Hello you lovely myspace people!

Well, we are well into the season for making your handmade Christmas cards! How are yours going?

I must be honest I am still thinking of what theme to do mine - maybe I'll do them a bit psychedelic! Those of you who know me well, know I can't resist a bit of sixties design!

When you've made your cards, remember to upload your photos onto the Artists Resource Facebook Group page - http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=15676084451 - I'd love to see what you're up to! Maybe I could even do a competition for the best one....let me know if that sounds good to you!

And by the way, please invite your friends to join the Artists Resource Group - its really easy - just go to the top right hand menu on the Artists Resource Group page and click on 'Invite your friends'!

Speak soon!

Click the image above for the FREE VIDEO DEMONSTRATION on this project!

You will need: A Marabu Easy Marble Kit, small pieces of scrap card, various items to decorate such as a candle, picture frame, mirror, bauble and vase and a small bucket of water.

Method:

1- Make sure your bucket of water is the correct depth for dipping your item(s) into.
2- Choose a selection of colours from the Marabu Easy Marble Kit and drop approx 6 or 7 drops onto the surface of the water in your bucket, one colour after the other.
3- Get your other kebab stick and merge all the colours together on the surface of the water by giving them a little twizzle!
4- Hold your object as firmly as you can either by placing your hand inside the object or on the tip or the reverse. Dip your object into the paint slowly, then out quickly. Leave to dry.
5- Use the cardboard to take up the used paint on the surface and apply new Easy Marble paint for each object you are Marbling. Simple!

HOW TO MAKE A GLASS BOX

You can create some really exsquisite objects using glass three-dimentionally. This simple box can be adapted using triangular pieces of glass for a pryamid box or even parallelograms for a unique shaped box. Finish your box with patterns painted in glass paint and outliner.

MATERIALS

A large sheet of glass, no more than 3mm thick.
A glass cutter
a set square suitable for glass cutting
a hard, rigid, work surface
chinagraph pencil - any colour
masking tape
a carborundum stone
A 75 watt soldering iron with stand
premium grade glass solder
clear flux and a paintbrush
a lead fid
5.5mm copper foil tape
2mm steel wire

METHOD

1- On your glass sheet, Mark out 6 equally sized clear glass pieces 12 by 12 by 12cm with the chinagraph pencil.
2- Cut your glass sheet using the set square and cutter.
3- Use the carborundum stone to sand down the edges of the glass.
4- Cut some copper foil tape strips to size and apply to each square all around the edges. Use the fid to smooth the foil around the corners.
5- Using the masking tape, assemble the 5 pieces of glass to form an open topped box. Leave the sixth piece to the side for a moment.
6- Apply the flux with the paintbrush to all your seams
7- Remove each piece of masking tape, one at a time and solder each side together. Place the solder ontop of the copper foil and heat the copper, the solder will melt in the area you wish to join. Cover all the copper foil with solder.
8- Solder around the sixth piece of glass.
9- For the lid, cut two pieces of wire approx 4cm long. Bend them in half to form a loop. Solder them to the top of the box at either side.
10- Cut another two pieces of wire 4cm long and bend in half again. Thread them through the loops and then onto the sixth piece of glass at either side. Make sure your lid is parallel to your box and solder the joins once more.
11- Decorate with glass paints and outliner.

HOW TO DECORATE A PLAIN CERAMIC DINNER SERVICE

FOR MORE PROJECTS LIKE THIS AND GREAT CRAFT VIDEOS:

www.artistsresource.co.uk

.

There are two great ways to can decorate your ceramic dinner service - the two complimenting applications of Sponging and Stencilling. If you decorate one half of your service with Sponging and the other with Stencilling, they look fantastic together. You may want to put the sponging effect on all the small plates and all the stencilling on all the large plates, or combine the two. Its totally up to you.

MATERIALS

Your chosen ceramic items - its ideal to have a small range of an even number
some card
scissors
2 colours of ceramic paints - vitrea 160
2 bowls
2 natural sponges of different sizes and shapes
blue tack
a paintbrush
some water in a small jar to wash your paintbrush in

SPONGING

1- Pour a small pool of each of the ceramic paints into the bowls
2- Choose which sponge to dip in which colour.
3- Dip the larger sponge into the lighter colour and squeeze out the excess.
4- Proceed to press the sponge all over the surface of half of your ceramic ware.
5- Repeat steps 3 and 4 with the other sponge and the other colour, over the top of the first colour.
6- leave to dry for 24 hours
7- Place in the oven at 180 degrees fro 40 minutes.

STENCILLING

1- Choose a shape to stencil. It could be from a source book or one you have drawn freehand yourself. Make sure it is a simple shape and one you can add detail to later, for example a butterfly or a moon shape. Make sure they are the right size for your ceramics.
2- Draw it three or four times (depending on the size of your ceramicware) in the centre of the piece of card
3- Cut out with the scissors
4- Arrange the cut out shapes on the plate in a pleasing manner and blue tack down.
5- Using the darker colour ceramic paint, paint all around the shapes covering the ceramic, pressing down with your finger near the edges of each cut out to make sure you get an even line. Dont put too much paint on your brush when you do this. Repeat on all your chosen ceramics.
6- leave to dry for 24 hours
7- Place in the oven at 180 degrees fro 40 minutes.
