What's the internet have to say about Mice in Cars?  Let's see...

We have tried a number of what turned out to be useless rural mythological techniques to keep mice out of cars...I've been battling mice in the cars ever since the cold weather set in.  Now we’re at war... Ugh! I——ing hate mice in cars. Hate, hate, hate them. I really could go and have gone on for 30 minutes or more spewing expletives to illustrate my feelings about those bastards...I have lived with "mice in cars" problem for years...The managers of a San Francisco Bay area auto repair shop are charged with planting dead mice in cars to justify bills for fixing rodent damage ... there was no evidence that mice got into the car because of some manufacturing defect... Q: How do you get rid of mice in cars?

Awesome!

EXCELLENT house show Friday night.  Our first full set as a trio worked well and we had a blast playing.  Two members of New York's mighty Flaming Tusk were among the enthusiastic crowd huddled in the kitchen opposite us--for a partial account from Xristophage, check his blog.

Also playing last night was one dude from Tendaberry who did some decidedly soulful punk covers.  I'd never heard anyone sing "Heart-Shaped Box" in a falsetto, and it was pretty great.  I think they'll be playing the Icehouse on the 7th, if the echos from our show the night before have died down by then.  Go see 'em, cheese!

It'd been forever since we'd played with Humboldt and they've only gotten more incredible in that time.  Shook the place.

So yeah, I'm nursing some weird strawberry rubbed-raw guitar rash on my arm because I'm a sweaty bastard.

Also: MiC's got a Facebook page now.  Why?  Because bite me, that's why.  Swing by.  See you at the Icehouse Friday!

...well, where is it?  Hey hey, it's not here, but if you check out our Facebook page, there's a new recording from the ARG benefit show at the EARL posted all up on that junk.

Thanks for listening!  Super stoked about that house show on the 27th--hope to see you there!

Well that was wicked fun! Big thanks to ARG for bringing a rowdy party
(as always!), to the EARL for STILL being the best place to play in
town, to Curt Wells for barreling through the paces for all 43 bands
that played. Huge thanks also to Beth Kargel for putting the
whole thing together, for playing with us (and seemingly half the other
acts as well!) and for looking great while doing it. Aplomb! Love and
respect to: Brain Box, Mary O, The Preakness, Silent Kids and the Young
Antiques.

And hey, thanks for showin up.

This shit got burned to CD--we'll let you in on it when we get our hands on it.

Just wanted to post really quickly, thanking everyone who showed up for our Nophest set last Saturday at Wonderroot.  We had a sloppy, rambunctious good time.  My arms are still sore from that stunt with the I-beam.  Not 19 anymore.

I noticed some flashes going during our set.  If anyone got any good pictures, let us know!  We are vain, vain men who love nothing more than to gaze into mirrors all day, brushing our hair and doing our nails.

DO YOURSELF A FAVOR and plan to make it out to Lenny's for the 2nd Annual Moonshine Christmas Art Show on Saturday the 13th.  Check TheirSpace [http://myspace.com/amoonshinechristmas/] for more details.  This year's show promises to be twice as awesome as '07s and we've got some surprises planned for our set.  So come on out!  Hobnob with artists, bid on their work, drink cheap beer and get yer ass rocked!

Cheers,
Myke

Mice In Cars - Mice In Cars

Produced by Mice In Cars
Engineered by: Tyler Hepner at Thunderbox Studios in Atlanta, GA
Mixed by Tyler Hepner

Mice In Cars formed in Atlanta in May 2007. The post-punk indie band claims influences that range from The Pixies to Fugazi, to more experimental, psychedelic bands like Sigur Ros. The band's debut self-titled EP shows these varied influences.

The songs on the EP swing dramatically from times of pounding guitar and drums, to haunting trance-inducing melodies. "Swallow My Tongue," the first track on the EP, begins with the droning of distorted guitar that builds to singer Myke John's gravel toned, half-sung, half-yelled vocals in the style of Nirvana or Sonic Youth. A driving, powerful drum and bass part propel the song. Mice In Cars does a good job layering the meandering, sometimes chaotic, guitar riffs on top of the driving-rock backbone.

The end result of "Swallow My Tongue" is a song that finds the middle ground between hugely experimental and heavy post-punk rock. This formula is one that the band uses with success throughout the EP, including the second song "An interstate can be an eloquent statement of political boundaries."

At other times on the EP, Mice In Cars switches from the meandering, droning guitar riffs to more developed ones. These riffs draw similarities to the ones used by bands like The Pixies and Sunny Day Real Estate. The opening riffs on the EP's third song, "Six Months On Mir," show this comparison the most clear.

"Viva Big Ass" is the most interesting and diverse song on the EP. The song begins with a punchy, rapid-fire introduction on guitar and drums. Later, this introduction gives way to a slow, melancholy verse, but before you can get too bored with it Mice In Cars brings back the punchy riffs of the introduction. Throw a guitar solo in before a return to the experimental chaos and you have a song that demonstrates all the facets of Mice In Cars.

Mice In Cars debut EP is a strong release. While it's not perfect (the EP is unmastered), it still shows a great sound that should be interesting to hear as the band grows. (Self-released)

So after an underwhelming show at the Icehouse, we set our phasers to STUN and headed to WonderRoot for a show with Balkans, Bambara and Chainestereo.  This show was fantastic, y'all.  This is the shit that I love: basement shows, crowded room, low ceiling and cheap beer.  I regret not hanging from the I-beam.

My pick for MVP of the evening was Athens' Bambara, who threw down some ferocious sonics that still managed to be catchy and dare I say dance-able?  Looking forward to perhaps playing with them again.

Also: special thanks to Drew & Swine Song Ent. for pulling the show together.  This guy's comin' up, I promise you.  Keep an eye on the bills he's promoting and go see these damn bands, ppl.  Drew's a straight shooter and we need more like him on the business end of this business.

THE ROCKING WILL CONTINUE UNTIL THE MASSES HAVE BEEN SUBJUGATED.  AND THEN SOME.

Last night's Drunken Unicorn show was aces.  Despite some grounding issues which kept me at a safe distance from the mic, our set zapped along wonderfully.  We premiered three new songs (we're close to having a 4th new one, y'all!  Keep an ear out) and Nick pounded it out like a champ.

Lots of love to both Silent and Listen and Nigredo for being excellent stagemates.  I do believe you could choke a camel with the combined contents of their pedal boards.  Nigredo brought some serious crescendoing action to the evening--guys, do you need a primer for that Mogwai show next month?  Wanna psyche yourself up for some punishing dynamic shifts?  Nigredo is there for you.

Great night.  Looking forward to Tuesday.  Icehouse y'all!  Hope to see you there.
