COCKED N' LOADED

On "Vicious Cockfight" 2008:
"Cocked N' Loaded are quickly emerging as top cock in the Boston rawk scene. Of course, I'm not actually from Boston, but I've got plenty of people there hedging my bets, and frankly, CN'L are ruffling all the right feathers, scoring a big knockout by pecking apart the rest of the best (past and present), like Cracktorch, Rock City Crimewave, Roadsaw, and Crash and Burn, so all that's left in the blood and dust is a bloozy mess of crushed beer cans, discarded Camel butts, spent shotgun shells, broken teeth, half-eaten tamales, and a few tears. Sounds like a boss time, don't it?" — Subculture Hero

On 'Ding Dong Doom Baby" 2006:
"Ah, some of that quintessential Boston rawk sound courtesy of the demo-spittin', leg-splittin', by-the-Devil's-side-sittin' Cocked N' Loaded. Their latest 4-song sizzler has all of the sweat n' gristle of other East Coast favorites like Supersoul Challenger, Wild Zero, Motherboar, etc., but mostly its got that Cracktorch cinder block crunch to it, which is a damn good thing because the 'Torch have been put out to pasture and we still need to gorge on red meat. So, here's a big ol' slab of it for you, and with songs like "Out for Blood," "Fight Night," "Snake Charmer," and "I Feel So Awesome (I Should Die)", you're going to have a feast. And when it's done you will feel totally awesome and want to die." — Subculture Hero, Sleazegrinder.com

THE MEN
Photobucket

THE MEN are a rock and roll band from Boston MA, featuring Duggan D (ex- Lost City Angels), Dave Norton (ex- Victory at Sea), J.R. (ex -Sam Black Church), and introducing Nick Nick and Kevie.

THE MEN became a band for one reason and one reason alone: to play enjoyable music without any constraints, egos, or attitudes getting in the way. To play music with other experienced musicians, WHO haven't been jaded by years of touring. To play music with rookies who's musical knowledge may far surpass theirs. To play music they love with all their hearts, for all the right reasons. When The Men play a show, its not playing a show. Its playing a party. And boy do we like to party. And we wanna party with you. The Men are a band because every member of this band truly loves music, and strive to create something that is truly called music . We are The Men, lets do it.

HARRIS
Photobucket

Mike and Matt first met while attending U-Mass Lowell in the Fall of 2000. Their main bond was a love of underground music, from soft indie-rock to hardcore. Both had been in bands in high school and had similar ideas of what they wanted to do with music. Before relocating the band to Boston, the lineup was solidified with the additions of Rob on drums, Jon on guitar, and Jim ..boards.

Three weeks after Jim joined the band, Harris embarked on a three-and-a-half week tour out to California and back armed with a trailer full of equipment, and CD cases filled with albums by the Weakerthans, the Dismemberment Plan, Chisel, At the Drive In, Trans-Am, Drive Like Jehu, Beck, and Refused. Matt ended up with stitches in his head, Jon had all of his valuables stolen, and Mike had killed a buzzard with the windshield of the mini-van. What tour is complete without human and animal sacrifice?

When all was said and done Harris had performed in 23 new cities. Before leaving for another extensive tour, the quintet decided to write sharper, more ambitious material. For a year they tested their new songs in Boston, Providence, New York, and Philadelphia rock clubs, basements, and VFW halls. They soon decided it was time to start tracking for their first full-length release.

"The Light Is Seeping Through The Cracks", the debut full-length album by Boston's Harris, has been in the works since July of 2004. Jon took on the role of engineer and lugged his recording equipment to any dingy basement, country townhouse, or garage that the band could secure long enough to lay wires, set up gear, and play. The end result is the most accurate depiction of the band to date- an entire album of challenging, catchy, and honest songs.

Harris is about to return from their first European tour.

WILD ZERO

Wild Zero is like an old car that still works perfectly. Like the driver's seat that never fails to remember your body's contour, the worn-in, leathery vocals make a comfortable home among a body of electric guitar riffs, dirty bass lines, and unrelenting drums.

Damien's heavy percussion and Dennis Carver's speedy guitar work in "Love Eraser" make for a jerky ride, chalk-full of green lights and rolled-down windows. Lyrics like "I've got a love eraser, and I'm gonna win...'cause I love erasing," solidify the gratifying lead foot attitude tat Wild Zero so successfully injects into every song, And speed demons beware — the pulsating cadre of instruments in "Hike for Beer" will exhilarate you the same way that peeling out of your high school parking lot did back when you were rollin' in the Ford Escort. Listen with Caution. The jury's still put on which hits harder — the high-impact vocals or the pungent electric guitar. Although most songs are between two and three minutes, each one is soaked in vitality.

The band, who names Kiss and AC/DC as influences, say they sound like "hospital birthday parties and a wailing child," just might actually sound more like an engine that's humming all the right vibrations. It makes a lot of noise, but the sounds are just necessary for the whole thing to work. It might bump, grind, and tick a little bit when you're on the highway, but the clatter and clang symphony is what makes the machine more than just a vehicle. - Andrea Mooney, The Northeast Performer

THE ASTHMATICS

New England has given the punk world many of it’s essentials such as Dropkick Murphys, The Queers and The Mighty Mighty Bosstones. But has also kept one of the best underground and unsigned communities in the nation. So many great bands have emurged from these roots, of Boston dive-bars, Granite State VFW halls, small clubs and coffee shops. Who will be the next band to hold this tradition but still break through the same old-same old? In my opinion it’s a snide lyrical, fist pumping garage band from New Hampshire: The Asthmatics!

DEADLY SINS

Drawing on a diverse set of talent, the Deadly Sins emerge as a fresh voice in the long-standing Boston punk rock scene. The band's formation at the start of 2006, marks the fusion of a group with already established roots in the music world. The group was founded by lead vocalist Stephanie Dougherty and guitarist Billy Brown. Stephanie, known for her work with the Dropkick Murphy's, has recorded with artists such as Roger Miret & the Distasters, the Lost City Angels, and also appeared on the Dropkicks hit single "the Dirty Glass". She has been touring with the Dropkicks since 2002, appearing on live television and stages all across the world. In 2005, Stephanie and Billy began working together on the Deadly Sins, where Billy leads on guitar and splits some of the vocal duties with Stephanie. Billy formed the punk rock and roll band Crash and Burn in the late 90's, releasing three full-length records and touring extensively. After calling it quits in 2005, Bill brought along fellow Crash and Burn bandmate Joe Packard to the Deadly Sins on bass.

Brendan, on guitar, is most known for his involvement in the Boston hardcore band Reach the Sky who, after two full-length records and six years of touring the world, decided to retire in 2003. After four years behind the scenes, he decided it was time to take another stab at band life, joining the Deadly Sins with long time friend Stephanie. Nathan Bice, on drums, has spent most of the past few years touring throughout the US and Europe for the Chicago-based band, Even In Blackouts, as well as making appearances as a studio engineer and drummer for bands like The Queers and The Generics.

Working off a combined background of touring and their dedication to making music, the Deadly Sins have had the opportunity to tour and share the stage with a number of great bands, including the Dropkick Murphy's, The Aggrolites, The Briggs, and Darkbuster. They have just completed a full-length record, engineered and co-produced by Dean Baltulonis (Hold Steady, Bouncing Souls, Sick of it All), that showcases the unique sound of the band, which is a combination of the different musical experiences of each member. Fresh off of a US tour opening for the Dropkick Murphy's, the Deadly Sins are looking forward to a busy summer of shows and the anticipated release of their full-length record.

ROCK CITY CRIMEWAVE

Rock City Crimewave was formed in the dark days of 1998, rising from the ashes of legendary Boston greaserbilly band 8 Ball Shifter. Ian "EEE" Adams cut his impossibly sharp teeth on. 8 Ball Shifter's garage punk/rockabilly sound and their affection for low-brow culture which seamlessly carried over into Rock City Crimewave, only RCCW upped the ante with Detroit styled motor-scorch (think MC5 and the Stooges) and even tossed in some 60's pop and R&B to sweeten the deal. Live shows were legendary, shambolic, violent and fun as hell, and Rock City Crimewave rose to the top of the local rock heap. There were a few singles dropped along the way, as well a split EP with thunderboogie kings Lamont, and three full-length CDs, ("Sounds from the Underworld" (2001), "Sealed With a Curse" (2003), and "Infinite Midnight" (2006)). The band has also shared stages with L7, the Dictators, Mudhoney, the MC5, and the Black Halos, among others over the years. Frontman E Adams is also an accomplished graphic artist and cartoonist, and his signature artwork has provided the band's releases and merchandise with an instantly recognizable look, one rife with go-going ghouls, vampire brides, and hot rods from Hell. Coupled with their penchant for writing songs aboutwell, ghouls, vampires, and hellish hot rods, and you just might get the crazy notion that Rock City Crimewave is a horror rock band. Don't lump 'em in with the generic ghoulpunk crowd, though. Sure, they're as creepy as a party clown in a porn flick, but that's more of a collective personality quirk than a band philosophy. Junky old b-movies with boobs, fangs, and Vincent Price are some of their biggest inspirations, but let us not forget lust, jealousy, and an insatiable thirst for revenge. Against who? You never know. Better stay on their good side.

WILD ZERO

No Offense to Green Day, but its music doesn't punch you in the throat and laugh about it. This is a good thing. The local quintet plays metallic punk that unites hooks and hardcore under the banner of biker-bar rock.
The lyrics follow suit with generational themes songs about beer, getting getting high and chicks that mess you up.
—  II-EP review, The Boston Herald

"Harking back to the ear-bleeding aural attack of Boston's Bullet Lavolta, Wild Zeros debut is a search-and-destroy blitzkrieg of punk- damaged (read: fast and snarling) hard rock. It also has the unique
distinction of being the last album recorded at New Alliance studios infamous Boylston Street location which may or may not have something to do with the balls-out energy and attitude that this album oozes in
spades. The fiery results speak for themselves, and in this case, the music really does do the talking. This is no-holds-barred testostorock for the PBR-swilling tattooed maniac in all of us. — Northeast Performer
