Dead Noise & WD4D join forces for their debut instrumental release, the After School EP1. The name derived from weekly meetings which they jokingly dubbed After School Club; an opportunity for the two beat makers (and others) to exchange techniques & collaborate on new music.
Both artists have production credits for a handful of hip hop releases. Dead Noise contributed beats to Khingz' "From Slaveships to Spaceships" (Fresh Chopped Beats / MADK) & Kail's "True Hollywood Squares" (NinjaTune / Big Dada) albums. WD4D's full length effort in 2005, "Some Assembly Required" featured mc's Awol One & Exist (Shapeshifters) amongst other vocal talents, plus a variety of his signature instrumentals.
This new release is the progression of sounds you may have heard from these two in the past. Electronic influences becoming more apparent & mc guest spots no longer present. These new tracks stand on their own as spaced out, futuristic odes to the hip hop these two producers were raised on. Dj friendly & ready to find their way into your playlist, this is music for those in the know / now!
These tracks should definitely appeal to fans of Daedelus, Madlib, Prefuse 73, Nosaj Thing, SA-RA, & Glitch Mob amongst others.

Matson on MusicMusic news, concert reviews, analysis and opinion by Seattle Times music writer Andrew Matson. November 9, 2009 at 4:30 PM Seattle's WD4D and Dead Noise make waterlogged, instrumental glitch-hop for art galleriesPosted by Andrew Matson "2GOOD2B" Seattle DJs WD4D and Dead Noise have created an instrumental work called "After School EP1," and "2GOOD2B" is far and away the best song on it.The vocal sample on "2GOOD2B" is a nice mini-sweep, which I think is what one goes for when one makes glitchy dance music, and the constant sound of water droplets fits with the present season. The song perhaps marks the Northwest's recognition of Scotland's recognition of Timbaland's former genius, or perhaps not. But it definitely seems like something one might hear at an art gallery.

The Stranger
Up & Coming 11/10/09 This Week's Noteworthy Shows and Parties
WD4D, Dead Noise, DJ Introcut, Hideki, Sean Cee(Lo-Fi Performance Gallery) Local DJ/producer WD4D (Waylon Dungan) has been grinding fine and often at Lo-Fi, Grey Gallery, and in opening slots on choice bills around town, while also DJing for Gabriel Teodros and THEESatisfaction. Joining him on the bill is fellow Seattleite Dead Noise, who's made beats for Khingz's From Slaveships to Spaceships and Kail's True Hollywood Squares (Big Dada). Tonight is the release party for After School EP1 (Fourthcity), which sports three cuts from each producer. Dead Noise and WD4D dwell in hiphop's more scientific and spiritual hoods while allowing room for whimsy and, of course, a daring, sampledelic funkiness. These MC-free pieces stretch out and luxuriate in an eccentric creativity that adds yet more credence to the argument that Seattle's hiphop scene is scaling a new peak. DAVE SEGAL

Tuesday, Nov. 10 2009 @ 4:13PM Every Tuesday for five years now, the Lo-Fi Performance Gallery has presented Stop Biting, a laid-back salon of hip-hop where a rotating cast of local DJs take up two rooms for break dancers and MCs to freestyle and riff off the music. One of the stalwarts of Stop Biting has been DJ WD4D, who also holds down a weekly residency every Friday at Grey Gallery; one of the town's most eclectic DJs, he blends old school hip-hop, dubstep, soul and glitch, even playing with that sparse electro-distortion those young jerk kids could gig to. He's collaborated with Dead Noise (who most recently provided production for Khingz' From Slaveships to Spaceships) to put outAfter School EP1, where each provides three tracks for their first all-instrumental debut. Tonight's Stop Biting, which also features DJs Hideki, Sean Cee andIntrocut, is the EP release party, and will feature a live set by WD4D and Dead Noise.Cover is $5 and things kick off at around 10 PM. If you can't make it out tonight, the EP is available online here, where you can listen to previews of the feature tracks. Glitch on.

So I've got some new, some old, & some unreleased tunes for you to check out. The After School EP1 w/ Dead Noise is now done (available very soon). I uploaded my 3 songs from that release, plus a couple from the "In Fere" project I worked on in 2006. The "In Fere" songs are some really moody, melancholy stuff that I made w/o the use of samples. A collaboration with a classically trained opera singer, a harpist, & an interpretive dancer. Some video of the performance if you're curious In Fere: Act 2. This is actually some of the best footage I have of myself scratching (about 3:15 into the clip). The rest of the songs you may have heardalready on my first album "Some Assembly Required". Enjoy these selections for now & look for more in the near future!
