Normal 0 MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 .. -->[if !mso]>.. ..[endif]-->.. -->[if gte mso 10]> ..[endif]--> I have an idea. Since black folks dig thanksgiving so much, why don't native Americans celebrate the day our first African descendants where forcibly brought to this country. I think it'd be hip. Don't you? The meso amercian blood in me curdles at the idea of thanksgiving. I love kickin it with my fams, the great food, funny stories and the drama my crazy relatives stir up, is something I look forward to. I must admit I find it kinda weird how my Mexican side has embraced the holiday, same applies to my Caribbean side. I say this because both cultures have experienced the effects of genocide, and are the direct products of a peoples struggle to survive. Historically speaking black folk and American natives have looked out for each other. And the illest cowboys were actually black, Mexican, and Native American. Damn, I'm straying again.. back to my original point. The last few thanksgivings were spent with my wife's amazing family. Beautiful black people whose native American influence is evident in their features. So I've spent thanksgiving with three distinct cultures who's most "common genetic theme" for lack of better words, is arawak/meso/native American blood. I've eaten and watched and prayed with my families, and have never heard any real mention of our native American brother's and sister's. not to say that is isn't a lingering thought in the back of everyone's minds, it's just not brought up much, particularly amongst the elders. my mom (who is the main the source of all my "un-american values, thanks mama!), always called out thanksgiving for what it really was, a pretty fucked holiday. I remember in grade school (St. Francis Xavier), arguing with my teacher about the validity of the thanksgiving story, and getting put in detention for refusing to participate in the annual thanksgiving day play. You can guess who played the natives and who played the pilgrims, but anyway. I don't think I've ever met a full blooded north amercian native. I worked with some dude who for the most part considered himself white, until it was time to get his casino check. I've never had the honor of going to a pow wow, or kickin it with my "cousins" on a rez. I haven't even introduced myself to native American literature, but I will make a conserted effort to change all of that. There are amazing nations quickly being absorbed by American culture. Of course there are those who don't see anything wrong with that, but you how the cliché goes about assholes and opinions. Thanksgiving will always be celebrated, it's a part of the American psyche, sorta like racism. I guess what I'm trying to say is that we need to acknowledge those who were here before us, those who took care of our world and communed with nature and respected her, particularly on thanksgiving. Our family time shouldn't be decided by the whims of industry, we shouldn't be pressured into showing that special someone in our lifes how much we love them on a made up holiday (which ultimately, all of our holidaze are, especially Christmas). So imma spark this spliff and meditate on our indeginous brothers and sisters worldwide and their contributions to the world we live in. Give thanks. Tony Cortes

Can u see like I see? I can see Brother Malcolm smiling down at his revolutionary offspring! Calmly swaying his brilliant mindbed, eyes blinking no faster than the speed of instant replay, ears open all the way to the source of bass drum: Africa. I can see him agreeably, enthusiastically thinking concurrently along with the refrain 'real life, don't seem that real to me. Uh-uh, lookin past, what we've been trained to see..'
I can hear Malcolm, who I feel is more appropiately revered in a paternal sense to we youngsters from two generations removed from his time on Earth. Undoubtedly can I hear him imploring us to reach beyond our own perceived galaxy of creativity!
In California, for the last past days, we as a collective musical unit put our whole souls in2 the moments the music gave us. Our only question daily was 'How can we extend this vibe in2 the space of engagement, which only true honest music can manifest.
Brother, Revolution's Father, Minister Malcolm told us all long ago:
BY ANY MEANS NECESSARY

one of my favorite mcees put out a weak song.
i mean, i watched the video and immediately felt empty inside (ok, it wuzn't that
deep but still..) this dude is one of the illest ever, and even though thoose weak
fucks on mtv never put him on the 10 best list, he still top 5 to me.
but that song.. why? over the last few years i've struggled as an artist to
understand that contrived pop shit. people sittin around trying to mimic the latest
thing.
when i spit, i'm communicating with my folks.
i've tried to make that party song, and in the back of my head i thought to myself,
is this what a whore feels like?
good music is good music, and if a great song sells millions, fresh!!! my beef is
when people try to make that hit instead of makin good music.
fuck all the clothes, the bitches, the cars, the clubs, the crowd..
we are not at a point in history where it is all good.
obama in office won't change the fact that little children workin in sweatshops
make the clothes that most of the rappers flaunt. it won't change the fact that all
those shiny diamonds have blood on em (yeah mo'fo, a large percentage of
diamonds are still "blood diamonds".) for a long time black folk spoke about
issues. we where funky, we where about upliftment. i'm not saying we r not
about that right now, but what would a visitor from another world have to say
about us based soley on the images the media presents?
bear with me, i know that "visitor from another world" comment is a lil out there,
but really!!
if i hear one more person tell me how dope lil wayne is..... i'd appreciate him
more if there where more cats on that level that actually talked about things
relevent to my life. and i'm regular dude so my life is very much like the next
dudes life. ADM doin pop music, nope. fuck dat. if we make a song that has
mass appeal than so be it, but to actually sit down and make a pop song....
i know cats gotta eat, but eating and livin a decadent lifestyle are two different
things. makin rent and buyin mad houses are two different things.
i don't speak for everyone in ADM, we each have our own thoughts on this and
maybe one of my boys will respond, but fuck dat "let's make a pop song" bullshit.
we need more thought provoking music, we need more informative music, WE
NEED MORE VOICES THAT CHALLENGE THE IDEALS OF THE
WORLD WE LIVE IN!!!
ADM, my niggaz, my famz. i have the pleasure to play with the coolest cats i
know, and they all just happen to be incredibly dope at what they do. if u
unplugged us and made us go acoustic we'd still murder it. we still hve a long way
to go, that's the sick part, imagine the sound 6 months from now. no pretense, no
gimmicks, no outfits put together so that we look cute, just 7 cats w somethin to
show the world.
on a side note, i can't wait 2 do a show with the above mentioned mcee (no more
songs like dat. por favor). watchin someone rock a crowd harder than you could
dream of, will only make you better.
aiight, my son woke up and my neighbor downstairs is playin lil wayne, i can hear
his voice through my floor, sigh....

yezzur, it's that time again. just yesterday i wuz again reminded of how ugly
life can be for some people. how hopeless and
impossibly lonely some people feel. a guy i've
known for about 4 years jumped off of the
brooklyn bridge. yeah, he wuz a dick and
arrogant, and should never have been drinking the
way he did, yeah he rubbed me the wrong way
even when he tried to be nice, but he wuz the
kinda dude u'd expect to c around for years. u
know that incredibly smart well read, well
traveled, little pompous shit that grew on you. the
kinda dude that absolutely tested your ability to
keep from knockin him the fuck out. the same
dude who now that he's gone, you find yourself
realizing that in some strange way, you considered
him a friend.
Another Life EXtinguished.. peep the uppercase
letters and you'll see his name.
sometimes i think that i've become so protective of
my emotions that, to qoute one of my favorite
comic characters, constantine, EMPATHY IS THE
ENEMY, or i've made it become the enemy. i find
that emotionally charged people, particularly those
who don't balance it with logic, throw me off.
some folks are so lost in their shit, that their
screams for help end up pushing people away. i
guess being a bartender for a longer time than you
thought u'd be bartending causes you to develope a
thick skin when it comes to drunk, lonely people
who just want someone to talk to. 8 years ago if i
met homey, i would've tried my best to help him
out. i would've cuz my mama always impressed
upon me the importance of a world community.
one in which people help each other. after one
horribly failed relationship (custody battle, po po
knockin on doors, all the good stuff) and two stints
in N.A., i guess i've become bit callous. so when i
found out little dude jumped off the bridge, i wuz
like, he made his choice. yeah, it wuz a dick move
on my part and i regret having thought that. i'm
not particularly religious, but i think suicide is
wrong across the board. i don't know what it feels
like to wanna take u'r own life, especially when u
have a kid. i don't know what it's like to be
prescribed meds that leave u dazed 24/7, and i
don't know what it's like to try to get off those
meds and how your mind and body reacts to it. i
just think it's sad that someone with so much
potential couldn't see what he had to offer. it's sad
to leave your child a legacy like that.
Another Life EXtinguished, silly lil motherfucker...
you really could've done better, for yourself and ya
daughter. hope life treats you better the next time
around..

5:27 am.
these are the hours when all kinds of
thoughts bang against the cerebral walls
of those unable to sleep.
5:28 am
one of thoughts managed to slip through,
it's kinda formless right now, but it holds
some promise.
5:29
ok, i get it... see i believe that in order for
some level of success to be achieved, you
get to a point where you must extinguish
all flames of doubt.. take your index finger
and thumb, and just turn it off.
5:33
yeah soooooooo, looking back at what i've
written and i must say that i want to erase
it and re write, but i won't. i said what i
said and if it only makes sense to me than,
well, what i wrote served a purpose, if only
to clarify certain things goin on inside my
dome..
5:36
obama, cool. gotta whole lot on his plate.
while i was celebrating the fact that we (i
mean progressive people of all
backrounds) shook up the world a lil bit,
the fact that the world hasn't changed has
a sobering effect. racism is as strong as
ever. i don't wanna wait to see what his
plans are, we gotta be on him. in my eyes
a politician is a politician. he is a great
man, his game (sorry folks, it is what it is)
is undeniable, but unless we make sure he
is representing us the way we need him to,
we can't complain if he ends being just
another politician. i'd like to see how he
communicates with brothers like chavez of
venezuela and morales of bolivia. i'd like
to see how he deals w haiti and cuba, i'd
like to see how he deals with aids
pandemic in africa and south east asia.
we've allowed so many atrocities
worldwide in the name of democracy, that
it is imperative we start taking
responsibility at home and abroad.
5:50
ok so the little thought bubble that slipped
out had alot more goin on than i realized.
i apologize for any fuckd up grammar or
bad spelling, and if u don't like what i'm
sayin.. eat a dick. sorry i'm at a pointin my
life where i can't keep shit inside, there
isn't anymore room left..
so yeah folks i guess what i'm trying to
say that individually we are responsible
for our own actions and how the affect us
and ultimately the people around us. from
the clothes we wear to the food we eat,
someone somewhere is paying a hefty
price for our relative comfort.
5:55
u know what, don't you hate when niggaz
is like, yo i got you son, imma do this
imma do that!?!? yeah, i've been
responsible of that very same thing, it
doesn't make it easier to accept.
5:57
i'm trying to make my art and existence as
simple as possible. i want to say the most
with the least amount of words (not at this
moment, i'm enjoying shootin the shit via
the worldwide web).
love ya self, love ya famz, love ya enemies,
be accountable for your shit, don't pass
the buck cuz it'll come back to you all
crusty and what not..

Hello consumate living organisms, Im taking a deep breath.,I still gotta take it in. Obama is our president. Its a serious time. We as a nation know we harness the power for change when we come together. These last months can be likened to the momentous times (positive or not) that our parents and grand and great grandparents experienced in the 30's and 60's. we stay rockin 80's shit still so its all related. But, we have a heightend responsibility to maintain this high that we're all on. Its BullSHIT if we go back to our old complacent and inactive and ignorant ways and expect change to just manifest itself without action or intentional postive mental thoughts and feelings. The law of attraction is eternally active and so will the consequences of unintentional living be active especially when our eyes ears and hearts are not open. So, stay smart, stay informed and dont believe the hype! Im happy that this change puts America on track towards finally acknowledging and reckoning with its scarred past rooted in slavery. That reckoning is also what will spread and heal the world. Be smart out there and don't front with this change shit if you don't want to authentically love your brother and sister regardless of what differences may be pitted against us. peace, MV (drums)

I'd like 2 kick off this blog by sending nuff luv and respect 2 Darcy aka DRC aka dat chick who get's it done!! Sometimes it helps 2 have another individuals enthusiasm about what you do, cuz it validates in many ways that you r on 2 something. I can't sleep cuz 2morro will be the very first time I cast my vote, shame on me, I know. I'm 2nd generation black/chicano, and it's Obama all the way 4 me. As our elders, especially our elder of african american descent, look on, I can't even imagine what it's like 4 those who survived 2 be witnessing this moment. The unimaginable experiences many of our elder endured so that we can do something that I've always taken 4 granted. Yeah, the system is fucked but we see what a unified vote can bring. It's bigger than who wins. Tmrrow (Obama!!), it's really about makin this system work 4 us or else...
K gnight, gotta hit da line at 630 AM!!
