So let me first say and say it very staunchly I AM NOT A BILL O REILLY SUPPORTER. He is probably the most belligerent and ignorant right wing douches I've ever come across.
I find him angry and arrogant and it only scares me to see that he represents a huge majority of not only republican america but also the rest of the world. I'm well aware that the nature of his politics is more far reaching than just the USA. Ignorant people are born every second all over the world.
For those of you not familiar with Bill O reilly, please take a few minutes to google, youtube and wikipedia him. You'll find some gems i promise.
This video below, although it's 90% cu*t (O Reilly) There are some valid points made.
Anyway, the reason for this post is merely for me to vent.
Let me say I love Michael Jackson. I think he was a magical and as a youngster, a prodigious talent. He grew into an amazing performer and I dont think we'll see any one in our lifetime touch or better anything he did. But I did find his memorial and this public televised outpouring very, sick.
Not just sick. Weird, uncomfortable and in parts completely false.
Admittedly, i did not sit through the entire service. but i watched enough of it.
As moving as it was in parts. I couldn't supress the kicking in me that said "Wow, Usher sure is putting on a winning and emotive performance here"
and "what's that, Jackson's funeral sponsored by a stationary company?"
The best part was getting his daughter, Paris to make an uncomfortable sobbing speech about how much she missed her Dad. Even as her words became illegible through the tears, she had her hair stroked and was goaded, by her world famous aunts and uncles to keep going.
Added to the fact that you can't seem to move on the internet for sidebars and sponsored links telling you to click here for jackson memorabilia.
And if you were one of the many people to buy tickets for his tour, you are now presented with the A or B option. You can either get your moneyback or keep the ticket as a relic. But not both. Hmmm
And last but not least, Jackson's own father. Joe Jackson. Turning up to a BET red carpet event about 2 days after Michael had died.( Already, this is sounding inappropriate, right?) But couple this with him using this as a platform to launch his new label. I think we have reached a whole new level. (This is all pretty astounding but skip to 3.10sec for the money shot.)
..
The list goes on. I would too but I am feeling queasy.
This is not a michael Jackson bash. Far from it. It is merely an observation. I think it speaks volumes about modern society, celebrity culture and vulturism.
Not even your family are immune from it.
I don't know. It's altogether depressing and fascinating at the same time.
To be honest I didnt expect anything different. He was a phenomenon and a 'freak show'. It was only natural his service would be a grand circus.
Regardless of what you thought of his private matters or the accusations, we've seen that people and the media can pummel to the ground and destroy every last inch of a person when they are alive. But death seems to spare this and elects them into a state of martyrdom. (See Jade Goody)
Love you all
