1.) In mid February 2009 the NIU Alumni Association will launch a new feature at www.myniu.com that will provide alumni with the following tools:
a.) Career Search Engine: With the click of a button you will be able to search over 800,000 jobs, including those on Monster.com, hotjobs.com, and ones posted by NIU alumni. ***CALLING ALL NIU ALUMNI EMPLOYEERS***, we are asking that you begin to post any job openings that you have at www.myniu.com beginning in mid February 2009.
b.) Educational Resources: Additionally, this online tool will provide alumni with educational resources on resumes, interviewing, networking, and bettering your skills.
c.) NIU Career Search Groups: This online tool will also allow alumni to form groups by industry to help one another find job leads.

2.) Networking Events: Stay tuned for a list of networking events this spring. Every other month we will host a gathering at a suburban location for alumni network. These networking gatherings are free; we will provide alumni with stickers that say "I know. . . " and "I need . . . ", and alumni may purchase their own food and beverages.

3.) Resume Review by NIU Career Services: The NIU Career Services department offers a free resume review service. Please send your résumé as a Word attachment to: resumes@niu.edu (non-education major) or edresumes@niu.edu (education major).

Independence Bowl 2008

NIU is going bowling!

The NIU Huskies are going "Bowling," and we want you to be part of the excitement! The NIU football team will be traveling to Shreveport, Louisiana to compete against Louisiana Tech in the Independence Bowl on Sunday, December 28. Join fellow Huskie fans in Shreveport for this historic bowl event.

The NIU Alumni Association, in partnership with Huskie Athletic Scholarship Fund (HASF), will be hosting a pre-game tailgate at the Louisiana State Exhibit Museum located a few short blocks from Independence Stadium. Join huskies alumni and fans from 4:00 p.m. - 6:30 p.m. for a tailgate buffet and a cash bar. Tickets for the pregame tailgate are $20. Click here to register online or call 815-753-1452.

Saturday Bowl Events

Join Huskie and Bulldog fans for an Independence Bowl Pep Rally on Saturday, December 27 at 6:oo p.m. at the Louisiana Boardwalk. This event is free and open to the public.

After the pep rally, join NIU alumni and friends for an informal gathering celebrating Huskie Pride at Buffalo Wild Wings located across the street from the Boardwalk at 375 Boardwalk Blvd., Building L, Bossier City, LA 71111. The Huskie Bash will last from 8-10 p.m. Food and drinks will be available for purchase.

Huskie Athletic Scholarship Fund (HASF) has organized an Independence Bowl bus trip for Huskie fans traveling to Shreveport, LA. The Huskie Road Warrior Package includes ground transportation from DeKalb to Shreveport, a ticket to the Alumni Association/HASF pre-game tailgate, a ticket to the Independence Bowl game, three nights in a hotel (based on double occupancy), and a bowl gift. Join the NIU Alumni Association for a cocktail reception at NIU Hoffman Estates. Enjoy heavy appetizers and an open bar before being transported to the nearby Sears Center for the show. Cirque de Soleil Saltimbanco is a signature show inspired by the urban fabric of the metropolis and its colorful inhabitants. Decidedly baroque in its visual vocabulary, the show's eclectic cast of characters draws spectators into a fanciful, dreamlike world, an imaginary city where diversity is a cause for hope.
