This is terrible and it sickens me. It's copied from another blog. Please spread the word and take action:

If you haven’t heard, a TRAVESTY is occurring right now in Fort Worth, Texas. On June 28th, 2009, the Fort Worth Police raided a local gay bar called the Rainbow Lounge. They arrested several patrons for public intoxication (in a bar?) but it did not stop there. According to witnesses there that night, they seemed to arrest people at random and violently shoved anyone who dared to question why. Worst of all, 5 officers violently beat one man, Chad Gibson, so severely that he remains in the ICU at John Peter Smith Hospital in critical condition. He has a blood clot in his brain and is in a coma. His prognosis is not good. (UPDATE: local news is reporting he has been moved from the ICU today so hurrah!)

Why, you may be asking yourself, is this young man near death at the hands of the very law enforcement officers (there is some confusion and finger-pointing as to whether it was the Fort Worth PD or the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission aka TABC who are responsible) who are supposed to protect him? Surely, he pulled a weapon or resisted arrest, right?

Wrong.

Chad allegedly sexually harassed the officers. This is a claim that is being hotly disputed by every person at the club. They claim – with very good reasoning – that no person of any sexuality or gender is stupid enough to go up to a group of men who are obviously police officers and start flirting much less pursue it so aggressively that it becomes necessary that 5 police men have to beat the “paramour” into a coma with their billy clubs.

I’m sorry, did I say “necessary”? Its NEVER necessary to beat someone that severely for ANY reason. It calls to mind the Rodney King trial, when the man was viciously beaten for resisting arrest by a bunch of racist cops. Even if Chad was superbly sexually aggressive – again, which I doubt and every person there that night protests – there is no situation in which that level of force is necessary. I’m sure most people of both genders and all sexualities have been hit on by someone they were not interested in. I have been hit on many times by sexually aggressive men who have grabbed my tits and ass, tried jamming their tongues down my throat, and generally been aggressive to the point where it could have classified as assault. During these occasions, I have pushed the creeps away and had them thrown out by security. And never once has it even been necessary for security to beat the dudes up in any fashion nor would it have been legal had they done so. In fact, when I have gone to the police on the one occasion where I felt it crossed the line into assault, I was told that my attacker was “just drunk” and I should “feel complimented” that he found me so hot.

But if we take the police’s story as gospel – that this man was so hot to fuck that common sense fled him and he wouldn’t stop groping the officers, why hasn’t he been charged with anything? The officers arrested several patrons for public intoxication (again, IN A BAR????) but didn’t arrest anyone for assault. Even Chad himself was arrested for public intoxication BUT NOT FOR ANYTHING ELSE. There have been no charges filed for assault OR resisting arrest. If he was so uncontrollable that it took 5 police officers to subdue a 160-pound, 26 year-old-man then why wasn’t he charged with anything more than public intoxication? Furthermore, police claim he was so drunk he was vomiting and fell down and hit his head and that is how he was injured. Really? So if he was that drunk and fell over on his own, why are there pictures of police beating him that patrons captured with their cell phones?

You can’t have it both ways, TABC. Either he was a sex-crazed maniac, so driven to fuck that he grabbed the crotch of a man who was obviously a police officer in such a manner than indicated rape was imminent and needed the full force of 5 officers to subdue him or he was a sloppy drunk who was projectile vomiting and so inebriated that he fell to the ground with such force that he put himself into what may be an irreversible coma if not an early grave. Pick one.

EVEN IF he really was flirting with danger in the literal sense, EVEN IF he was so drunk that he grabbed the crotch of a police officer, these men are TRAINED in how to subdue criminals. There is no reason – NONE – that calls for violence this severe. If I beat any of the men who grabbed my tits or my ass or in between my legs into a coma, I’d be in jail.

The chief of police, Jeff Halstead, has issued a helpful statement that boils down to “them faggots deserved it!” He said “You’re touched and advanced in certain ways by people inside the bar, that’s offensive. I’m happy with the restraint used when they were contacted like that.”

Restraint? What restraint? You’re happy that a guy allegedly grabbed an officers crotch and was beaten by FIVE MEN and now may die? You’re happy with this turn of events? Shame on you, Jeff Halstead! Shame!

This raid occurred on the 40th anniversary of the Stonewall Riots. For those of you who are not familiar, the Stonewall Riots are the birth of the gay rights movement in America. In 1969, New York police raided the Stonewall Inn in Greenwich Village. The locked the patrons in, lined them up, and began checking their identification. Any transgendered individuals (men dressed as women, primarily) were taken into a bathroom by a female police officer and their gender was checked (aka, they looked in their underwear to see what was down there). Any men wearing women’s clothing were arrested. Women were required to wear three pieces of feminine clothing, and would be arrested if found not wearing them. But the people in the Stonewall Inn refused to show their ID, to leave with officers, to be treated this way. The police responded by putting all the transvestites in the back room of the bar. Then they began inappropriately touching the lesbians as they frisked them. They kicked out everyone not being arrested – often forcefully – and a crowd began to grow outside. After a lesbian was dragged outside and beaten for complaining her handcuffs were too tight, she screamed “why won’t you guys do something?!” And the people outside of Stonewall that night did. They rioted. They rioted that night and several nights after and this was the violent, bloody, angry birth of the Gay Civil Rights movement. And good for all of them, too! I am all for non-violent protest but this was a defining moment in our history, where the GLBT community stood up and said “NO MORE!” If it wasn’t for them, we’d live in a very different and possibly much darker world.

And on the anniversary of this night, this awful raid in Fort Worth occurred. We have come far but not far enough.

George Armstrong might be recalling something more akin to the Kent State shootings. He says he flashed a peace sign at officers and was tackled to the floor with his arms twisted behind his back. “He was yelling at me to stop resisting arrest, but I wasn’t doing anything. It was horrible. I really thought he had broken my shoulder. I’ve never been so embarrassed and humiliated. I didn’t do anything to him.” He saw other patrons who were arrested harmed as well. When he went to the hospital upon being released from jail, xrays showed his shoulder and back were severely bruised and strained and his arm is in a sling.

And why were the police raiding a bar that had been open less than two weeks???? Targeting the GLBT community perhaps???

I don’t think I need to stress anymore how unacceptable and wrong these actions by the Fort Worth Police are. What I do want to stress is what you can do about them. PLEASE take at least one of the following actions and help truly bring about change and equality.

I urge you all to write or call the following people. Please feel free to copy and paste this block of email addresses to bulk mail everyone. fwpdweb@fortworthpd.com, Joel.Burns@fortworthgov.org, District3@fortworthgov.org, District4@fortworthgov.org, District5@fortworthgov.org, District6@fortworthgov.org, District7@fortworthgov.org, mike.moncrief@fortworthgov.org, opr@tabc.state.tx.us

The Fort Worth Police Department’s email address is fwpdweb@fortworthpd.com and the number for FWPD’s internal affairs office is 817.392.4270. That’s the number to call to report officer misconduct. Let the TABC know you are not happy with the fact that Chad was so brutally treated while in their custody. To file a complaint email: opr@tabc.state.tx.us or call: 512-206-3405. Joel Burns is the openly gay member of the Fort Worth city council and he’s been all over this. You can reach him at his email is Joel.Burns@fortworthgov.org. Burns, however, has taken action on this and has called for an investigation and is doing everything an openly-gay elected official is supposed to do in a circumstance like this. If you’re itching to send an outraged emails, I’d urge you to send emails to the six Fort Worth councilmembers who haven’t joined with Burns and two of his colleagues in calling for a full and independent investigation into the appalling raid on the Rainbow Lounge.

Councilmember W.B. “Zim” Zimmerman

And send an email to the mayor, Mike Moncreif, who has yet to make a statement:

Mayor Mike Moncrief

mike.moncrief@fortworthgov.org

Tell them the whole country is shocked and outraged and that you’re appalled by their failure to join their colleagues Joel Burns, Sal Espino, and Kathleen Hicks in calling for an investigation into the raid on the Rainbow Lounge and the assault on Chad Gibson.

I got the above contact info from the Slog who has been doing great coverage on this story so thank you to them for that info. I would further encourage you to email State Senator Wendy Davis who is calling for an external investigation into this matter.

Below is the letter I emailed to all of the above persons. If you are lacking something to write, please feel free to use what I wrote.

I am shocked and appalled at the events that happened recently in Fort Worth at the Rainbow Lounge. A man is near-death after police beat him for allegedly groping one of the officers. There is no reason to EVER use that amount of force on a non-threatening subject. Even if Chad did make sexual advances on an officer, which I do not believe he did, that is NO reason to have 5 officers beat him until he is near death. Surely, if such conduct were legal, it would be acceptable for every woman hit on by perverts at the local watering hole to grab the nearest bear bottle and group of her girlfriends and beat the guy who squeezed her breasts into a coma.

This action by the Fort Worth police force is indefensible, untenable, and disgusting. These men should be removed from the force, prosecuted, and condemned by every level of government and police in the state. There is a public outcry across the country that will only get stronger with each passing day. The remarks of Jeff Halstead, Fort Worth’s Chief of Police, should likewise be decried. Like every bigot trying to cover up an act of hatred, he is trying to blame the victims and has essentially told the world “them fags deserved it”.

This should not stand. This is AMERICA; land of the free, home of the brave, the country where the pursuit of happiness is a cherished right. We have struggled for decades to come beyond the age-old bonds of bigotry. From Suffrage to Martin Luther King to the Stonewall Riots (which, ironically, fell upon the same day as this awful travesty in Fort Worth 40 years ago), Americans have been taking strides against these very acts of hatred and bigotry that have been perpetrated by the Fort Worth Police Force. We have farther to go and this is where you can help us take a stride in the right direction. Decry these actions. Use every ounce of the weight you have in Texas to stand AGAINST these hateful crimes. Even though they were committed by police officers – especially because they were committed by police officers – these actions are wrong. Furthermore, these officers wouldn’t have reacted that way where they in a straight bar and approached by a woman. These actions were spurred by hate, fear, and intolerance and so should these actions be spurned by those who stand against these horrors.

Please do the right thing and come out against these actions and truly discipline the officers involved. This is your moment to show that you will not stand for intolerance. Like the brutal beating of Rodney King, like the Stonewall Riots, like the Kent State shootings, this is something that is going to be remembered in the history books as a crucial moment in the ongoing struggle for civil rights and equality. How do you want to be remembered by the history books? Please look beyond the moment – the political climate in your area – and know that the spotlight of history is illuminating your face. Do the right thing. Do it for Chad, who may die for nothing more than making a pass at a cute guy (if that is indeed what he did). Do it for history so that your name will be lauded as a champion of equal rights when a champion was needed most. Do it for your children and mine, for every future citizen of America so that they may grow up in a world that is a little more free from hate. Do it because it is the right thing to do.

Whatever reason you do it for, please come out against these actions and please do it soon. Your country needs you to do the right thing. This is something that is bigger than yourself, myself, the Fort Worth Police Force, the patrons of the Rainbow Lounge, and the actions of that night. This is a moment to step out into the sunlight of acceptance and out of the darkness of hatred, the quagmire of fear. This is a moment to advance the entire human race.

Please, take that step. Please, take a stand against hate. The country is waiting, we are listening, and we need you.

There is a Facebook group that has been created to keep people in the know about this terrible event which has a lot of great ideas and info. And, of course, the HRC is the nation’s largest GLBT rights organization and I’d encourage you all to join in the fight there!

PLEASE do not be silent on this issue! The GLBT community, not just in Fort Worth but across the world, needs your voice desperately. An email or a phone call can make a world of difference. Telling your friends and your family about this travesty and getting them to call or email makes a world of difference. PLEASE DO NOT BE SILENT! Every person – gay or straight, black or white, man or woman – whatever it is that separates us should also unite us. We all deserve equality and this is a moment where YOU can make a real change. Please contact the people above and express your outrage. Please tell everyone you know about this horrible transgression and urge them to act too. Equality and freedom are won by fighting a long uphill battle. Please join me in that fight. You are urgently needed.

Current mood:  bitchy
Okay, this post has been building for a long time and it just got sparked into life over a little myspace drama I had.

1. The argument "Someone put a lot of work into it" is not a valid argument. Twilight still sucks. I can give a huge list of reasons as to why it sucks. It's not for a lack of effort, that's for sure. I know how much work it takes to create something shitty. So don't tell me I can't say something sucks because people put work into it. Give me actual counter arguments.

2. Stop being entitled. I'm getting so sick of entitled fans. It's not the shows/movies job to film your fan fiction. The creators have their vision, it may not match yours, deal. But the worst entitled fans are found in bandom. Mainly the MCR bandom, but AFI has its good share. Who the hell are you to tell them how to write their music? They'll write what they want. If you don't like it, don't buy it. But worst of all is all the bitching when they don't come out after concerts or during events or whatever. It's always immediately "oh they've changed. they don't care anymore." It's not their JOB to come out and say hi to us. It's their job to do the event, concert, interview, promotion, whatever, but coming out and hanging with us? that's a bonus. A bonus a lot of big name bands no longer have time for or can do cause the fans tends to be douchebags. I wouldn't wanna go out and have people scream in my face and then tell me that my new stuff is okay but my old stuff was much better. Just shut up and show the bands some respect. They're PEOPLE not your personal entertainers.

3. If you were in fandom but no longer like it...don't stay! There's nothing worse than a bitter fan that always posts "WOW that episode sucked AGAIN!" If you're saying that all season...maybe you should move on. I don't like the Killers new stuff and I don't listen to it. Yes I complain about them to my friends but I don't join the Killers message board and go "OMG THEY SUCK! I WISH THEY WERE OLD SKOOL LIKE THEY USED TO BE!" Same with Heroes. Didn't like what I saw of Season 3...so I stopped watching.

4. Shitty fan fiction gets the most comments praising it. i.e. : Twilight.

okay...that was an uncalled for dig...but it was funny =D

Current mood:  annoyed
Went to a comic book signing with Gerard Way today, except by the time I got there they already gave all the wrist bands away. Well gee, someone should've maybe mentioned wrist bands and a limit of people when I was in there on Wednesday. Or maybe it could've been on the flier. But no, whatever. So I hung out outside with some other people that came too late and man...after a while I wanted to punch some of these girls. Besides the expected "oh he's changed", "he's gotten pretentious" and "it's not the same anymore" butthurt comments most fans spew when bands don't do exactly as they wish some of these girls started to sing as loud as they could and totally off key in front of the comic store. WTF?!

Okay guys...news flash: HE WASN'T THERE TO PROMOTE THE BAND! HE WAS THERE TO PROMOTE HIS COMIC BOOK SERIES! It has NOTHING to do with My Chemical Romance except both involving a certain Mr. Gerard Way! I get that most of the people in line didn't give a shit about the comic book but I did. I'm a collector. I'm a comic geek. I wanted to discuss the finer points of The Rumors powers with him, but noooooo. /end tangent rant

So some dude came out of the store and said that the singing was horrible and wow he didn't sound or look like he was kidding. I was so embarrassed. I wasn't the only one. It was literally just a group of like 10 girls singing song after song after song. SHUT UP! So finally, after he signs everyones comics, he steps outside real quick to wave and people freak out and start to scream and he hurries back inside.

...DON'T SCREAM IN HIS FACE! Do they really think screaming at him will make him want to stay? UGH people! UGH!

I like AFI fans so much better.

So I haven't been to work this week cause I'm 'on call', but to be quite honest it's actually really nice. I fixed up my demo reel, got my resume in order and typed up a breakdown so I got all my documents ready to go job hunting. Yesterday Anke, Charlie and I went to California Adventure and Disneyland and that was really nice. Today I'm planning on working on Erica's project and do laundry, that's about it. Oh, and I've been watching lots of stuff. It's good.

And the movie review:

Pan's Labyrinth

I was hoping I'd like this movie much more than I actually did. It felt very disjointed to me, like they couldn't REALLY figure out how to stitch the 'real' story and the 'fantasy' story together. What I'm taking away from this movie is that the little girl made the whole fantasy world up in her head to escape from the horrors of her life. They tried leaving it ambiguous but a lot of the fantasy elements felt stuck in there, especially the very end where she goes home to her fantasy world.

Really, I blame a lot of this on the writing and the directing. While the real world story was really good there was no true reaction to the fantasy elements. The little girl never reacted to ANYTHING. She just always stood there and accepted it and went on to do her little missions. Which makes sense if she was making it all up to begin with but it was really distracting and took me out of the movie. And then there was the convenience factor. It really annoyed me when she ate the grapes on her second mission when she was specifically told NOT to eat or drink anything and that her life would depend on it. I get that they had to insert something exciting but wow...to just literally have her stop and eat a grape when she already got what she came for, was almost home and the fairies are telling her not just because she thought 'no one would notice'? Are you serious? that was horrible. Absolutely horrible and lazy writing and I hated it.

Also, the graphic violence seemed unnecessary. It didn't add anything to the movie. The real world was already horrific enough, they didn't NEED to constantly have something oh so shocking happen. But that's really just a preference thing.

All in all: a very pretty movie with a disappointing execution and delivery.

PS- I'm happy to see that I'm not the only one who has problems making blood hits look 100% real.

Darren always states things better than I ever could. Please, spread the love as much as you can and help us fight this idiocy.

It breaks my heart

18 thousand married couples in California face their unions being discredited and their relationships declared invalid because of a campaign of hate. Please take a moment to watch this peaceful statement and sign the petition if you feel as strongly as I do that this madness has got to stop.

I am a human being. I am male. I have brown hair. I have blue eyes. And I am gay. I was born with these characteristics and it's about time we stop punishing people for their genetic make up and accept that in 100 years time we will be as ashamed of how we treat differences in sexuality as we do about our horrible history of racism. People have been walking into registrary offices for an entire generation getting civil marriages that do not involve religion. Same sex partners simply want the same rights as every other human being in the free wold. To marry the person they love.
With love in my heart..

So much has been happening in good old germany. It snowed which is nice but mom keeps saying how much she didn't miss this part of winter and how much she hates snow. They also didn't put winter tires on our rental car so she has trouble getting the car up hills and such.

There was some tension in the family. Grandpa really pissed mom off on new years so we left and he had to spend it alone. But the next day we got it sorted out and I think he even apologized which is good.

Doreen, Holga and little Jessie are here and yesterday we went with grandpa to the bank to get all the accounts registered in his name and to get him some new debit and credit cards cause they all went over grandmas name cause she was the one in charge of the finances. Then we all went out to eat and it was a good day. Then some time around 8:40 PM I get a call from grandpa that my aunt is in the hospital. Apparently she had a stroke.

My cousin Daniel found her collapsed somewhere and she couldn't move the left side of her body and she couldn't speak anymore either. So they immediately called an ambulance. Mom picked my uncle up from his work and drove him to the hospital. They found a tumor in my aunts brain the size of a chicken egg but it's supposed to benigne. It's apparently been slowly growing for the past 20 to 30 years. They're not sure if that's what caused her to collapse or if she really did have a stroke. They're still running tests.

I feel really bad for my family here. First my grandma and now my aunt has this wrong with her. Her dad - so my...I dunno what that makes him... - but his brother died in November, then his sister died Christmas eve, then we had to burry grandma and now this with his daughter. The poor man. It must be so hard.

It's nice to be in germany again but I really can't wait until I'm home. Bielefeld was never home. If I were in Berlin it'd probably be different. I know it'd be different for mom as well.

Oh, and I already bought all the goodies for people. So the weekend when I get home maybe I can give those out to my friends.

Current mood:  amused
I was linked to this and I found it so true that I just had to share with everyone. The original is here. I'd write my comments on it but the guy said pretty much everything I think about this "Nice Guy". And I am yet to meet this "Bad Boy" as well.

What is a "Nice Guy?"

Ah, the Nice Guy®. Pity the Nice Guy®. No, please, pity him. He desperately wants you to. And while you're pitying him, would it kill you to give him a mercy fuck? Whether or not he ever asks for it? Because, if not, he's going to become an angry, embittered Nice Guy®, and that...well, that's just pathetic.

No, seriously.

All right. Seriously. A Nice Guy® is a guy who tells you, in a bitter, resentful tone, that women don't date "nice guys," they only date "bad boys," and because he's "too nice," women only view him as a friend.

What's wrong with that statement?

He's not a friend to women.

But don't women go for the bad boy?

Okay, I can see we're not going to get anywhere this way, so let's take a look at a typical Nice Guy® giving his natural mating cry, known to most people as a "loud, obnoxious whine." I think he does a great job of illustrating his own pathologies, far better than I can do:

I see this question posted with some regularity in the personals section, so I thought I'd take a minute to explain things to the ladies out there that haven't figured it out.

What happened to all the nice guys?

The answer is simple: you did.

As you can see, the Nice Guy®'s first target, in everything, is women. Usually it's a specific woman, but she's a stand-in for all women, as we'll see.

See, if you think back, really hard, you might vaguely remember a Platonic guy pal who always seemed to want to spend time with you. He'd tag along with you when you went shopping, stop by your place for a movie when you were lonely but didn't feel like going out, or even sit there and hold you while you sobbed and told him about how horribly the (other) guy that you were fucking treated you.

At the time, you probably joked with your girlfriends about how he was a little puppy dog, always following you around, trying to do things to get you to pay attention to him. They probably teased you because they thought he had a crush on you. Given that his behavior was, admittedly, a little pathetic, you vehemently denied having any romantic feelings for him, and buttressed your position by claiming that you were "just friends." Besides, he totally wasn't your type. I mean, he was a little too short, or too bald, or too fat, or too poor, or didn't know how to dress himself, or basically be or do any of the things that your tall, good-looking, fit, rich, stylish boyfriend at the time pulled off with such ease.

Now, read the two paragraphs above, and you realize a few things. First of all, that Nice Guy®, who was willing to be a friend to a woman? He wasn't nice, and he wasn't her friend. He was choosing to feign niceness in the hopes of getting sex.

Well, can't being nice lead to sex?

Being nice? Sure. But he was "nice." What that entails, as you see above, is that he hung around a woman, saying he was her friend, never telling her that he wanted to have a non-platonic relationship. He just expected she'd know that he wanted her because...well, why else would a guy hang out with a woman? And note that he claims she did, while giving no evidence she did.

Eventually, your Platonic buddy drifted away, as your relationship with the boyfriend got more serious and spending time with this other guy was, admittedly, a little weird, if you werent dating him. More time passed, and the boyfriend eventually cheated on you, or became boring, or you realized that the things that attracted you to him weren't the kinds of things that make for a good, long-term relationship. So, now, you're single again, and after having tried the bar scene for several months having only encountered players and douche bags, you wonder, "What happened to all the nice guys?"

Well, once again, you did.

You ignored the nice guy. You used him for emotional intimacy without reciprocating, in kind, with physical intimacy. You laughed at his consideration and resented his devotion. You valued the aloof boyfriend more than the attentive "just-a-" friend. Eventually, he took the hint and moved on with his life. [Emphasis mine]

I'm breaking that paragraph in two, because that statement deserves highlighting again. You used him for emotional intimacy without reciprocating, in kind, with physical intimacy. How clearer could the Nice Guy®'s antipathy toward this woman, and all women, be? Emotional intimacy, this says, is what women want. Physical intimacy is what men want. I gave, you should have given. Quid pro quo and all that.

Except...men and women both need both physical and emotional intimacy, as anyone with any understanding of humans knows. And the two do not always go hand-in-hand, as anyone with any understanding of humans knows. The Nice Guy® is hampered because all he knows about women comes from his reading of evolutionary psychology and his internalization of patriarchal ideals. And despite his long, enduring friendship with a woman that was so wonderful and giving, he never learned enough about her to find out more.

He probably came to realize, one day, that women aren't really attracted to guys who hold doors open; or make dinners just because; or buy you a Christmas gift that you mentioned, in passing, that you really wanted five months ago; or listen when you're upset; or hold you when you cry. He came to realize that, if he wanted a woman like you, he'd have to act more like the boyfriend that you had. He probably cleaned up his look, started making some money, and generally acted like more of an asshole than he ever wanted to be.

Oh, for the love of the Ceiling Cat.

That is pretty pathetic.

It's not just that. Look, I'm not proud of it, but I'm a recovering Nice Guy®. And I can tell you that there was a time when I sort of bought the nice guy/bad boy crap. But you know what? In real life, most of the "bad boys" are actually, well, nice guys. I'm willing to bet this woman's boyfriend did buy her presents and hold her when she cried and listen when she was upset. That's not to say he was perfect, because nobody is, and he may have even had some downright lousy traits. But that doesn't make him evil; it makes him human.

This is the ultimate failing of the Nice Guy®; he takes away the wrong message from not getting a date with His One True Love. The message he internalizes is that he's too nice. But the reality is that he never states his actual intentions.

There's no crime in being attracted to someone who started as a true platonic friend. But if you're actually a friend, you deal with that like an adult dealing with a friend. You tell them what you're feeling. Maybe you find out that they share your feelings. Maybe you find out they don't. Maybe you feel after that you can stay friends, and maybe you can't.

But if you never make your intentions clear, you can't complain that your One True Love didn't read your mind. If she views you as just a friend, she may think you view her that way too. After all, you say you're her friend, right?

Fact is, now, he's probably getting laid, and in a way, your ultimate rejection of him is to thank for that. And I'm sorry that it took the complete absence of "nice guys" in your life for you to realize that you missed them and wanted them. Most women will only have a handful of nice guys stumble into their lives, if that.

Dude, you're selling men short. Many, I daresay most, guys are nice. They're not perfect, and they've got their own issues, but they're not mean.

But Nice Guy® here? He's not part of that cohort. He's a jerk, a self-centered asshole. And if you doubt that, read his closing:

So, if you're looking for a nice guy, here's what you do:

1.) Build a time machine.
2.) Go back a few years and pull your head out of your ass.
3.) Take a look at what's right in front of you and grab ahold of it.

I suppose the other possibility is that you STILL don't really want a nice guy, but you feel the social pressure to at least appear to have matured beyond your infantile taste in men. In which case, you might be in luck, because the nice guy you claim to want has, in reality, shed his nice guy mantle and is out there looking to unleash his cynicism and resentment onto someone just like you.

If you were five years younger.

So, please: either stop misrepresenting what you want, or own up to the fact that you've fucked yourself over. You're getting older, after all. It's time to excise the bullshit and deal with reality. You didn't want a nice guy then, and he certainly doesn't fucking want you, now.

In short: he hates you now. He wouldn't fuck you with a ten-foot pole, and indeed, he's spending his time banging hot chicks, hotter than you.

How "nice."

You see, a Nice Guy® isn't nice, and never was. He wasn't your friend. He didn't even like you. He was just a guy trying to get in your pants.

Had he been your friend, really been your friend, he wouldn't hate you now. He would value the emotional connection you once shared, while occasionally lamenting that he didn't tell you how he felt when he had the chance. You see, the emotional connection you once shared would have value to him. But it didn't. He didn't care about you, and he wasn't a nice guy.

And the guy (or girl) you're dating now, the one who makes dinner at least half the time and likes to talk to you deep into the night? They're nice. So's your friend who comes over on Tuesdays to watch bad movies. They're not looking to get physical, and if they ever changed their mind, they'd let you know.

But Nice Guy®s don't think like that. Your nice s.o., your nice friends, they like you, and value you for you. The Nice Guy® views you as an object, interchangeable with any other woman out there. And that's all they ever did.

Current mood:  indescribable
I had a bunch of not fun dreams last night. Mostly they involved me not being able to find my way to the 405 from Rita's place (but it was Katie's in my dream), my mom having done a hit and run, bombs going off at Borders by my street and Jake, my family and I having to evacuate our apartment building. It was a lot of frustration and not being able to do anything. Not fun.

But I also had this random moment in the dream where Sandy, Chaplin and Harry came running up to us and I was petting Harry and said "We miss you, Harry." I just petted and hugged him for minutes in my dream. I had this feeling of I could get him back. My poor puppy. I miss him more today than I have in the past week. I think it's cause it felt like he was back for a few brief moments.

In other news: HAPPY HALLOWEEN!
Monday, October 20, 2008
So it's been a week and a day since our Harry left us. Thursday was the last time I really cried. It's still so strange to have him gone. Sometimes I think I hear him click-clicking in the hallway or he's snoring on my bed, but it's not him. I realize I haven't really told you guys what happened with him and I think I really should.

Our Harry had end stage liver failure. He had blood work done and most of his counts were double the normal high average. He had one liver enzyme where the normal high count is 116 and he was at over 10,000. The vet said he probably had this problem for a long time and he just hid his symptoms as animals tend to do. He hid them well. He hid them so well that by the time we noticed it it was too late. We had to put him to sleep.

At this point I wanna say THANK YOU to everyone. To the vet and doctors that did all they could. All of you who have written me encouraging messages and all my friends who have given me hugs and listened to me over and over as I talk about Harry. It really does mean a lot to me.

Monday night we adopted a new puppy. His name is Chaplin and he's 3 months old. He's a chihuahua mix. In a way it feels so rushed to have a new puppy already, but Sandy started to notice that Harry was gone and we didn't want her to get lonely. It's taken about a week for the two to become friends but it looks like they finally really like each other. I know it took me a few days to stop thinking of the new puppy as 'not Harry' and start thinking of him as 'our new puppy Chaplin', but he's so cute you guys. He's adorable and hyper and all that. I'll post some picture in a moment.

So that's that. It's been a week and a day and we're all still really sad. We're all still close to tears but it's getting better. It's funny, last Sunday when Jake and I visited Cory and Rita I saw my horoscope and it said "look to the future, the bad times are behind you." I really hope so cause last Saturday sucked big time.

On a completely different note, Rita and I are going to see VNV Nation on Wednesday. I'm so excited; I haven't been to a concert since Bamboozle Left and I really can't wait. Expect a concert review by the end of this week.
