"How do you Describe A Spectacle?"

This is a media collage Michelle did for one of her classes.  She put together an assortment of sundry mediated images.  I also mashed together some  audio, but mostly composed from stars wars imperial theme played on synths, xylophone etc.

Music consists of track from:
Steve Reich's songs: "Drumming"
-Drumming [Part I]
-Typing Music (Genesis XVI) [the sound of Genesis XVI typed on a typewriter rhythmically]
13- Genesis XXV (chanted in Hebrew)
14- Interior of the Cave
15 - Surah 3 (chanted in Arabic from the Koran)
- "Clapping Music"
- Music for Pieces of Wood (for five pairs of tuned claves)

"Imperial Theme"- John Williams

Queen - We Will Rock You

Found Sounds

-drumming by Brazilian Samba Baterias

Hey everybody-

The Very Best (a African/London group made up of Esau Mwamwaya and Radioclit) did a mixtape in which they used Architecture in Helsinki's song 'Heart it Races'.
 Pitchfork LOVED it:

I thought I'd mix the both of them together, and they sound great together

Download the mp3 of “Kamphopo Races” free CLiCK here

I thought I'd post a blog about the music video Michelle made for our song "Be Enough"

You can watch it here:

Here's something I wrote:
"Be Enough" is about something we can all relate to-feeling that "we aren't enough' for someone. This song chronicles an effort by the singer to convince his love (and perhaps himself) and he is enough. Musically, it's indie electronic pop with unique instrumentation.

The vocals are quite synthesized some tell me. Why do they sound like that? Well, they are made to sound as if we are speaking through a megaphone, this narrows the frequencies and distorts our vocals. Here is a picture of a megaphone similar to the one I own:

Also, I used Auto-tune a little bit (quite a bit) to give it that sound. Poor Kanye West.

In addition to synths and electric guitars, we use a dulcitar (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dulcitar) in their exciting conclusion to the song! YAY~

Here is a picture of a dulcitar:

This isnt mine, but I dont have a photo of mine.

Hope you like the song...

I just finished a new song, a mash-up mega mix called:
"Set Adrift" -an Ode to Watching the Return of the True Family Diner

It's kinda like Girl Talk in that it's not a mashup of just two or three songs but its a bunch of different songs and I  mix the different parts together... took me FOREVER!
It may not sound like a lot but I changed the tempo, key and
I even changed the melodies at some points...

Song Clips:
*Cranberries - Ode to Family (album and a live acoustic version- you can hear one in the left speaker and the other in the right -)

Suzanna Vega- Tom's Diner

"Ashley's Roach Clip"  breakbeat (sampled by PM Dawn from Eric B. and Rakim's "Paid in Full" (which was, itself, made from a sample of "Ashley's Roach Clip" from the 70s, the original recording of that drum sample that has been used in dozens of songs since)

Spandau Ballet- True
PM Dawn - Set Adrift on Memory Bliss
Enigma - Return to Innocence
Puff Daddy-I'll Be Missing You
Police - Every Breath You Take

As you can tell the theme is to mashup songs that cover and sample each other.

Hope you like it...

Adios,
Joel

P.S. Look for our EP soon!

Hey everybody-

We've stumbled upon some WONDEROUS artists/bands that are not yet famous but should be:

Mackintosh Braun - indie synth pop
http://www. myspace. com/mackintoshbraun
Our  new favorite electronic album we've discovered this year- every song is good!

Christopher Willits
Makes beautiful music in unique ways. Has his masters degree in experimental electronic music.
Check him out!

http://www. myspace. com/christopherwillits

Shugo Tokumaru
This is my favorite non-electronic album this year.  Michelle says it reminds her of a Japanese Sufjan Stevens. (He plays over 50 instruments on the album, and each song is a pop masterpiece.
)

Also check out these electronic musicians:
Paper Plane Pilot
http://www. myspace. com/apaperplanepilot
Imagine Ben Folds singing instead of Ben Gibbard in Postal Service and will give you some idea of his catchy indie pop music.

Between the Now
http://www. myspace. com/betweenthenow
A new take on trip hop, this Florida boy/girl electronic due can't be stopped!
(Look forward to us hopefully playing some shows with them!)
Check em out!

P.S.
Michelle is working on a project for Keats' Handwriting that is very exciting and oh so hush hush! :)
P.S.S.
Look for lots of new stuff from us when we're done with finals!

Cheers,

Joel & Michelle
