Can't promise this is the start of me keeping this blog regularly but it's better than nothing I guess! A year's worth of entries just ain't gonna happen so as a quick run down, this year has been...

Babies - Hannah born end of Jan, Ben born start of April. Both cuties, of course. Hannah was emergency C-section as she was breach. Amy went into labour and refused to go to hospital to start with as she wanted to finish cleaning the bathroom! Steve eventually convinced her to go and they found out Hannah's heartbeat was a bit ropey and she was breach so they rushed Amy into theatre. All went well and Hannah is now 10/11 months old, crawling about and very cute! She looks very much like Steve. but with Amy's eyes. Amy has now gone back to work (which I don't agree with, seeing as she doesn't actually need to) and Hannah goes to nursery 3 days a week.

Ben is the smiliest baby in the world. You just have to look at him and he cracks a huge grin at you. He's a much, much better sleeper than Sam was at this age. Possibly because we've been stricter with it. He's now commando crawling around the place and getting into everything. It's that fun age where he doesn't understand the word "no" and just eats everything. Sam of course is very impressed when he discovers Ben munching on yet another one of his toys but he's been remarkably good with him. He went through a phase of calling himself "Baby Sam" at the beginning and sitting in Ben's bouncer, but now Ben's becoming more independent he's chilling out more. I think it helps that I have my hands free more more so I can give him more attention again. he also started playschool in September, which was a bit tough at first, but he settled in fairly quickly and seems to enjoy it. We've also started looking into schools for him as it's only 18 months till he starts! Scary stuff!

When all the horrible money stuff started at the beginning of the year we had a bit of a scare that we would have to sell up. Our mortgage went sky high and we just couldn't afford it. We had the estate agents round and were about to put it on the market when a neighbour asked us if we'd thought about taking in a lodger. I looked about on line and was really surprised at how much the going rate is for a room in a house these days, so after some deliberation we placed an ad for Sam's room (annoying as we'd just just decorated it and got him all settled in there with his toys etc!) We had a 45 year old bloke answer first, who seemed nice enough and named dropped a lot as he supplied organic meat to all the top London chefs. We nearly went for it but then got contacted by Coralie, who sounded much more like out cup of tea. She moved in a couple of days after I came out of hospital with Ben and settled in pretty quickly. She's fab with the boys and it's nice to have some adult conversation in the day when she's not working. Frankly I don't know what I'd do without her as she's more like a mother's help than a lodger! We've also had our 15 minutes of fame as there have been various news articles about the "new breed of landlady" in the news lately, because of the credit crunch, and so far I have been interviewed live on Radio 4 for Woman's Hour and a picture of all of us has appeared in the Sunday Telegraph! She came up with us to Andi's folks for Christmas too so she definitely part of the furniture now!

I've got back into body modification a bit again, after my 3 year hiatus for childbearing! I've messed around sticking things in and taking things out of my ears and finally settled on a stretched on either side with a single stud above that. Still debating whether to wear my tragus or not. I've had my nose repierced for the 6th (and hopefully final!) time. I'm now wearing two of my four tongue studs, and considering putting the other two back in with a labret post and flat disc to make it more comfortable and less conspicuous. I've replaced my navel bar (God knows how that isn't healed up after 3 years and two babies!) and have had three shiny new additions in the form of dermal anchors across my left wrist. I'd been looking into them on line and decided I wanted to get it done. On Nick's myspace it said that he did them so I went to see him but was disappointed to learn that he is no longer piercing, and Capileo has shut down completely. Apparently he went bankrupt and as such isn't allowed to train under his name any more. I did some research and looked on a few forums, and a name that came up a few times with good reviews was Tiff Badhairdo at Opus Magnum in Brighton. We made an appointment to go and see her on Saturday and I was really, really impressed with her professionalism. She talked us through the whole thing and all the aftercare etc, and made she we were happy with all the sterilisation etc before going ahead. They took much longer to do than I thought (about 45 mins for the three) but I'm really pleased with them, they look fab and weren't really very painful at all. Just a sting as much as any piercing and certainly very funky in my opinion. They're my first semi permanent mod, as although they can be removed, they pretty much have to be cut out so I'll really need to go to the studio if I want them gone. They've really opened up a whole world of possibilities and they've got me quite excited about other stuff I could have done. My tattoo thoughts have started to clear too, and I'm now more certain of what I'd like done. I've an image of a vine creeping up my side, from my hip to my lowest rib, with a few flowers coming off it... however I've also been looking into scarification (as Tiff does that too and the small amount of her stuff I've seen is amazing) and I'm quite liking the more subtle look of that at the moment too. In any case nothing can be done until I've lost some weight, so I have to attend to that small matter first anyway! I start Lighterlife again in January (no set date yet) and I'm really looking forward to it. I'm totally geared up for it and would love to have started back in October time, but as I was still breastfeeding the counsellor advised again it. I've been talking to Vicky Mayne, who's been very successful on it, and also Sarah Wells, who although put the weight back on, knows exactly where she went wrong (didn't go to the maintenance meeting after the weight loss) and I'm feeling quite confident about the whole thing.

And on that epic note I'm going to finish uploading photos (only about 500 to do as it hasn't been done for so long!) and make lovely cup of tea! Tomorrow begins the shopping, cooking and cleaning for the second Christmas for us this year, on Sunday when Mum and Malcolm come down with their present for the boys. They still have a load under the tree from friends to open and they've really been spolied this year. Frankly, I find it a little disgusting how much they get, especially Ben (who's far too young to care!), and as I've cleared two cardboard boxes of toys out to make way for new ones I'm tempted to find a really good charity or children's home that might like a donation of nearly new toys.

Anyway - tea and photos ahoy! Will try to update more regularly in the New Year!

Current mood:  calm

This is the exact reason why I never managed to keep a diary... I always leave it too long and then wonder if it's worth it!  Thankfully it seems to be acceptable to leave extended periods between updates when you do this on line!

Sam's potty training has been abandoned for now.  He just wasn't getting any better at it.  When he did wee in the potty, it was because I'd put him on there at the right time, and although there were occasions when he did tell me "wee wee", it was just as often because he'd already done it on the carpet.  He also wasn't pooing, and was holding it in for days at a time, before getting really panicky when it eventually had to come out.  He was giving himself a sore stomach so we decided that it wasn't worth doing it yet if he wasn't ready, and put him back into nappies.  Even so, it took him another 2 weeks before he stopped getting hysterical about having a poo, and I'm glad we abandoned it when we did, in case we ended up giving him a permanent complex about it.  We'll try again in the summer, when things have settled down again after number two has arrived.

Since the last update, we have decided on a name for our new little bundle of joy.  He is to be a Benjamin.  Middle name yet to be decided but I quite like George - partly after both the grandfathers but also because it's an acceptable name these days as well.  He's very active at the moment, much more so than Sam, although he is lying in the same position with his head up in my ribs, which I'm sure will be just as much fun in the weeks to come as it was with Sam.  I'm starting to find it uncomfortable to sleep now, and am getting up at least once in the night as he seems to think it's fun to tap dance on my bladder!  I'm 29 weeks tomorrow and I'm pretty sure I've decided to go for a C section, if possible.  Having spoken to a very nice midwife last week, she read my notes and agreed I'd definitely gone through the mill with Sam.  Apparently they try to avoid doing episiotomies at all now as they are so barbaric, and to have one for a forceps birth means a big cut.  She said that she had one natural birth and one c-section with her children, and that I would definitely find a section way less painful than what I went through with Sam, although of course there's just as much chance that it would be straightforward birth this time round if I went down the natural route.  Frankly, if I'm going to be back on my feet by the next day (admittedly not doing cartwheels) I'd rather take the definite option of a section, than run the risk of a repeat performance of two years ago.

Amy seems to be doing well, she finishes work this week and then only has one more week before her due date.  She went to the midwife today and found the baby has an irregular heartbeat, so was sent to the hospital to be wired up for a few hours.  They weren't unduly concerned though, and the registrar said they'd just do a couple of extra checks when she's born but that's it.  Apparently it's quite common anyway.  I'll be interested to see if she goes overdue, and if so by how much, seeing as Mum was late with both of us and I was very late with Sam.

Had to take Enkil to the vet this morning as his scabs are getting worse and worse.  The one on his head is definitely better than when we first got him, but is still there and still bleeds regularly.  We also noticed the other day that he has two on his rear legs, on his hocks, one of which is bleeding (we keep finding blood on the floor) as well as a fair sized one on his front paw and the whole of the inside of one ear, which is raw and weeping.  The one on his ear is especially bad as when it dries out it curls his ear over, until it cracks open again.  The vet said that it's most likely an allergy to something (oesonophilic superficial dermatitis - oesonophilic means to do with white blood cells) but that it's going to be case of ruling things out.  She wants us to change his diet, and has ordered some food for us, which means all the cats will have to have it.  Also it only comes in dry form, which will impress all of them.  She gave him an antibiotics jab and some steroids to help with the sores he already has and also gave me some cream to put on, which has antibiotics and steroids in it too.  I've been trying to clean his ear up with salty water, which seems to have made it uncurl a little.  She also said it could be a flea allergy, so we need to be right up to date with flea treatments.  I got some drops and did all the cats this evening - glad I did as I actually saw a flea on Enkil earlier, so perhaps it's a reaction to their bites.  He's being surprisingly good about being manhandled, and lets me clean him up without struggling much, which is a relief.  Poor kitten.

We had a hilariously fun letter from Birmingham Midshires last weekend, telling us that as the mortgage had now come off its fixed rate, we are going to variable.  This means that our monthly payments go up by £400 a month - ha ha ha!!  I know they have every right to do it and that if we were sensible we'd have kept an eye on rates and been prepared for it, but I do love the way they just say "by the way, next month we want this much extra" without any suggestions of help or advice.  Anyway, we're now in the middle of negotiations with a new IFA, who although is VERY blunt and to the point, seems to know his stuff and is fairly certain he can not only get us a new deal but also incorporate a few of our bigger debts, so tidying our finances a bit.  It still means we'll need to find £300 extra a month but anything is better than nothing and it'll be nice not have any loans hanging over us.  Even if he can't negotiate to include our extra debts, he can definitely get us a better rate, so it was well worth talking to him.  We had 3 estate agents come round today to value the house, the first two put it at £310K, which is very nice to hear since we paid £250K for it two years ago.  The last one reckoned it was worth £350K, which is a load of shite.  He was clearly a muppet anyway, as he was slagging off next door (no2), saying that their place wasn't in as good condition as ours, when Andi and I have both been there numerous times and know that it is actually in fabulous condition, due to the extension and renovations they had done about 3 years ago!  Gotta love these people who tell you anything to make you us their company!  Anyway, details have been passed to financial bods and we've now got to wait and hope it all goes through ok, in the meantime finding the extra cash to cover the mortgage.  Infuriatingly, there seems to be nothing I can do to make any extra money at the moment.  No one will touch me at this stage of pregnancy, even if I did have the energy at the end of the day to go and do an evening job!

Mum and I have decided to go ahead with Wedding Babies, and the website is now up and running.  I've phones about 40 Hants hotels, and sent our flyers and business cards to them.  We are also booking in to do 3 wedding fairs, which I think will be far more productive.  The hotels may keep our details on file in case someone asks, but at the fairs we'll have access to the actual brides themselves.  We have one at Langrish House, one at Marwell and one at Lythe Hill (although that one is in April so Mum might have to do that one herself).  We also need to sort out insurance, which Mum is handling.  As I'm already Ofsted registered, that looks good on the papers, and I also need to sort out my first aid course, as I'm meant to do that within 6 months of starting childminding.

I took on a new little boy the other day, Joshua, who is 11 months old.  He seems very sweet, I think it'll take him a couple of times to settle in and he was a little grumbly on his first day today, understandably.  I may only have him till end of March as his Mum's contract for work runs out then, but she's hoping to find something else after that so we'll see.  It's good for Sam to have someone a bit nearer to his age as well, as he's not too keen on sharing at the moment.

I had another e mail from Debbie in Canada, saying hi and giving me the contact details of Marilyn Del Medico, my half aunt.  I passed the message on to Uncle Glen and he said he will write to her, as he's fairly sure she knows we exist.  She would have been 20 when George came over for a month to see Dad and Glen, and as he said, you'd wonder where your Dad had disappeared to for a month with all his clothes and stuff.  Will be interesting to see what sort of response he gets, if any.

That's it for now.  Will probably update in another month!

I think I've been neglecting this blog a little.  Not as much as Andrew of course, who hasn't updated his since June, I think!

Not much has been going on here really.  I've started childminding for a little girl of 7 called Grace.  I pick her up from school 4 days a week, and am supposed to have her until 6pm, although most of the time her Mum or Dad comes to get her early.  As they have to sign a contract for my time though, I still get paid till 6, which is great!  She's nice enough, a little precocious but to be honest that makes my job easier as she's chatty too and not afraid to tell me what she wants to do.  Sometimes it's hard to work out what to do with a seven year old girl for a few hours, but usually we play a game like Guess Who or Snakes and Ladders, then she watches a bit of tv before she gets picked up.  This last week has been interesting, as I've been trying to potty train Sam.  He got out of the bath last week saying "wee wee!" and panicking a little, then wee'd on the floor!  We decided to take that as a sign he was ready to start and he's doing ok so far.  Still a fair number of accidents every day, but he's gtting there slowly.  The problem is that when I'm childminding, he gets distracted and therefore there are more accidents!  We're going to give it another week to see how he gets on, then if ther's no improvement we might take a step back into training pants (he's either naked from the waist down, or in big boy pants at the moment).

We went to visit Andy and Catherine's lovely new house a couple of Sundays ago.  We had lunch there and also took Bella to her new hom.  She was a little nervous at first, but after we'd been there a while she ventured off my lap and by the time we left she was sitting on the sofa with Andy and Ed being a right old flirt!  Latest reports are that she's settled in very well, and has commandeered a spot to sleep in under the radiator in the living room!  As Bella was going, and we were to be left with on cat, we contacted the Cat's protection to see about rehoming.  After passing the home inspection, we went one weekend to have a look at the cats that needed a new home.  Eventually we picked "Ghostie", a massive fluffy grey and white boy, who was only one and had some more growing to do, despite his already enormous size!  We arranged to pick him up the following weekend, but got a call in the week to say that unfortunatly when he had been in the vet's for a check up he had got into a big scrap with another cat and they didn't think he'd be suitable with Jashia.  We went back to look again, and a cute kitten with stitches in his head was desperate for our attention.  They weren't going to suggest him to us but we asked to see him and he was very cute and friendly, jumping on our shoulders and purring away.  He got on really well with his sister, who was housed with the rest of the kittens in another pen (he had been separated due to his stitches),  We were told that he family he'd come from just kept having litters of kittens and giving them to Cat's Protection, and he'd been on the receiving end of a cat fight and had been bitten.  It turned out he has a skin condition that means he doesn't heal as quickly as he should, hence the stitches.  We decided to take him and his sister, and re-named them Akasha and Enkil.  They're settling in really well, and are very affectionate.  Jashia was NOT impressed for the first few days, although she's coming round now and doesn't growl at them quite as much!  She spent the first day hiding behind the computer deak, and has gradually improved since then.

We had our 20 week scan on Monday and found out that we are having another little boy.  Now we need to agree on a name!  Current favourites include Nicholas, Sebastian and Christopher.  Andrew felt him kick for the first time the other night too, which makes it so much more real to him.

Had The Close bonfire night on Friday.  As it can no longer be held on the spare land opposite since the new house has gone up, the new owners, Ian & Betty, offered to cater and the local farmer agreed to let us have it in the field behind.  The fire was a really good size considering it was created by 10 houses, and the fireworks were pretty good too!  I was worried how Sam would be with them, but after the first few and a couple of whimpers, he soon got used to the noise and was smiling at them by the end of it.  There was mulled wine and mulled apple juice (which was yum and non alcoholic, might try some for Christmas!). Sarah and Richard came along too so there were plenty of people to entertain Sam if he got grumpy!

Just got back from seeing my sister in Leeds.  It's a long old drive!  We left yesterday morning and had a pretty clear run up there.  Unfortunately Sam is all off kilter after a couple of late nights so he wasn't really at his best - I think Steve suffered worst as he was very hungover from a night out on Friday and Sam's whining was going straight through him!  Saw the fireworks on their local green, which were really good.  Sam didn't bat an eyelid when they started and even chuckled and pointed at a few, so I think we can safely say he's ok with them!  The food was less than impressive - frankfurters out of a tin for the hot dogs or a reheated pork pie for the "pie and peas".  How very northern!  I waited till we got back for a sausage sandwich back at Amy & Steve's!  While we were there we also got Sam a flashy lightsaber thing, which he was suitably impressed with and proceeded to hit Andrew around with the head with several times whilst in the backpack on his back!

This morning we drove back in convoy, with Andi driving Amy's (now his!) car.  We stopped halfway for a disappointing lunch and got back around three.  Not a very exciting day really and the house stank when we got back after being shut up all weekend with the cats and the litter tray.  Lots to do next week trying to catch up on washing, sort out the spare room ready for Andi's parents next weekend and rake up the leaves in the garden before they rot the entire bottom of the apple tree!

We've come to the decision that we don't want to have any more litters of kittens.  After pulling out the bin and washing basket last week to find the cats had been weeing behind there for some time, including all over the £120 baby carrier, we've had enough of our house and belongings being destroyed!  I contacted a cat rescue centre last week about getting a rescue to keep Jash company once Bella goes, and after 3 days the woman finally replied to me.  Silly woman obviously has no idea about Bengals as she tried to tell me that they "aren't very good with other cats" and that she "has had several in that have been quite anti-social".  For starters I don't believe anyone gives a cat that costs a minimum of £500 to a rescue centre, so I doubt very much she's had "several" in.  Secondly, of all the Bengals I know and have heard of, I've not come across one that has a problem with other breeds of cat.  What she probably means is she once had two in that had been mistreated and had a personality issue.  So I've decided not to use them and find one from elsewhere instead, I'm sure there are plenty of other rescue centres with cats that need a good home.  Silly woman - grr!!  She really wound me up!

Sam and I have been trying out some new baby groups this week too.  We went to a Jo Jingles class on Wednesday morning.  It's singing and dancing around a bit and playing some musical instruments.  Fun enough and I can see they are trying to give an introduction to structure before school etc, but Sam didn't seem particularly interested in it - he was a bit "wtf is this all in aid of then!" and for £4.50 for 45 minutes I think it's a bit steep.  Next Wednesday we're going to try a coffee morning in Moggs Mead that's £1.50 for two hours.  It won't have the structure but will at least be more children, different toys and less money!  On Thursday morning we went to Little Green Frogs in the Community Centre.  That was much better and had some free play on foam climbing blocks, a slide, a big ball pool etc, then some singing, then more free play, then a puppet show.  It was much gentler in terms of structure, as it didn't expect under 2s to be able to sit still for nearly an hour, but just encouraged them to do so in small chunks.  Sam really seemed to enjoy it, and even stayed still for most of the puppet show!  The women running it seemed a little less fierce than the Jo Jingles lady (who was very nice, but seemed like more of the "stern au pair" sort!)  I also met a couple of other women, one with a little girl with Down's and one who is a nanny.  They both seemed really nice and chatty and told me about a Tuesday morning art group they go to that we're going to try next week.  We'll definitely go back to Little Green Frogs as well.  In the afternoon we sauntered up to East Meon to search out a coffee group I'd heard about, and found it in the village hall.  That was nice and friendly too, everyone was very welcoming and it was nice for Sam to have a great big hall to run around in.  I think he was getting a bit overwhelmed after a while, because he started to get quite clingy and a bit whiney after a while, so we won't go for quite as long next time but introduce him to it gradually.  We'll go back there again too though, especially as it's so local and cheap!  So we appear to now have activites on Tuesday, Wednesday and all day Thursday - what it is to have the social life of a two year old!

Well, more of a Farm really!  We wanted to take Sam for a nice day out and had surprising trouble deciding where to go!  We were going to go to London Zoo - but heard some really bad reviws that there were hardly any animals there and the food was crap and really expensive.  So then we thought we might go to Whipsnade, as that's where all the animals have been moved to, but decided that it was a very long way to go considering Sam might be a bit young to fully appreciate it.  We also thought that for all that way it might be nice to rally some more troops and go up with a group of people.  Marwell then entered our heads, but as we went there this summer with Ben, Sonia and Smurf I thought it would be nice to go somewhere different, so we considered Longleat, but a toddler in a car for all that time, driving down there and then driving round the park, probably isn't a good idea.  In the end we settled for a Farm Park that's near my Mum's called Fisher's Farm Park.  It's basically a small farm with lots of play equipment, tractor rides etc.  We saw the bunnies and guinea pigs, also the horses (which Sam was a little scared of at first) and they had a little muntjac deer that had been hit by a car and nursed back to health.  He was blind in one eye as a result and couldn't be re released and was amazingly tame.  Thy had a lovely friendly cat there which tolerated Sam patting and stroking it admirably, and also very smelly pigs who loved having their snouts scratched!  Sam was bizarrely very interested in the chickens, and was running round and round their pens (like rabbit hutches on the grass) they were following him too which made us think perhaps we ought to get some!  When we got home we let Sam (and I!) have a nice long nap, then we did a little experiment and went out to Pizza Express for dinner.  Sam was on his best behavious the whole time, so at least now we know he can go out in the evenings with us if necessary, which will help with bonfire night next weekend

Saw the midwife again on Friday too for a routine check up.  Everything is fine and we heard the heartbeat again which was lovely and reassuring.  Since we've been, Sam has been lifting up my top and poking my belly, saying "baby" and giving it a kiss - very cute.  We're also trying not to call him a baby any more to avoid confusion but it takes some remembering sometimes.

This weekend we're going to try and get the skirting boards sorted in Sam's new room so we can start using it again.  not sure how easy it will be but it will be nice to not have to keep the door closed in there all the time and we can get the radiator back on the wall and warm the place up a bit too (might need to order some more oil before we do that!)

Random post alert.  For some reason I just thought of this poem, I think I originally learned it from Story Teller.  Anyway, I remebered all but the last two lines, which I think is very impressive!  Here is it...

The Puffin
by florence jacques

There once was a puffin just the shape of a muffin,
And he lived on an island in the deep blue sea,
He ate little fishes, which were most delicious,
And he ate them for breakfast and he ate them for tea.

But this poor little puffin, he couldn't play nothin',
'Cause he didn't have no-one to play with at all.
So he sat on his island and he cried for a while, and
He felt very lonesome and he felt very small.

Then along came the fishes and they said, "If you wishes,
You can have us for playmates, instead of for tea."
Now they all play together in all kinds of weather,
And the puffin eats pancakes, like you and like me.

Well, I know I've missed a sizeable chunk of stuff out, and I thought I might try to catch it all up properly and post one section about the honeymoon and then another about the aftermath etc.  The truth is I just can't be bothered!  I have notes about the honeymoon written by hand in our memories box and seeing as this blog is really memories just for me, I don't really see the point in killing myself duplicating it all.  Suffice to say for anyone who does read my ramblings, we had a fabulous time, it was beautiful, hard work and an amazing experience.  The country is so diverse and our time there was fantastic, from the beaches to the rainforests, and there is definitely one resort we would go back to (sans children!) for a romantic ten year anniversary reunion perhaps!  Although I have to wonder whether it's ever safe to go back or if it could be a disappointment.

Whilst away on our travels Andrew managed to live up to the Knight family name and I am once again expecting.  At time of writing I am 15 weeks, and have just about got over the all-day sickness, definitely one of the worse parts of pregnancy for me.  Although again this time I managed to avoid actually being physically sick, the nausea was all day long and very debilitating, so I'm more than happy to see the back of it.  I'm not quite as bone numbingly exhausted anymore either, but I'm still taking advantage of the odd afternoon nap with Samuel to recharge my batteries!  We had a scan at 8 weeks courtesy of Catherine and her colleague at work, and then our nuchal scan at 12 weeks as usual.  We've had no word from that so I assume everything was fine!  I went to see the consultant too this time, to discuss birth options as Sam's birth wasn't the most pleasant and straightforward experience in the world.  He seemed (understandably) reluctant to offer me a C-section there and then, and wants me to go back at 37 weeks to see how big the baby is before making a decision.  He said it's quite likely I would tear along the original site again, but it tends not to be so bad with second babies.  I don't believe him!  Second babies by his own admission are usually bigger than first ones, and with Sam weighing in at 8lb4oz I fail to believe any bigger than isn't going to cause me repeat trauma.  Regardless, I'm in two minds myself as to what I want to do.  Part of me feels an elective section would be cheating, and wonders whether my brain has made it all seems worse than it was, in retrospect.  The other part of me remembers crying and not sleeping due to the pain, not the baby, and only being comfortable in the bath with one foot either side of the tub!  Not really an option this time with a toddler running about.  I guss I have a few weeks to decide yet, so will just try to enjoy this middle period before I get huge and house like again, and think about it again nearer the time.

I've also decided that after the birth and recovery, I might like to try getting a bit of regular excercise in my life.  I know it's something I've tried and tried and tried again to do, and failed every time, but I'm not intending to spend any money on wasted gym memberships this time, and will just make an effort to walk out the front door for a brisk stroll, maybe even trying to break into a run, and also possibly even go for a few sit up to try and reclaim some of the figure I used to have, not that it was perfect even before children!  Who knows, maybe I'll be doing the great south run before we know it (snigger).  But seriously, perhaps actually putting it writing, on the net, will make me motivate myself to do it.  God knows nothing else ever seems to work!

We've been redecorating the spare room for Sam over the last few weeks, preparing for him to move in there as soon as possible to avoid any potential rivalry about the new baby "stealing" his room.  The baby won't go in there straight away but all it's stuff (clothes, nappies etc) will and I don't want him to see it as his room anymore.  Malcolm very kindly came over for the last two weekends and put up some lovely wallpaper for us, pale blue background with blue, dark blue and silver stars all over it.  It looks great and we're now putting up the coving, to be closely followed by new skirting boards.  Mum has given us a pale blue carpet that used to be in Malcolm's room, so if it fits it will save us some cash, if not we'll have to buy a new carpet, but that room definitely needs one as the sound from dowstairs travels straight up through the floorboards.

Well, that's all the major news from this end.  I'll try and keep this a bit more up to date so I can write more about the mudane things that I'm less likely to remember in ten years time, instead of the major events that probably don't need to be recorded!

I guess the easiest place to start what will probably be an epic update on my blog is actually with the night before the wedding...

After considerable running about like a blue arsed fly with various boxes dotted around the house marked "To go to Venue", and "To go to Mum's", I went to the hairdresser in the morning to have all my fake hair glued in, then on to the train station to pick up Alex/Cymru/Gruffydd.  This in itself was a slightly daunting task, as we'd never met him before. plus the fact English isn't his first language, plus the fact he's profoundly deaf - we were wondering how well we'd all be able to communicate!  We needn't have worried - his English lip reading was astounding, putting us to shame that as people with fully functional ears we had knowledge of one language to his four!  The rest of the afternoon was taken up chatting and doing last minute prep, before loading up the car and driving down to Mum's to drop me off.  Saying goodbye to Andi was very strange, knowing the next time I saw him would be at the front of the church in all our glory!!

Once Andi and Cymru had left (to meet Andy and Cat Muggs at the venue), I got down to the serious business of having a pedicure and drinking champagne, while Mum kept an eye on Sam.  We had a lateish dinner, then put Sam down at about 20:30 before taking some time to chill out a bit, collect my thoughts, and stick my fake nails on!

I managed not to wake up to obscenely early on the morning.  I woke with Sam at about 7:00, which is about normal really.  We got up and had some breakfast, then I had a bath, all the while thinking how we had loads of time (har har har!!).  I started to do my make up, then halfway through Helen arrived to do my hair.  She gave Sam a haircut first, during which Graham arrived to take some shots, and Mel and Amy turned up with Steve, before heading over to the hairdressers to have their locks sorted out.  Helen then started curling my hair - an epic task which pretty much took the rest of the time until we had to leave!  Everything seemed quite calm until about an hour before hand, when suddenly everything just went mental!  I had to get into my corset (no mean feat!)  It took Mel and Amy a lot of pushing and pulling with me lying flat on the bed (with my head hanging over the edge so I didn't mess up my hair!) but we got there in the end!  Then I had to get into the dress and Amy had to pin me in so the corset didn't show over the top.  All the while Graham is trying to get us to hurry up as he wants to take some pictures of us on the lawn!  Eventually I emerged from the bedroom around the time we had to leave.  I'd managed to stay quite composed up till then, but when Scott and Steve turned up with the cars I had a bit of a moment.  Not sure if it was because the cars were there and I was finally going to be on my way to the church or because Scott was there and seeing one of my good friends made it all quite real!  Anyway, I roped several people in to help me with my shoes (corsets aren't conducive to bending down and doing up fiddly buckles!) then headed out of the house - remembering just as I left that I wasn't holding my bouquet - in fact, I hadn't even seen it yet!!!

We drove up to the church, with me feeling surprisingly composed, and when we got there we greeted by Rev Seb.  While we were getting ourselves settled outside the church, Sam decided he'd had enough messing about and decided to belt off through the graveyard!  Was quite amusing to see Amy and Melissa trying to chase after him in their heels!  Once we'd brought him under control they all headed down the aisle ahead of me, so Sam could see Daddy quickly, then I came down after them with Glenn.  Seeing Andi waiting for me there was just so amazing, I can't even begin to describe it and I think only people who have been through the experience can understand the huge emotion you feel when you are on the point of devoting the rest of your life to someone you love so implicitly.  The ceremony went beautifully, with the only hitches being the missing of Emma's reading, and the slightly wonky rendition of "Hallelujah!" while we were signing the register.  Rev Seb gave a fantastic sermon, really personal to us, and the church looked fantastic with all the flowers and all our friends kitted out so nicely.  When we walked back up the aisle together as a married couple my face ached from smiling so much!

We stayed outside the church for a little while, there was some confetti but the red dye in it had leaked so it was decided it might be best not to throw it all over the dress!  We had a few pics and some chats with people, then got into the car with a bottle of champagne and headed off to the venue.

We were so lucky with the weather, it had been perfect all day and when we got to Lythe Hill it was still sunny, perfect for the ice cream van.  Mum and Malcolm arrived shortly after us and told me that Sam was asleep in their car.  As he was in his travel system car seat I went and lifted him out and brought him straight into the creche without waking him.  Unfortunately, while reaching in to get him I ripped one of my sleeves a little, so had to detach them both for the rest of the day - which was a bit of a shame.  The magician turned up looking a little dishevelled... it turned out he hadn't managed to get a taxi from Haslemere station so had walked the whole way - also while trying to take a short cut he had ripped his shirt, but luckily had a spare with him.

We had some posed photos around the place before dinner, then went and had the line up - which was quite good in that we got to meet and greet every single person but by then end had become a little tiring.  We sat down to eat and I was very pleased with how the meal turned out, although I didn't manage to eat all of it.  I felt the dessert was a little too sweet, but everyone else seemed to enjoy it so I guess it was just me!  In between courses we tried to get up and mingle with people, but it's very hard to try and get round everyone, especially since we'd just get into a conversation then the waiters would come round with the next course and I'd have to struggle back to the table, hoiking my huge dress behind me!!

The speeches were excellent, I thought all the boys did really well.  Andi was really nervous but he managed to overcome it and gave a lovely speech.  Dan's was also excellent, with just the right mix of humour and sentiment, and I thought Uncle Glenn did a good job of what could have been a very difficult task, especially since near the end Sam decided to give his own little show by poking his head out repeatedly from underneath the tablecloth!  Lil won the bet on how long the speeches would last, to the second!  I still think there was some cheating going on there (not really!).  After the meal, while the room was being converted for the disco, Mum, Helen, Malcolm and I went up to M&M's room to freshen up and to put Sam to bed.  I was absolutely boiling by this stage and decided now would be the time to lose my shoes!  Jane arrived fairly soon after we got up there to babysit Sam, and once Helen had tweaked mine and Mum's hair, everyone else left and I put Sam down to sleep.  He wasn't having any of it at first, every time I walked away from him my dress would rustle so much it would wake him up.  Then the windows weren't really doing a good job of masking the noise from outside.  Eventually Jane told me to just go and leave her to it, and about ten minutes later she whispered down to say that he had dropped off.

When I came downstairs again, we had our first dance, to Depeche Mode's "Somebody".  I had been worried it was going to be too slow but in actual fact it was perfect.  The music after that wasn't that great, in all honesty, and a lot of people buggered off outside to smoke, to smoke and also to do a bit of smoking!  I did end up rounding some people up so after a bit the dancefloor didn't look quite as much like a graveyard, and the dj picked up the music a little so it was better to dance to.  At some point the buffet came out - although I've no idea when, and I think I probably had two sausage rolls from it!  I think Aiden quite enjoyed trying various delicacies smeared with ketchup though.

People filtered off throughout the evening and by the time the music finished at midnight there weren't too many people left.  Andy & Catherine and Dan & Lil stayed at the hotel, so we all sat and had a few more drinks outside.  We also found out why all the hotel rooms had been booked up in advance - there had been another wedding (near Kirdford, ironically enough) and all the guests had booked up the rooms at Lythe Hill - very irritating.  Anyway, at about two-ish we decided that we were exhausted, so went to our room... to find it had been very artfully toilet papered and scattered with rose petals - courtesy of Emma and Catherine who had gained access to our room when they put my veil in there for me!  Once we'd actually discovered where the bed was under all of that - we ended up just collapsing and going to sleep!

So last night I battled my stinking tonsillitis (first and hopefully last time ever I have this - yuk!) to go up to London to see The Glorious Action Transvestite and Self Proclaimed Male Lesbian that is the marvellous Eddie Izzard.  The gig started at 11pm, which was actually perfect for me as it gave me time to get Sam to bed and cruise on out of the house, with Mel and I parking in China Town with 30 mins to spare!  We had to go and get some money out and couldn't believe how hard it was to find a cashpoint around Leicester Square (Alex conveniently avoids the fact that they walked past no less than 3 in their search!).  We were also surprised and more than a little irritated by the number of idiots coming up to ask asking if we were looking for a good club to go to.  a) I'm wearing jeans, do I LOOK like I'm about to go clubbing?  b) We're clearly walking with a purpose, do ya think we might actually be going somewhere??!!  c) why would I wander off through London with some dodgy looking bloke anyway.  Anyway, we got our seats which weren't bad at all, if a little high up.  The venue was the London Arts Theatre, which is very cosy so we got a really good view (God he's so Sexie!!)  He came out in blue jeans, black boots and a white shirt tucked in, with just a black suit jacket over the top - very smart and yum yum.  A far cry from when I saw him in Bristol about 8 years ago when he was in pvc tights and stilettos and a pvc skirt!

Pretty much all of the set was brand new (the evening was called "Work in Progress") and all of it was very funny.  There was a lot of reference to Rome and also to flies (who, apparently, can all fuck off!).  The only heckler was dealt with gently at first first, then derisively, then was told to shut the fuck up and stop spoiling it for everyone else - which is exactly how I would have handled him.  I would put some quotes, but we all know they don't translate unless you know them, so I won't spoil it it here.  I would anticipate a big tour and/or dvd soon though so I'd look out for tix at some point.

He wrapped up at a bout quarter to one and by the time we'd found our way back out of London and got home it was twenty to three!  I'm knackered but what a thoroughly bloody good evening!

Current mood:  exhausted
Wow!  What a weekend!  We (Amy, Cat Muggeridge, Vicky and I) drove down to Bournemouth in the morning and met up with the others (Nat, Sadie, Cat Bradshaw and Lolly) at the Travelodge there.  Then we went into town and had a bite to eat at Wetherspoons, before going back to the hotel to pick up cars and drive to the 4x4 place.  It was absolutely weeing it down but no one really minded - it gave us a good opportunity while we waiting to laugh at four chavs who had turned up to do quad biking wearing white jackets and joggy bums!  We were the only girls there and the place seemed to be mosly stags, a suspicion confirmed when one group of lads grabbed one of their friends, took him out into the rain and stripped him totally naked before rolling him in the mud!

We split into two groups and went off in a Land Rover each.  It was all the more fun for the rain as the track was really muddy and slippy, and it made it a bit more challenging.  They started us off doing fairly easy stuff, up and down some small slopes with a bit of slip to them, and getting us used to the very odd fact that when you are going up or down an incline you basically take your feet off the pedals and let the car do the work for you.  After we'd had a go each we did some slightly more taxing stuff (well, taking for us novices anyway!) which basically involved going up and down slightly steeper, slightly more slippery hills!  We all got a bit stuck at one particular place which was very steep and muddy, and we ended up having to roll backwards down the hill a few times, which was quite scary in 6 inches of mud!!

After this we all went back to the hotel and started to get ready for the evening.  Vicky went home as her Gran is very ill and she needed to get to see her and the rest of us went off to a tapas restaurant for dinner.  I managed to get off fairly lightly on the dressing up stakes with a funky jazz hat and a black feather boa, with the only real bit of tack being a "bride to be" sash - kind of compulsory attire really!  The food at Tapas Plus was really good.  Some of the guys had a paella which they said was lovely, and Mel and I shared a load of different dishes.  The girls had organised some questions about Andi for me to answer, if I got them wrong I had various forfeits I had to choose.  It was lots of fun but, unfortunately for them, I only got 2 wrong!!

After the meal we ordered a couple of cabs and dashed from the restaurant into them, and went to a club called Elements (which apparently Prince Harry had graced a few weeks ago).  It had 3 different bars in it, each with different types of music, so we obviously bypassed the R&B and the dance and headed straight for the cheesy 80s section!  It was really busy but the music was fab and everyone was having such a good time.  There were loads of other stags and hens there but the atmosphere was very friendly.  We palled up with a stag party that was there and they were a really good laugh, just jokey and friendly without any real underlying intention like you usually get.  We had a really good dance and an awful lot of laughs - especially with the guys doing their skip rope/drilling/digging routine!  The jazz hat did the rounds an awful lot and ended up on a Jay Kay lookalike before I managed to steal it back.  At about 2am we decided we were all danced out (the club continued till 4am) and we left to get a taxi.  It was still raining a bit but nothing major, so we decided to walk to a taxi rank further away with the thought we might get a cab a little quicker.  After an hour of waiting, seeing someone get physically thrown across the pavement for pushing in the queue and watching a big domestic between and bloke and his girlfriend (very amusing) we conceded we may have made a mistake and phoned for a taxi, which irritatingly arrived within about 5 minutes!  We got back to the hotel and passed out at about 3.30!!

All in all - a thoroughly great bash!!!
