Thank you Corpus Christi for a great FUNNY BOOKS WORLD PREMIERE

On Saturday, April 18, 2009, Twitchy Dolphin Flix premiered its second feature film, FUNNY BOOKS, at the Harbor Playhouse in Corpus Christi, Texas and we can’t thank the entire city enough for such a tremendous experience.

Water Street, the mall, Texas A&M, a radio show, the freakin’ Blue Angels! Who knows where to start with this?

BEFORE THE SHOW

Arriving first on Thursday, writer/director James Christopher, along with creative director and director of photography Chris Copple, soundman and photographer extraordinaire Ricky Velour, and musician Tim Daniel headed straight to Padre-Staples Mall to hand out flyers and meet new fans. Then it was on to the bayside campus of Texas A&M Corpus Christi, home of the Islanders, to pass out more flyers.

The next day we awoke to find a small write-up for the premiere in the local paper, and then more cast and crew began arriving in town. After a thorough tech-check and run-through at the Playhouse with their outstanding technician Marc and creative director Joel, we grabbed lunch at the Executive Surf Club to check out the digs for the after-party. Andy was awesome, basically holding the whole place open an extra hour AND giving up free drinks with premiere tickets for our fans. Then it was back out to A&M for another round of handing out flyers to a new group of students.

While we were there, we got our own private performance from the Blue Angels when they decided to do a practice run for their big weekend show right over our heads. It was exhilarating to say the least.

We followed up the aerobatics with a trip to Port Aransas to check out the beginnings of what would become amazing sand sculptures at the Texas SandFest. Then we met up with some new cast and crew arrivals back in Corpus for dinner and a late night stroll up and down the Water Street entertainment district with more flyers.

BROADCAST BABY!

Saturday started great and never let up. James did a fantastic in-depth interview with Corpus Christi Film Society founder and local radio host Joe Hilliard. Everything from the plot of FUNNY BOOKS to the cameras used in shooting it was discussed and we are so very thankful to Joe for all his help in getting the word out for us.

Jim actually gave the interview from the parking lot at Collector’s Planet comic shop while the rest of us stood around another car nearby with every door and window open and the radio blaring. It was hugely exciting, but as soon as it was over we headed inside the shop to set up for our cast autograph session. David and his staff and customers were fun to spend the afternoon with and we had an enthusiastic turnout. From there it was back to the Surf Club again for another excellent lunch to help support the sponsors.

PREMIERE NIGHT

As people began arriving at the Playhouse the place was buzzing with excitement. We were able to greet over 100 attendees from all over the area before the show and then invited them into the theater for a pre-show that included videos from our new music division Twitchy Dolphin Echoes. Tim Daniel’s “Shallow Grave” written for STRIKE TEAM ARCHANGEL, gave the audience a sneak peak at our recently shot third feature. Look for the video and more about STRIKE TEAM ARCHANGEL on the Web soon.

Trailers for previous and upcoming Twitchy Dolphin releases led into the debut of a hilarious new short called THE CUCKOLD that was written and directed by Will Casto; who also stars as “Flannel Man” in FUNNY BOOKS.

The audience loved the film and kept Jim and Chris on stage for over half an hour with numerous questions about what inspired various aspects of the film and how it came together technically. Then we raffled off a huge premiere poster, autographed by the entire cast, along with a couple of exclusive advance Blu-Ray copies of the DVD. The rest of us have to wait til later this summer…

Many capped off the night with us back at the Executive Surf Club one last time for a late-night dinner, free drink, and an after-hours live performance by Tim Daniel playing many of the songs featured in FUNNY BOOKS.

The entire weekend could not have gone better and we are so grateful to all our new friends and fans in Corpus for making it all so great. We can’t wait to come back again soon…perhaps a DVD release party???

I write this latest entry into our blog, not with encouraging news about the status of our company (there is a bunch!), nor about the excitement of finishing older projects and the promise of new ones on the horizon.

No, I write this on a negative note. With the news that the CROW is being remade by the hack who directed the LEAGUE OF EXTRAORDINARY GENTLEMEN, no less. Look, I am not the "anti-remake" guy. I think you can, at times, improve upon an original. But, i draw the line here. Not just because the first movie is near perfect. Not because, in many ways, my push to movies came from that flick. And not because I think that a CROW movie shot in a "realistic and documentary style" is a bad way to go. All of the previous are true and honestly, will result in box office disaster for the reboot.

Now, I wouldn't mind a sequel to the flick with a new edge to it. The nature of the CROW allows you to do that without paying attention to the story line(s) before. I think the death of Brandon Lee is enough reason to stop any remake of THE CROW. it seems disrespectful, to say the least. I'm hoping that it will be a new movie altogether, as opposed to a reboot. But, industry trends say: people are digging reboots. And some producer who has never seen THE CROW will push it.

I'm just glad I'm not the only one who feels this way:

Greetings Twitchy Dolphin-ers,

It has been a BUSY, BUSY couple of weeks for Texas' favorite micro budget film company.

It all started with a trip to the WIZARD WORLD TEXAS comic convention to promote FUNNY BOOKS. The weekend was a little…well crazy. What else do you call it when you end up partying with American Gladiators and one of your party is dubbed THRUST? Of course, we were there to promote a movie. So, we set up our table with FUNNY BOOKS posters and a preview playing and we made some good contacts. I think the movie will be a hit!

Here are some pics:

Corey Feldman…eesh. There but for the grace of god…

We also hit the ground running on STRIKE TEAM:EIDOLON "SHALLOW GRAVE" last Saturday. It had been a month since we'd shot anything and we were all itching to get out there and do it. I feel like we were prepared for anything…except, maybe, 20 mile per hour winds and about a 35 degree wind chill. We FROZE. Props to our harem girls who had to shoot in tank tops! BRRR! And we also wanted to welcome G and Richard (who took the great photos from the shoot) to the team. The movie continues next week. We are short extras to play militia fighters – let us know if you're interested.

Finally, a couple of weeks ago, I did an interview for a Fan Films Website. If you want to hear me wax poetic about comics and other men in tights for over an hour….

Till next time, keep it Twitchy!

Greeting folks.

What a week. I mean really.

Texas losing to Tech on the last play of the game? What is THAT all about? Not to worry though, Horn's fans. Tech has a lot of losing in their future and we will see where things shake up.

Also, congrats to Barack Obama. Its very cool that we see an African American president in my lifetime. Although, I would argue that the best African American president will always be President Palmer (Dennis Haysbert from 24)

So, Twitchy has a big event going on in Arlington this weekend. We will be at the Wizard World Texas comic convention promoting FUNNY BOOKS.. We're very excited, not just because we might get to meet James O'Barr (creator of the CROW) or get some cool convention exclusives, but it's the chance to give our little movie some legs.

We are gonna have a bunch of pictures to show you, but I thought I would send you the link to one of the FUNNY BOOKS previews….LADY KNIGHT.

Also, here is a link to the new t shirt created by Tim Daniel, our sound guy. Yep, our sound guy. Here a Twitchy Dolphin, if you don't have ten jobs, then you don't have any!

Enjoy! Twitchy Dolphin AWAY!!!!!!!

Hey folks,

Just wanted to thank all of you for the support of our little company this past evening. The costumes were great and we hope you enjoyed Scarlet Waters. For those of you who were unable to make it, we will be getting it up on AMAZON soon and are considering another screening of the flix in February (Friday the 13th!)

Moving forward, we are busy as ever! Currently, we are on a break from STRIKE TEAM EIDOLON. We have already shot several scenes and took about a month off to prepare for the bigger, more action intensive scenes. We do have a teaser up that you can view here. STE TEASER

Twitchy Dolphin will also begin to promote Funny Books next month. We will be making an appearance at Wizard World Dallas. If you are in the Dallas area and are feeling especially GEEKY, check us out...Nov 7-9. Our online store now features new Funny Books Gear, if you're so inclined.

OK, that's it for now! As we wind down the year, we will be getting more info on the upcoming year. The slate is full, hopes are high, prospects are great and that's how we love it. Thanks for being part of the ride!

Wow…it has been a LONNNNGGGGG time since I have blogged. I've done alot in that time. However, there are some things I HAVEN'T done:

1) I still haven't made up with Robert Downey Jr. Nope, never bought Iron Man!
2) I still haven't dropped enough weight to hit 185.
3) I still haven't finished SECRET INVASION. OK...really, I haven't even finishes issue 2.
4) I still haven't watched Dexter Season 2....i know, Frank, I know.
5) And I still haven't found what I'm looking for (neither has Bono)

Anyway, it's weird how your life can just be swept aware by a series of small events.

So, what's happened? A lot.

First, we won an award at the SA Horrific Film Fest. We won for best Special F/X, beating out all the other films, not just the shorts. We're pretty proud of the award, as unattractive as it is, because it truly represents a collaborative effort. Make up, costume, sound and editing all played a role in the win.

In the meantime, we shot 3 more horror shorts that will all play as part of our SCARLET WATERS collection on the 25th of October. Come out and check out the movies. They are all very different and are pretty darn good.

Last week, we started shooting STRIKE TEAM EIDOLON. We did a really cool fight scene and went out and got some footage of a rifles shooting to add a little realism. Pretty stoked about that!

Funny Books continues to take shape…we are all working LONG hours on it, trying to get it ready.

We also want to welcome new members of the Twitchy Team:

Sabrina Gremmel has already jumped out of the frying pan working on all THREE of the new Scarlet Waters shorts as part of the makeup / FX department.

Tim Daniel has jumped into the pod as out new sound designer.

And John Intrieri has joined as part of the camera department and has already been a DP on two of the Scarlet Waters shorts.

We are really excited to have these guys on board!

Current mood:  awake

Franky D here to ring in the new year. That's Frank Dertals to those that aren't in the know.

Does the title sound "myspace" enough? hope so because it has everything to do with this sentence. AND luckily nothing to do with the rest of the post.

I feel as if I haven't allowed you the chance to listen to me lately. I apologize myspace. But luckily you can put your little black book away, we aren't breaking up. I'm here once again to post another Dert Blog.

So Twitchy is getting ready to shoot another short. Any surprise there? Didn't expect so. BUT this one is different. It's about cults and terror, and there is blood and tents and women in showers.....OOOK so there are some things that never change.

We actually got started a few days ago. We drove out to Roger Texas...aka Bumble Fuck Texas, pop. 25 counting 3 dogs and a horse. What could possibly be out there that is worth the drive. I would love to let you know. I can't of course, because then I would blogging about facts and real stories. Who wants that.

Fine.

I'll let you know the full story.

Next time......when I begin the 8 part blog series Strike Team Eidolon colon the Blog.
