citizen. This month also marks Thanksgiving, combine the two and we should be thankful and mindful of who we are as a people.

Being a realist for a minute though, I know that my one vote cannot possibly sway any decision, but it's our voices, the collaborative whole that have such a wonderful opportunity. Ok, we'll put aside the electoral college as well....for now. The ability to get into a car, drive to a polling station, cast a vote to change the government we live under is a pretty amazing thing. Sure some of us have to battle soccer moms picking up their brats from school and what not (my polling station is at a school, how nice). In the end though, we have it pretty darn good. A few miles away in Iraq people turned out to the polls but in fear of being blown up or shot. Sure, we have our problems as Americans, and I don't like Democrats, and some of you don't like Republicans, but we all don't like the communists....as far as the guy that was running to legalize marijuana, well, I'm on the fence about him.

The ability to live in a free society, though controlled by laws that are both necessary and proper is a great privilege. This is the reason why your voting rights are taken away from you if you fail to vote in several different circumstances. So get out there tonight, they close late!

Tomorrow, millions of Americans will celebrate Independence Day, we weren't truly independent the minute we signed the document, but we fought and worked hard for it. We honor the sacrifice of the lives lost not only in the Revolutionary War but in all the wars where our freedom has been defended and preserved. In most military conflicts we are a power to ensure freedom is defended at all costs.

However, through all this, our freedom has been attacked a few times. Most noticeably, our freedom was attacked on September 11, 2001 through evil and despicable acts of terror. In addition to remembering those people that gave their lives in defense of the country, we remember the lives so innocently taken from us, on that day, and on any day.

As we sit and look towards the dusk sky and fireworks at night, as we sit and celebrate with alcohol, good food, family, and friends, let us remember to give thanks, and celebrate the people that we are today.

Current mood:  uncomfortable
People across the United States today observe Father's Day today, but just like Mother's Day, it's something to be observed every day of our lives. They are the reason that we're here, whether we come from a household of abuse, a split family, or one that's "normal" we are still grateful to a point that it is because of our parents we are alive. Fathers play an important role in the upbringing of their sons and daughters. While daughters will cling to fathers, and sons cling to mothers, it is dad who teaches us the tools of the trade.

My father has taught me a great many things in this life, how to level patio bricks, how not to mix booze in such a way that it'll make you sick, how to ride my bike, how to grill, how to stain a deck, and countless other things. One of the nuggets I was talking about earlier this week with someone was the fact that he always taught me secrets....like, make sure you scoop the blue cheese dressing from the bototom because that's where all the chunks are.

This past week has been relatively exciting. Not much in some departments, lots of things in other departments. Work was fine this past week, and now it's three more days of work left before vacation. We'll touch more on that later.
