Kiel Week is an annual sailing event (since 125 years) with a 10 days cultural program including music on 30 or more stages, mostly local bands and international folklore, but also some top acts. Sunday 17th, 10.00 p.m. we saw Jethro Tull. Ian Anderson's voice is not that fresh as it was when he started his career, but he is a magic flutist with a very fine backing group. Aqualung in a pretty jazzy version was one of the highlights and all the hits we know, were played. Great version of Bernstein's America with solos by all members of the band and foot stomping encore: Locomotive Breath, great evening with stable weather – we had rain before. Last night Germany's Rockband No. 1 BAP played and they first apologized, that they were only allowed to play 90 minutes (huge program - strictly planned schedule) and called it a short soundcheck, because normal Shows of BAP are 3 hours and more. Great guitarwork of Helmut Krumminga, torturing his strat, telecaster, S75 and Les Paul. Encore: Wahnsinn (Colognian version of Wild Thing) and Waschsalon (=self service laundry) an old big hit of BAP, rock'n'roll flavoured. Unfortunately I missed the Henrik Freischlader Band, depending on the visit of old friends, I had not met for years. Hope some one will repost that CD we had on old board. Preview to Sunday 24th: Manfred Mann's Earth Band – They played at Kiel Week before, I think it was 2003 or 4 and I was there and I will be there on Sunday, because that last concert was a great show with a very long, very nice version of Mighty Quinn, I think it was nearly 20 minutes version, which forced the audience to scream for more, but there's no chance at Kiel Week, because of the schedule.
