Hope every one is having a great December and holiday season.  Lots of exciting things are in the works here.

First off, we have a new "widget" you can add to your myspace pages and other sites to keep up with our schedule, news, videos and more.  check it out by viewing our profile, add it to your own and help spread the word on us hill country honky tonkers!

Looks like we'll be hitting the studio for album 5 in early 2008, so keep an ear out for that.

Although we've been taking it light in December, January will hold plenty 'o' opportunities to catch us live!  Be sure and check out the updated calendar.  And don't forget, LB is teaching dance lessons out at Riley's in Hunter, they start up again Jan. 8th and will be every Tuesday after that from 6:30-8:30 pm.

Also, fingers crossed, we'll be making an appearance in France again this summer.  More info on that hopefully soon.

Thanks for all your support in 2007 and for making "Lone Star Girl" such a success.  We hope you all have a grand holiday and happy new year!

Howdy Folks,

We've had a few weeks off and sure has been nice to rest up and get some business taken care of.  I would like to start out by letting everyone in S.A. know that if you see the lovely Miss Lauren Jane from Spank Sinatra around town - please take a moment to congratulate her - she's graduating this Saturday!

The local press has been taking extra good care of us in the past week's, check out what folk's have been saying:

Alrighty, back to the music.  We're out of town this weekend down in Crystal Beach (a ferry ride away from Galveston).  It's our fourth consecutive year to be playing the Texas Crab Fest, and we always look forward to it.  Crawfish Etouffe!  Funnel Cake!  Boudain!  LB will be in cajun heaven!  Plus, she'll be surrounded by her family.  So if you're in the beach area, swing on by for good eats and great music all weekend long!  The festival runs Fri - Sun, and we play on Saturday early in the day - click on the website link for a complete festival schedule.

Glad you asked.

We've jumped back in to practicing a lot, we've got some interesting new sounds planned for the upcoming months, just you wait, yessiree.  Some new songs, Brian playin more steel guitar, Tomcat playin harmonica and a bit of acoustic, Rich slappin that bass, and *gasp* , Lil' Bit playin some mandolin.

Okay, enough talking about myself in the third person...

In the meantime, we've got a great schedule coming up.

Tomorrow - Casbeer's with Billy Bacon & The Forbidden Pigs, showtime 8 pm.  We played with these guys about 2 years ago and it was awesome, the guitarist stands on his head while playing still!  Silver Fox this Sat. Feb. 25th - what an interesting mix of people this place has, come check it out, 9:30 pm.

Wed March 1st - Honky Tonk Wednesdays at Red Rum- our first time at Red Rum.  The Lonesome Heroes will play at 9, and we go on round 11.

Next weekend is the big Hill Country Hillbilly Jamboree Weekend - at least that is what I've decided to call it.  I'm bouncin' off the walls about it really, and with good reason:

Fri March 3rd - Gruene Hall w/ Two Tons of Steel - I look up to these guys like they were my big brothers.  They used to get me up to do a few songs with them years ago before I had my own band, and though I was nervous as hell (and quite frankly, perty darn bad)- the experience helped cement my desire to get out there and pursue this type of music.  And come one, its Gruene Hall.  Come dance and feel the floor bounce from the weight of the people, there's nothing like it.  We'll be kicking off the night round 7:30 or 8, followed by Two Tons at 9:30ish.  I believe they might be blocking off the front row for hot rods to park, but I'm not sure so check ahead with Gruene.

Sat March 4th - The Limelight w/ Sean Reefer & The Resin Valley Boys - I can't remember how I found out about this band, maybe they emailed, maybe I came across them here on the "space".  All I know is that as soon as I heard the music I was hooked.  I brought the few songs I have of theirs on our last tour and played them for everyone.  I've been working with their guitarist Johnny for like, half a year now, trying to get them up here in SA for a show.  Finally, succcess!  This is a rockin' honky tonkin' outfit from Houston with some of the best original material I have heard in years.  This is gonna be a must-see show!  Oh yeah, it's also a birthday partyin' night for the Lovely Miss Lauren Jane of Spank Sinatra - so let's tear it up hillbilly style!  Showtime is 9 pm.

Thanks to everyone who voted for us in the Texas Music Awards by the way.  We really appreciate it.  One more month till the winners are announced, so keep your fingers crossed!  Maybe our third year of being nominated will be the lucky one!

Jen "Lil' Bit" Adams could very well be the Mighty Mite of the rockabilly scene. The diminutive gal's big voice is punchy, in a classic Patsy Cline sort of way. Luckily, the energy of the band's live performances carries to their latest CD, Whiskey Nights. "Red Hen Hop" struts, while "Free and Fairly Sober" is a dead-on honky tonk weeper. Add a saucy flamenco guitar in "No More," and you've officially broadened what a typical rockabilly-slash-swing album brings to the table. Bassist Tomcat Miller joins Lil' Bit on vocals for many songs, which proves to be a nice diversion, and lead guitarist Brian Duarte throws on his fancy pants for "Stampede," a testament to guitar artistry that has to be seen to be believed. Luckily, you can see them. They're in town this week.

Playing Around: 4/7/05

Jen "Lil' Bit" Adams is a deceptive lil' gal. Before she and her band, the Customatics, started up a recent set at Tony's, Adams was seen perched on a barstool playing video trivia. When the time for rockin' drew nigh, she nonchalantly hopped off her seat, took off her coat and commenced to completely wow listeners. Backed by her talented band (including Tomcat Miller on upright bass, Brian Duarte on guitar, and Dave Crisci on drums), Lil' Bit belted out true-blue rockabilly and honky-tonk tunes in a clear voice that would do Patsy Cline proud. That the group hails from Texas will be enough to draw some folks in for the show, but it's their classic 1950s-era sound that will make audiences want to jump up and get boogying. Or, perhaps, weep into their beer. It's that kind of music.

"Here's a new CD from a San Antonio, Texas group with a totally refreshing sound! A quartet with the basic original rockabilly sound of acoustic guitar, lead electric guitar, upright bass and vocals, they preserve the original edge of country music that lead to the rockabilly sound. We have really enjoyed their shows the few times we got to see them up here in Seattle. Most of the 13 tunes on Whiskey Nights are original, either written by singer Lil' Bit Adams, or bass player Tomcat Miller. Lead guitarist Brian Duarte also is featured on his own instrumental 'Stampede'. I really like his playing, which suits this band perfectly, and he also plays a little steel! The covers come from the Louvin Brothers (Red Hen Hop) and Reno & Smiley (Country Boy Rock n' Roll). Everything has a laid back feel, which is why I said refreshing up above. So many bands feel the need to our rock everybody else, and lose important aspects of life and music from the 50s. We all like to rock too, but it's nice to do it in a more relaxed fasion some of the time. I really like this band, and I like their new CD a lot too!
They do tour around, so take the opportunity to see them live if you have the chance! And whether you do or not, pick up the CD, I think it'll have you dancing around the kitchen, or wherever you happen to listen. Unless you're the type who needs music to pund on you a lot harder to move you. You know who you are. I like to be hit as hard as the Blasters hit, for example, sometimes, but I often crave the mellower approach that typified much music at the beginning edge of rockabilly."
