Category: Music

Greetings Scandinavian friends,

Some bad news for you all - On the eve of our latest visit to your lovely countries, disaster has struck for The Scaramanga Six – Our singer/guitarist Paul Morricone has injured his back and has been advised by both his doctor and physiotherapist not to travel, let alone perform for the next couple of weeks. We are all completely gutted to have to cancel our trip to Sweden/Denmark this week – none more so than our Paul. Our sincerest apologies to any of you who were planning to come and see us over the next few days.

Current mood:  betrayed
Hello you,

What a week! Having just returned from a fantastic voyage to Nordic lands, The Scaramanga Six can happily reveal that Denmark ROCKS. A real pleasure to get over there and a warm welcome to all our new Danish friends (and enemies).

Now, time for another instalment in the continuing saga of Huddersfield’s premiere evil pop group – read on for details of another imminent journey to Scandinavia, another high-class promo video for your eyeball-pleasure and a link to our very own Paul Morricone’s acoustic alter-ego Myspazz page…….

1. BRAND NEW ‘BACK TO SCHOOL’ VIDEO

You would think we wouldn’t have much time on our hands, what with the recent gigging frenzy – but we have found time to make not one, but TWO brand new promo videos in the last few months. In the last newsletter I pointed you towards the excellent ‘Misadventure’ – Now, we proudly present a visual feast for another track off the ‘Songs of Prey’ album – BACK TO SCHOOL.

‘Back to School’ has been filmed, directed and edited by Ash Pears & Richy Lloyd for the incredibly busy ASH TV Production company – a top notch job they have done, I trust you’ll agree. Watch as a balls-out performance by The Six is transmitted via a mysterious DIY time machine to the dismay and ultimate pain of a garden shed inventor. Enjoy it here on YouTube and don’t forget to leave your comments as usual!:

Skill Collins!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

2. PEACE & LOVE FESTIVAL/GIGS COMING UP

It gives us great pleasure to announce our return to the magnificent PEACE & LOVE Festival in Borlange, Sweden. In only a couple of weeks, we’ll be heading off again on a jet plane to Scandinavian shores to re-live the glory of two years ago where we did our very first ever gig abroad. We hope that this time we get the same wonderful welcome and also get stuffed full of herring and Swedish schnapps.

The Six will be playing the main beer tent near the camping area at 11pm on the opening night of the festival:

WEDNESDAY 24th JUNE – The Peace & Love festival, BORLANGE, SWEDEN

Go here for the full line-up and more details (don’t think we’re on the line-up page yet, but will be soon) – I’ve been told that the festival has doubled in size in the last couple of years, so this should be utterly mental:

Other gig news:

First up, our sincere apologies for anyone in the North-West this weekend – we have had to cancel our proposed show at The Mad Ferret in Preston on Saturday. Rest assured, we will be back to this marvellous venue at some point in the future.

Others coming up:

SATURDAY 20th JUNE – The Parish, HUDDERSFIELDA very special hometown coupling of us and our bumchums Eureka Machines. This is going to be a BELTER.

See you there

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

3. PAUL MORRICONE ON MYSPACE

Long time brother of mine and joint head-honcho of The Scaramanga Six, Paul Morricone, has been doing a handful of solo acoustic gigs recently. Mainly to air some new songs, but partially to give an outlet to some older tunes that have never made it to the band, our Paul wields an acoustic guitar and a belting set of lungs which he uses to devastating effect. Don’t expect any lame renditions of ‘Hallelujah’ or any faux-folky childish mumblings that pervade most turgid acoustic nights from our Paul – No siree, this is full-on crooning in the Pitney/Walker/Jones vein with material as deep and stirring as the Marianas trench. He’s on the lookout for some gigs too, so please get in touch if you can help.

With a crap tape recorder, he’s only gone and recorded a bunch of these songs and put them up on Myspace – Enjoy:

Could this be pointing to a new direction for The Six? Hmm…..

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

4. T-SHIRTS AGAIN + PAYPAL NEWS

In the last missive, I announced our brand new T-shirts that depict the name of The Six under a festival of tentacles. They have been selling like the proverbial hot cakes – so much so that we’ve ordered another batch. Apologies to those of you still waiting – we will have them with you in the next week or so. As well as the blood-red variety, we have now added a jet-black variation to the range.

For the foreseeable, please go to our band website or that of our label alter-ego Wrath Records:

Speaking of which, the band website has just been given a bit of style overhaul – let us know what you think!

OK, that’s it.
Cheers,
Steve

Saturday, June 13, 2009
Hello you,

Hope you are having a splendid bank holiday weekend. Much hectic busyness has been the order of the day in the camp of THE SCARAMANGA SIX – West Yorkshire’s finest (perhaps only) exponents of evil pop noir. We’ve been up and down the country in our swish new ex-ambulance (replaces the beloved old Post Office van – long may she sail) actually rocking the socks off people as far and wide as the Westcountry, West Midlands, Surrey and back up to northern climes. All this to promote the bum off our brand new studio album ‘Songs of Prey’, which as you all know is OUT NOOOOOW.

Not ones to rest on our collective laurels, we now bring you a gigantic crop of NEWS relating to the band who slay when they play. Read on for details of album news, T-shirts, a few astounding visual treats and some other stuff. It’s a gurt biggun alright…….

1. ASTOUNDING ‘MISADVENTURE’ VIDEO

First up, some visual treats with which to give your sorry eyeballs a much-needed festival of fun. We’ve recently been engaged in making a brace of new promo vids for tracks off ‘Songs of Prey’ and the first one is ready and raring to go.

‘Misadventure’ has been designed, directed, composited and edited by Greig Johnson of Eclectic Schlock Productions – and what a sterling job he’s done. It’s an antiquated crime drama featuring a myriad of still shots made to look like a flicker book. Mysterious indeedy! – enjoy it here on YouTube and don’t forget to leave your comments!:

Also, The Scaramanga Six now have their own official channel on ‘VIMEO’ where you can watch all the previous promo videos collected together in much higher quality than you get on YouTube. Drop by, check them right out and subscribe while yer at it:

One more visual thingy – recently we were asked to give permission to use one of our very old tracks ‘Too Cool For Skool’ (from the ‘Strike! Up The Band’ album) as the backing music for a demonstration video for the bizarre Japanese skill toy, the ‘Kendama’. In these times where technology is king, it’s really refreshing to see a new playground craze spreading that’s based around a variation of cup & ball (hang on – the ball’s fallen out of the cup, but wait – it’s OK: the ball is on a string attached TO the cup!) and the guys in this video can do some barmy tricks with some equally barmy names. Ch-ch-ch check it out:

Thanks to ‘The Void’ who attended one of our recent gigs and ceremoniously presented us with our very own Kendama – ruddy addictive it is I can tell you.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

2. GIGS COMING UP

Appreciation in excelsis to everyone who has been to our gigs over the past few weeks – it’s been lovely to see you all and a pleasure to rock you silly. We still have a load of dates coming up mind, the most pressing of which is a real extravaganza down in London town next weekend:

SATURDAY 30th MAY – The Dublin Castle, LONDON
Bugbear Presents:
EUREKA MACHINES
SHUSH
THE LOYALTIES
THE SCARAMANGA SIX
Doors: 7:30pm, Price: £6/£5 with flyer

This is going to be a top notch do – our good friends and label-mates Eureka Machines are topping the bill. Anyone who hasn’t seen them will not realise that they are the single most entertaining powerful pop combo in the world right now. Joining on the bill are fantastic London-based rock troupe Shush, featuring Milena from Anti-Product and excellent punksters The Loyalties.

Special note: The band that has 6 albums and over a decade of rock experience are ON FIRST – that’s us in case you were wondering. The Scaramanga Six will be hitting the stage at 8PM sharp. Make sure you get down there nice and early to catch us, and also make sure you stay all night to witness the whole of this magnificent bill.

Facebook members can find the flyer to print off for cheap entry here:

Those of you on our London list, I have attached a flyer for your convenience too.

The next thing for us after the trip down to London is a couple of marvellous gigs in Denmark then some more weekenders around the UK:

THURSDAY 4th JUNE – Huset, COPENHAGEN, DENMARK

FRIDAY 5th JUNE – Musiccafeen, AARHUS, DENMARK

SATURDAY 13th JUNE – The Mad Ferret, PRESTON

SATURDAY 20th JUNE – The Parish, HUDDERSFIELD

More gig news coming up including some more special trips over to Scandinavian shores – watch this space!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

3. SONGS OF PREY – NOW AVAILABLE FROM US

Many many thanks to everyone who supported the independent shops and distributors by pre-ordering ‘Songs of Prey’ and by actually going in and handing your cash over the counter. We all really appreciated it. Figures have been looking good thus far – which has been matched by the deluge of buyers direct from us at the recent speight of gigs.

For those of you who have not yet obtained this musical marvel, we have now put up the obligatory Paypal links to buy direct from us on our Website, Myspace and label site. Each order will come to you in double-quick time loving stuffed into a recycled jiffy bag by my bad self. Check out the Paypal links here:

SPECIAL OFFER: Not much I know, but if you buy the album direct from us we will throw in a set of exclusive Songs of Prey badges! This offer is not limited to album sales – if you’ve got a copy already and want these pins, then please drop me an email and I’ll send you some.

Many excellent plaudits from the press are cropping up for the album now. Here are some highlights to help sway you:

"Intense distillation of complex rock opera from these Leeds perfectionists" - CLASSIC ROCK

"the ambition of The Who, the progressive end of The Kinks, Traffic, Roxy and maybe if they hadn’t bitten the hand that feeds so much.... A big rock beast that manages to somehow sound ambitiously 70’s, post New Wave 80’s and a little more now all at the same time – timeless then"ORGAN

"The Scaramanga 6 continue to dispense controlled doses of volume and wired post punk thrills, which ensure that this album gets a series of on-going spins, even if it does attempt to throw the listener from wall to wall." - MANCHESTER MUSIC

"For those who have not yet heard the band, it's a good opportunity to get straight into the swaggering essence of Huddersfield's finest. These sacrilegious "Songs of Prey" do seem to insist on being played at neighbourhood threatening volume. Praise be." - WHISPERIN' & HOLLERIN’

"Loads of passion, loads of noise, and with a dedication to just bloody enjoying themselves and making as much of a fraught, angry racket as they fancy. Rock fans who find a lot of the current crop sadly lacking should definitely investigate." - LEEDS GUIDE

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

4. FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER – T-SHIRTS!

That’s right – for the first time, we’ve done a proper run of T-shirts depicting the name of The Six in amongst a blood-red tentacle fest. About ruddy time too! They are available in many figure-hugging sizes, but we are low on stock with some sizes as they have been shifting really well at gigs. No fear – if you order a size that is out, we will be putting in a new order this week and can have you the goods very soon after that – that’s a rock promise!

And you can buy them for £10 a pop (plus P+P) via Paypal links on the Scaramanga Six website and Myspace as well as the Wrath Records website. It’s a dyslexic fashion statement!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

5. THE SCARAMANGA SIX ON SPOTIFY

Finally, just a quick one to say that not only the whole back catalogue of The Scaramanga Six, but also most other releases on the marvellous Wrath Records label have now found themselves onto the SPOTIFY application database. I’m not 100% on how this all works, but it does mean to you can try before you buy and also help promote the label’s releases in ways that I’m sure you’ll know how. Check it out and very happy listening!

That’s yer lot.
Cheers,
Steve

Huddersfield, West Yorkshire harbours a dark secret – a brooding cess pit of malevolence and intrigue all wrapped up in a behemoth of ROCK POWER. This, my friends, is what The Scaramanga Six are – an evil pop group, lurking and ready to pounce on the ears of the unsuspecting. Led by the infamous Morricone Brothers, Steven and Paul, The Scaramanga Six have been ploughing their stubborn furrow for well over a decade now – time has honed their powers to an almost ninja-like aural assault.

Songs of Prey’ is actually the band’s sixth studio album, however only the fifth to be released – its predecessor still lies unfinished awaiting the return to health of their long-time cohort and producer Tim Smith (Cardiacs). This new album has been recorded and produced by Gentleman James Kenosha, who’s other recent work includes marvellous records by Duels, Grammatics, This Et Al and Pulled Apart By Horses. In ‘Songs of Prey’, The Six have slimmed down to a four-piece and in doing so have taken a much more sparse and bleak approach to arrangement and songwriting, than was evident on their last album release – the critically acclaimed and hyper-glamorous monster ‘The Dance of Death’

Nearly an hour’s worth of 12 astonishing songs and 2 incidental instrumentals make up this latest offering taking the band into more contemporary post-rock leanings, as well as heightening the bombast and pomposity that fans of the band have come to know so well. A classic and intricate new direction in artwork has been taken by Kev at ‘This is Make Believe’, featuring a woodcut-style nautical sleeve image of the legendary Kraken’s tentacles. The album is presented in rough stock Digipack format with a 16-page booklet bursting with lyrics, imagery and loads of beautiful photos courtesy of Paul and David at ‘Not Photography’. We’re totally chuffed with the way the whole thing has turned out - We think you will like it too!

##### HOT NEWS #####

You can sneakily hear a quartet of tracks from the new album on this here Myspace page RIGHT NOW! Please chew them over and let us know what you think – we’d love to see your comments

Keep your ears peeled also for more dates as and when they crop up – we are looking forward to a summer (and beyond) that will include a string of dates/festivals across Scandinavia, as well as a jaunt to Ireland soon.

Press/radio coverage news for Songs of Prey will also be reported as they happen – you can really help us out here by emailing/contacting you favourite publications for opinion/review and radio shows asking them to feature tunes from the new album. This kind of support really seems to work and lordy, we need your help!

OK, thanks for listening

Wrath Records/The Scaramanga Six

Current mood:  aroused

Hello you,

News ahoy from the home of skill that is Wrath Records on Huddersfield's most infamous evil pop combo, THE SCARAMANGA SIX……

RETURN OF THE SIX

All has seemingly been quiet in the world of The Scaramanga Six over the last few months. The release of recent single 'Walking Through Houses' earlier this year was due to be a precursor to the bands' fifth studio album 'A Pound Of Flesh' but changing circumstances have conspired against the release and The Six had fallen temporarily silent. On a very serious note, our long term cohort and producer Tim Smith nearly left us this summer. Tim suffered a severe cardiac arrest which left him fighting for his life. The news was a dreadful shock to people, especially to his many close friends. Tim is now starting out on a long road to recovery and we can only wish him and everyone close to him the greatest of strength and resolve in this very difficult time. If love alone is all that is needed for recovery there is certainly no shortage for Tim. With this in mind, we decided to postpone work on 'A Pound Of Flesh' for the near future. We will return to it one day when Tim is better.

Recent live performances have also been scant for The Scaramanga Six. The appearance at this year's Hove Festival in Norway was the last for the foreseeable for multi-talented Chris Catalyst who is now focusing all his efforts on his very wonderful new band Eureka Machines. We can't thank Chris enough for his excellent keyboard hammering, percussive interjections and the odd bit of tromboning over the last few years and you can catch him with Eureka Machines in all his glory right now (while you're at it, buy their new album 'Do or Die' on Wrath now!). www.eurekamachines.co.uk / www.myspace.com/eurekamachines

So in these last few dark rainy months, The Scaramanga Six have not been content to lie down and be beaten. Now as a four-piece we have been recoiling and fashioning a new aural arsenal. In the next couple of weeks The Scaramanga Six start recording the sixth studio album with a slew of brand new songs, shiny new guitars, slightly older Casio keyboards and a steely determination to rock harder and deeper than ever before. The music is leaner and every one of us is playing with a rejuvenated clarity. This new album has been written in its entirety and will be recorded and released as quick as the knockout jab of the boxer determined to shake off a flooring in the first round. Watch this space.

The Scaramanga Six will also be appearing very soon to try some of this evil new material out on your unsuspecting ears. From the end of October and throughout November you'll be able to see a fitter, more hungry band ply their musical tirade. Gigs so far:

FRIDAY 24th OCTOBER - Bar 1:22, HUDDERSFIELD

SATURDAY 25th OCTOBER - The Puzzle Hall, SOWERBY BRIDGE

(two sets - the first being entirely brand new and the second featuring favourites.)

FRIDAY 7th NOVEMBER - The Teatime Shuffle, Hi-Fi Club, LEEDS

SATURDAY 8th NOVEMBER - The Parish, HUDDERSFIELD

(The Morricone Brothers' double birthday celebration!)

THURSDAY 27th NOVEMBER - The Dry Bar, MANCHESTER

FRIDAY 28th NOVEMBER - The Riverside, SELBY

SATURDAY 29th NOVEMBER – The Vintage Rock Bar, DONCASTER

We are on the look out for more future gigging opportunities (up and down the UK and abroad!) so if you would like to book us or know of somewhere to play please get in touch right now. The red post office van is primed with nitro and ready to go.

There is some more activity afoot on the recorded front to look out for too. We are busy collating together a live sessions album which will be available on mail order only very soon. The album entitled 'The Hot Flesh Rumble' will feature songs recorded raw and as live by the band for radio sessions over the last few years - gritty versions of songs from all the previous albums as well as the first recorded release of many of the songs from the postponed 'A Pound Of Flesh'. Frightening stuff indeed!

The most recent single 'Walking Through Houses' and album 'The Dance of Death' have also been temporarily reduced in price for our mailing list. Grab the album for just £5 and the single for only £2 right now to avoid our glares asking why you didn't get them when they were first released. Think of it as an amnesty for people who can't be bothered to buy records by bands they like. Do it now and we won't think any less of you. Either go to our Myspace page, website or follow these easy-to-click Paypal links:

https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_s-xclick&hosted_button_id=504412 – 'The Dance of Death' album - £5

https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_s-xclick&hosted_button_id=504379 – 'Walking Through Houses' CD single - £2

https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_s-xclick&hosted_button_id=504243 – 'Walking Through Houses' 7" single - £2

That's it for news. We wish Tim all of our love in the hope of a good steady recovery and we'll see you all very soon.

Sincerely,

The Scaramanga Six

2. ALBUM RELEASE IN SWEDEN/GERMANY

In an unprecedented move for The Scaramanga Six, the new album 'THE DANCE OF DEATH' is to see a proper release in several countries across Europe. This is all extremely exciting news I trust you'll agree.

SWEDEN

Released through our very own Wrath Records and distributed through Border (www.border.se), the album will be released 14/05/07 across Sweden. Many pieces of press and radio coverage have been harvested through the sterling efforts of John and Andreas at Naz Promotions (www.nazpromotions.com) – Reviews appearing in national music papers such as Groove and a wealth of positive web-based coverage that I haven't even a chance of translating. On the radio front, loads of support from the main student stations like THS Student, SRP3 – Kvällspasset, Student Shore 98,6 , Student K103 and Radio Sotenäs. The national stations are starting to take note with plays by the likes of Håkan Persson on Channel P3 Rock.

### HOT NEWS! ###

The band has been confirmed for their first ever overseas date – On SATURDAY 30th JUNE, The Scaramanga Six will take the stage as part of the PEACE & LOVE FESTIVAL, in Borlange, Sweden. This year's Headliners for this remarkable festival include Babyshambles, Alice Cooper and The Stooges. Yes, THE BLOODY STOOGES. What a baays of Scandinavian touring mayhem. Expect more dates up and down Scandinavia later on in the year.

GERMANY/AUSTRIA/SWITZERLAND

Again, on our own Wrath imprint, The Dance of Death also gets a release across the GAS region with distributional and promotional help from OUR Distribution (www.ourdistribution.com). The date is the same – 14/05/07. Lots of coverage news to follow, but the main thing is an article to appear in Rock Hard (www.rockhard.de). Hopefully later on some touring action around Germany will turn up – more news on that to follow.

Meanwhile, in the UK the press have been continuing to shower the album with laudation:

Abi Bliss at the bastion of underground critique, PLAN B MAGAZINE, said:

"The 'band who torture from Yorkshire' trample over musical acceptability with a fourth slab of rock gigantism. Thunderbolt riffs, massed vocals, harpsichord and volcanoes won't get them seated at the smirking kids' table – the sound of not caring just got more epic."

Shane at the ubiquitous UNPEELED elaborated:

"This is, without the tiddliest doubt, the best set of songs The Scaramanga Six have ever let loose, it'll be their most successful or maybe their last. Like all fabbo records, it's a shameless mix of theft, attitude, sweat and inspiration and anyone who can work rawk, punk, pop, country, glam, opera and what sounds suspiciously and deliciously like a Pulp piss-take into the same album is alright by me."

FUNKY AS FUDGE Fanzine expressed this through the mouthpiece of Gareth:

"Each smack of the drum, thrash of the guitar and explosive vocal is purposeful and passionate. The six supply a very appealing, gutsy platter of Northern rock to get your teeth in to. Power and energy galore the band is gripping to watch live and their music is certainly worth spending your hard earned cash."

That sounds like a hint to me…… 'The Dance of Death' is available in the UK through all good record shops, online through the likes of Amazon and direct off Wrath Records (www.wrathrecords.co.uk), not to mention all the leading digital retailers.

PRESS UPDATE:

I have been harping on left, right and centre about all the press/radio coverage we have garnered thus far, so I'll not bore you with endless reca</SPAN>ps. Instead I will give you just one new piece of diatribe courtesy of those gentlemen of good taste, Tom & Nick, of Atomic Duster (www.atomicduster.com) who pretty much sum up the overwhelming reaction from the underground and web-based press on 'The Dance of Death' in the latest edition of their publication:

T: The Scaramanga Six are clearly one of the greatest unsung bands of all time. Let's face it, they've yet to release an album that is less than superb and if they carry on putting out such remarkable music, they ought to have statues of the band erected everywhere to commemorate their brilliance. It brings tears to my eyes that anyone can put a handful of albums full of such unbridled beauty and show no signs of letting up. Of course, the enormity of such singles as "Baggage", with such impassioned vigour, are just the tip of the iceberg. Elsewhere on the album you can taste the macabre, the mad and the mighty, as well as a mystical splendour that once again results in a wonderful album.

N: When The Sc
aramanga Six land on our desk, it's pretty certain what we are to expect, and this opinion has never altered. Like a rollercoaster, but one where the attraction has added that new section of track to confound the thrillseekers. This time round, the Six have plundered rock operas to add new twists and turns to the total package and leave us to emerge breathless from the listening booth. 10/10

Impressive – particularly to hear that they actually went to the effort of building a booth, just to listen to our album. We all need a good booth. So then, what news of coverage in the UK's national press? – Predictably a no show, despite gargantuan hassling efforts. I've a good mind to write to my local MP.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

TESTEMONIALS:

Quite a lot of you have already gotten hold of a copy of 'The Dance of Death' either at the barrage of gigs we've done in the last couple of months or by pre-ordering from the Wrath Paypal shop. We salute and applaud you good people. A percentage of these avid fellows have also been just about bothered to vocalise, enthuse and generally blow our stinking trumpets for us. Here are a series of recent comments that make testimony to the ace-ness of this album, in much the same way that actors pretending to be real people do in TV adverts for washing powder, sanitary towels and 'really creamy' pro-biotic drinks:

"YOU BASTARDS. I can't get 'The Throning Room' out of my head. You've ruined my life." -  says D. Xi of Leeds.

"This album is magnificent, well done, I wear my heart on my sleeve, baggage, helvetica are already engraved into my consciousness, just waiting for the other songs to sink in now. love it." – says D. Bullitz of Leeds.

"It really is an incredible album" – says R. Chapman of Otley, W. Yorks.

"Really digging your stupid f**king record. Listened to it 3 times yesterday and twice this morning, then I did a sex wee" – says S. Gilchrist (Mrs) of London town.

"Belting album, Best yet – good work sirs!" – says C. Saunders of Sheffield

"It cut through my ears like a cheese wire" – says Dr C. Valentino of Northants.

"Everybody should own a copy" – says PsychaDelia Smith, Location unknown.

"Your Song "Baggage" was a success on my school's Radio" – says Justin of Harlow, Essex.

"Sunken Eyes is AMAZING!" – says M. Prometheus of Norwich.

"Dance Of Death is a great album, it hasn't left my stereo since i brought it home" – says Will of Bradford, W. Yorks</SPAN>.

"I OFTEN put on Scaramanga Six albums, particularly when getting ready for a rollicking night out on the

town, but on other occasions also" – says J. Bowden or Bristol.

"Haven't played it yet but I have to say the DoD packaging is top drawer. Who does your artwork?" says J. Bower of Leeds.

So there you have it – as you can see, the reaction has been nothing short of OK. Proof indeed if proof be need be.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current mood:  jubilant

Now then now then,

My brain & stomach have just about recovered from a mind-bending trip to SXSW in Austin, Texas. So then, the lumbering rock juggernaut that is THE SCARAMANGA SIX trundles on like an engine fired with solid kryptonite driven by a demented, demonic version of Fred Dibnah. Only the brave or foolish would stand in its way. Read on for details of the latest aural roadkill in a newsletter so full of links to follow, it could quite easily turn into a chain-mail suit. This is the newsletter that just keeps on giving…..

1. ALBUM RELEASE DATE CHANGE

Now I must apologise to those of you who may be just about to set off on an all-night vigil outside the doors of your local pop record retailer eagerly waiting to get your grubby little hands on one of the first batch of 'The Dance of Death' album to grace the shelves tomorrow. My advice to you is HANG ON – there's no sense in queuing around the block for something that isn't going to be there. That's right, we're doing a 'Playstation 3' on you and we're having to move the release date back a couple of weeks. This is mainly due to some delays in getting stock to our UK distributors, so for those of you who may have ordered the album online through Amazon, HMV.co.uk or the like, I apologise again.

The new release date for The Dance of Death will be: 09/04/07 – tattoo that date onto the inside of your eyelids so you can be reminded of it every time you blink. I'll be back to you soon with details of precipitating retailers.

Those of you with a penchant for digital purchases can now get hold of the album NOW through all the main retailers, such as eMusic (http://www.emusic.com/album/11012/11012434.html) , iTunes, Napster, AOL etc etc etc.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

2. PRESS/RADIO BOMBARDMENT

PRESS:

More rave reviews of the new album than you can shake a stick at have surfaced in the last couple of weeks. It's a real torrent and every one is a belter – pop in your fresh eyeballs as this could be a marathon read:

http://www.studentguru.co.uk/musicguru/cdreviews/scaramangafeb

"They take you to hell and Bacharach - It's mercifully intelligent and has more hooks than a gangster's meat freezer. In short, this is the best and most original album I have heard in a long, long time. British pop seems to be thrashing around and looking for new heroes, but endlessly coming up with tuneless artrock fads, bloated stadium indie or countless new waves of old waves. The Scaramanga Six's combination of cinematic menace and highly focused, edgy pop could change the musical landscape. The Dance of death really is THAT good." – The Music Guru

http://www.whisperinandhollerin.com/reviews/review.asp?id=4548

"this album has put a seal on their musical salvation. Whatever happens to it, or to them, I can feel a wave of excitement and enthusiasm for what Tim Smith has helped them to create here. It's an album to put in the all time favourites box. It's a long time since I played one album so many times in such a short period. 10/10" – Whisperin & Hollerin

"I absolutely LOVE this disc!!! The visual equivalent would be a Rocky Horror after party where someone spiked the punch with acid and people are swinging from the light fixtures, dancing on table tops and throwing things off the balcony. In a nut shell it's Hell's choir gathered to compose 44 minutes of awe inspiring, doom infused, horror rock." – Evil Needles

http://www.leedsmusicscene.net/article/8023/

"If there was a TV cop show set in Medieval England featuring a glam rocker and a punk, transported back in time from the 70's, where their only way to get back home was to solve the unspeakable crimes of the time... this album would be the soundtrack... and you'd bloody love it...5/5" – LeedsMusicScene

http://www.thisisfakediy.co.uk/articles/4494.html

"you'll be rewarded with a wealth of offerings for every emotion and scenario" – This is Fake DIY

http://www.gigwise.com/contents.asp?contentid=28733

"The passion and skill in this CD is palpable in every play. Those who will try to pigeonhole The Scaramanga Six as mock rock darkly humorous Northerners. Think again and listen to this. it's seriously good music. The piano on the opening to 'Towering Inferno' is a thing of beauty by itself. The humour is just a bonus. 'The Dance of Death' takes every little trendy boy and hangs him with his own skinny tie. 4/5" - Gigwise

http://www.vanityproject.co.uk/

"Regal. Chest-out. Commanding. Brash. This is what the Scaramanga Six do. The Six can go off in all sorts of directions, but they retain, even when pummeling, a grace in their movement, as though gliding their partner across a dancefloor cleared by the romantically awed." – Vanity Project

http://www.music-dash.co.uk/releases/release.asp?item=4060

"Just short of eighteen months since "Cabin Fever", The Scaramanga Six have yet another LP with which to frighten small children and small animals. It's a dangerous beast too – the kind that should be muzzled and owned only on special licence. The Scaramanga Six make big albums and "The Dance Of Death" could be their hugest yet. 4/5" – ManchesterMusic

http://www.highvoltage.org.uk/displaydemoreview.asp?num=2357&band=386

"Considerable lyrical strength is emboldened by a vocal strength quite clearly missing from many of the bands cluttering up the establishment press. The Six's apparent no-show in the radar of recognition is quite bizarre. Surely this year should put them centre stage. 4/5" – High Voltage

http://www.uk-fusion.com/content/view/1542/1/

"This dance macabre proves infectious. Only removal of both ears Van-Gogh-style would prevent you from succumbing to the darkly delicious 'Baggage' and explosively simple 'Vesuvius', just two tracks I could have name-checked out of the remaining eight. Some things never change. The Scaramanga Six have produced another tour de force. Shock, and indeed, horror. 4.5/5" – UK Fusion

"Heart-melting harmonies, complex prog-punk melodies, screeching guitars, epic strings and wryly intimate lyrics with more beef than Argentina. In a word, The Dance of Death is 'melody-dramatic', a truly glorious album that captures the essence of 'Six. All that is good about epic music can be found here, very pleasing to the ear." – Sandman Magazine

http://www.diskant.net/reviews/2007/03/scaramanga-six-dance-of-death-cd-wrath.htm

"The final, seven minute mini epic, "The Towering Inferno" is worth the price of admission alone, opening as it does with what can only be described as a Bastard Son Of Jim Steinman hook - you know, augmented pianos swooshing under chandeliers in a heavy storm before the songs explodes into the biggest chorus you think you've ever heard. Buy this album NOW." – Diskant

http://www.indie-mp3.co.uk/2007/03/diagram-of-six-ponys.html

"The Scaramanga Six are one of those delightful bands that refuse to be pigeonholed by moving too fast for you to keep up with - you have an incredibly weird and wonderful album that you really ought to check out." – Indie MP3

"Scaramanga Six have pledged to personally cut out the tongues of anyone that says their melodramatic pomp rock is performed with tongues firmly in cheeks. So as long as we've got tongues in our heads (possibly not that long), we'll tell people to seek out a copy of this eclectic LP, with typically planet-sized ambition that dwarfs all-comers. 4/5" – Leeds Guide

http://www.trakmarx.com/2007_01/25_reviews.htm

"The pace is frenetic throughout, the sarcasm withering, the songs as expansive & ambitious as ever. On "The Dance Of Death", the Scaramangas sound wound up to the point of apoplexy - & it shows. Throughout it all, the group's love of Bowie, Pulp & all things suave are wrapped around the core of this record like a favourite old scarf encasing a soar throat on a particularly chilly winter's morning. Look after The Scaramanga Six for me – pop round & see them from time to time – ring up a bit more often – let them know you care – or before you know it they'll be gone - & you'll be sorry. You don't miss your water till your well runs dry!" – Trakmarx

http://discover.drownedinsound.com/release/view/9554

"Having grown up with the firm understanding that progressive rock = BADDDDD, it takes something pretty damn unique to turn that ingrained theory on its head. The Dance Of Death sounds like 'Bohemian Rhapsody' after being stripped down into ten segments by Kwikfit before each one was rebuilt by a team of three-chord wonders with alarmingly distinctive falsetto voices." – Drowned In Sound

http://www.indigoflow.co.uk/2007/03/12/the-scaramanga-six-the-dance-of-death/

"45 minutes of pure brilliance. The Dance Of Death is their most fluid and most pleasing work to date, making this the perfect time for you to start listening to them" – Indigo Flow

http://www.totalmusicmagazine.com/albumreviews.htm

"Ah the joys of stumbling across something that, on initial listens, sounds not unlike Frank Zappa, Scott Walker, Todd Rundgren, Rocket From The Crypt and The Dawn Of The Replicants all playing at once." – Total Music

RADIO:

Those extremely tasteful people at RADIO 2XS have seen fit to add opening track to the album, 'The Throning Room', into their A-list playlist for last couple of weeks running. Check out their full playlist and have a listen to this excellent station online here:

As if you brain wasn't already pumped full of praise-laden Six rhetoric, here are a couple more pieces of reading that emphasise just how skill we are.

2. UK RELEASE DATE FOR THE DANCE OF DEATH

Oh did I mention that we have a new album out called 'The Dance of Death'? I'm, not sure. Anyway, I'll get straight to the point – the official in-the-shops release date has been put back to 26/03/07ample time for me to wear down your resistance with subtle hints, sneaky jibes and cryptic subliminal messages. Alternatively I could just say 'BUY IT' and lure you in with a pretty picture of the fantastic artwork designed by our good friends at This Is Make Believe (www.thisismakebelieve.co.uk

OK, details of shop availability to follow – physical & digital. For now, there is still opportunity for you to get your copy in advance of this date by pre-ordering straight from us. Just follow this link for Paypal glory:

http://www.wrathrecords.co.uk/produc.htm

You can also get your grubby mitts on </FONT>a copy by hassling ME at any of the gigs mentioned above. A massive thanks for all those who have pre-ordered, and enthused about the album so far – you are doing us a great service (wipes tear from eye).

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

3. PRESS/RADIO COVERAGE THUS FAR

Early days yet of course, but some absolutely passionate opinion has been surfacing already on the new album for some quarters. If you need some convincing to get this album, then check out these incredible essays and diatribes that will undoubtedly sway you:

Whisperin' & Hollerin' – 10/10:

http://www.whisperinandhollerin.com/reviews/review.asp?id=4548

The Music Guru:

http://www.studentguru.co.uk/musicguru/cdreviews/scaramangafeb

Evil Needles:

http://www.evilneedles.com/main/newmusic

Some incredible commentary – and we didn't even bribe any of them. To add to all of that, there have also been a couple of great pieces of radio coverage this week. I already told you about the DIY Lbel of the Week accolade on HUW STEPHENS' BBC Radio One show – it turned out very well and he played 'Baggage' as well as an excerpt from our Tina Turner Love Medley (the full version of which I will put up on Myspace pretty soon for you to vomit over). Huw went on to enthuse about the 80's power ballad "I've waited all my life to play that song" – glad we could be of service Mr Stephens. You can listen back to the show here for the next week or so:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio1/huwstephens/

Also, just this morning the opening track from The Dance of Death, called 'The Throning Room' was played by none other than PHIL JUPITUS on his BBC 6Music Breakfast Show. Upon aural receipt of the track, he was then heard to mumble "That was all over the place – I like it!" Thanks Phil. You can listen back to that here:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/6music/shows/phill_jupitus/

Remember – there is always room in your hectic daily scheduled to lobby your favourite broadcasters to play as much stuff by The Scaramanga Six (or any other Wrath artist for that matter) as is humanly possible. We truly appreciate any hassling you can do on our behalf.

OK, that's it for now…. Or is it?

Cheers,

Steve
