Hi! I know I didn't let the whole world know, but a lot of friends and fans knew about my dad's open heart surgery a couple of weeks ago. I wanted to thank all of you who have kept him in your thoughts and prayers and sent love, though you've never met him.
He had a double bypass and a heart valve replacement and is doing very well. I don't think any of his doctors could even ask for a better recovery. My dad is a very special part of our family and is a kind soul, a true testiment of spirit, faith, and love, and what being a man is really all about, strong in all the best ways. He has spent his adult life as a veterinarian and has healed so many lives. We are so blessed he had great doctors working on and healing him. It was inspiring to watch him recover with grace and patience. And inspiring to watch my mom take care of everything else! I hope I can take hard things in my life so gracefully as he did this.
I know every bit of love sent for him was appreciated and needed. Thank you all for caring about someone who is so important to me. Love to you all, Laurel

Hey everyone! Some of you already know that we have a music video out as of today on youtube featuring our new, unreleased single, "I Taught Your Girlfriend". Although we'll be posting it on myspace and facebook asap, you can find it at www.youtube.com and search Laurel and the Electric Circus. It should be the first entry to pop up. The video has been produced and helped by several people that I'd like to thank, first and foremost, Rayne Langley, director, cameraman, producer, editor, engineer. Rayne agreed to take on our music video as a project for his film class at McNeese University. Please check out his other projects on youtube. They're all fun! Kim Hughes, our 'girlfriend', who did a fantastic job and looked great. It's always a pleasure! CRYSTAL'S NIGHTCLUB for letting us shoot many of the scenes on location and for making it fun with beverages. Nicholas Cruz (Nicholas Cruz and Co. Salon assisted with hair and make-up) and Chad Evans and Kit, for assisting in operations at Crystal's and dj'ing. Sheryl's 50 Cent Store and Izzy's Funky Resale(Beaumont/Nederland) for wardrobe assistance. And all of our fantastic extras who made the night fun, energetic, and played the parts of barflys and dances very well: Tamara Marcott, Sheila, Erika, Hannah, and Cody (there were more extras even though your name wasn't on the list, you know who you are!) Thanks to everyone! We had a great time shooting the video and I hope you have a good time watching it! Laurel and the Electric Circus

Ok, so not really the movies, but a fun facsimile. Fellow musician and McNeese media arts student, Rayne Langley, asked for my prolific supporting role acting abilities (in other words, the first girl dropped out and I was a last minute replacement, hee hee) in his student film project where he was asked to make a movie trailor for a fictional film. Rayne was making a horror flick and along with a couple of shots of horrified expressions on my part, I got to assist with special effects (flicking the lampshade and pulling chairs and closet doors, etc.) and with the star, Kim, a promising actress who gave a good scary face. I had a ball! I would definitely like to do it again, so if there's anyone making a film, I'm a good lampshade flicker. Thanks to Rayne! Check it out! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=irUWv4362-wLaurel

Hi everyone! Wow! I have tried several times to write down my thoughts about Pride and this weekend, and I'm finally sitting down long enough and had enough sleep to try again for good.
So...first of all, I want to thank everyone for making my birthday so great. I have never been sung Happy Birthday by so many people at one time. It was a humbling experience to stand there and take all that love. It made me squirm in a good way! The print taken from Candace's collection and signed by everyone was a unforgettable piece. Thank you!
Pride was a beautiful day from beginning to end. I was so impressed at all of the people from all over that came out to celebrate being themselves. It was an expression of love and family and friendship and I was so glad to be a part of it. Thank you for giving me a chance to give back to a community that has given so much to me over the years. It was a honor.
Many people don't know what all goes into making an event like Pride come to life, and there is a lot of behind the scenes work for months before, usually. So the fact that Megan Norris headed a small, hardworking group of people into lights, camera, action in just under 3 months (correct me if I'm wrong) is amazing! Most people take longer to plan weddings! Hats off to you, Megan, and everyone on the committee for giving us such a gift. You all shined that day. To all the performers, Polly's Lament (great pipes), Chad Evans, Nicholas Cruz, Josh Duffy, to my wife, Missie, and Dean for working sound production (sounded great!), to Sheryl for my incredibly cool outfit that you handmade, all the great vendors who sold great food, art, and info, and to all of the volunteers, who fearlessly did whatever was required to keep it running smooth, and to Chad's parents, Anjanette and Keith for the trailer with A/C(muchos gracias)!!
It takes an village, and we have one right here in Lake Charles, Louisiana! Here's to the foundation of a genorous, honorable, and 'fabulous' community. You did it!
Laurel

Leslie Berman gave a great write-up in the Jambalaya News, a biweekly publication in the Lake Charles area, for the band and the new ep, The Recession Sessions. She goes back to the first memories of Laurel and the Untouchables through what the Electric Circus is doing now.
Leslie has great credentials to back up any piece as she has contributed to major publications like the Village Voice and voted on the Grammys. I am happy to have her comment on any part of my career!
Also...Missie finally got all of our pictures up. People, we're talking months of pictures, and boy, did it take a long time. I'm very proud of her for chaining her butt to the computer long enough to do it. It was worth it. There's some great pictures, especially Gayla and Tara having the longest tongue contest (I'll let you find those).
Take care everybody! Laurel

That's right, I finally got my derriere in a pair(hey, that rhymed) of Gap jeans. They were the sexy boot, in case you have the same problem I do fitting into jeans. And the best part about it was they were free for our performance last night at the Gap Store in the Lake Charles Prien Lake Mall.
THANK YOU TO EVERYONE WHO CAME OUT! I know how hard it is to get out on a school night, but you guys did it! It could go a long way towards a possible win for the contest. At any rate, it's a great thing to put on our resume that we played in a Gap Store....not all rockstars can say that..not even Tiffany...probably. I know everyone who couldn't make it was there in spirit and I love you for that too!
We had a lot of fun and Dean was steadily snickering as I became to best darn commercial you ever saw for Gap jeans. He didn't think I had it in me, but I was prompting all the bargains over the microphone with the best of them...15% off, $20 off, 2 for 1. People, we're talking good deals! I think I'm going to apply for a job on my off time. So, that'll be about 3am everyday.
Kimberly and her staff at Gap are very cool. They gave me a scarf to play with on stage and I ended up buying it. It was a sneaky plan and it worked. Ok, I asked for the scarf and then had too much fun with it to give it back, way Stevie Nicks.
I'll keep you posted about the contest. Y'all are great support! Thanks to CC for submitting us in the contest.

Ok, I know I like to talk and type a lot, but I had no idea just how much more than most until I saw my Q & A session in Skope Magazine's Artist 2 Watch section next to two other musicians. It makes me look like the Winston Churchill of musician essays! I figured I would give them a whole lotta answers, and they could take out anything that was too lengthy. But, apparently, it was all just fine, just very long. So, please enjoy my essay about being a musician . It is an honor to be selected for the write-up, and to be an artist to keep your eye on! Go to www.skopemag.com, search for Laurel, click on Artists 2 Watch for August (right up top) and scroll down. I'm third down. The other artists are interesting too. Thanks to Skope Magazine and to Sonicbids for the opportunity to submit for great press! And thanks to all of you guys for being a part of the success! Love, Laurel

Thanks to everyone who has asked about our trip to Mexico! We had a blast! I'm not ashamed to say I am exhausted after our time out o'the county cause I didn't want to miss a minute more than I had to sleeping when I could be looking and doing. It was beautiful and HOT! Did I say hot, I meant, HOT!!! No hotter than here, but the sun is closer to you near the equator, so my white skin burned fast and red. I have old lady skin on my arm where the flesh was nearly incinerated the day we went sailing and snorkeling. I used a whole big tube of sunscreen but it was no match.
Sandos resort, where we played out shows (they have two resorts, we hit 'em both) was gorgeous. Exactly how it looks on tv, blue water, white sand, nice waiters and bartenders, frozen fruity drinks you wouldn't dare drink anywhere else if you're a guy or tough lady, but there they are completely natural, even Jake might have had one or two and Dean had 50. The swim-up bar was the best, and Eddye the bartender rocked! Food was delicious and they always had something going on to entertain you. There were iguanas and little animals we've only seen in books that roamed free and hardly ever bothered you except if you had some food sitting by the pool and a hungry 3 ft. iguana was interested (just ask cc, i think she split personalities when ole scaly jumped on my chair with me...and i still didn't give my my burger).
Randy at Special Event Tours was really cool and we all had a good time setting up for our shows. The staff danced and acted goofy right along with us as we performed. They got everyone dancing-which makes you think about your favorite bartender at your neighborhood bar...would you want them out dancing with you when we play? I think we should get them all involved...could be fun, could be scary.
Thanks again to all of our friends who came along with us-you made it possible for us to be there, and I will always be grateful! We had a blast and made memories! Love you all Laurel
