2Mex, Ceschi, DJ Scientist & Playpad Circus

Europe Tour 2009

In October 2009 the Berlin based record label Equinox Records will proceed the successful story of its first European Tour in 2007. This time, the legendary 2Mex (of the Visionaries) and Ceschi will be the headliners. Furthermore, Playpad Circus and DJ Scientist - two more great artists - are completing the tour line-up respectively.

2Mex (USA / Visionaries, OMD, Songodsuns)

Whether you’re familiar with his catalog or not, it’s safe to say that 2Mex (aka SunGodSuns) is an underground legend. His long list of contributions and collaborative work is staggering. 2Mex pledges allegiance to Visionaries, Of Mexian Descent, Sungodsun, Afterlife, Project Blowed, The Shapeshifters, Look Daggers and The Returners and possibly is one of the most prolific underground rappers ever, with at least 35 CD releases and too many guest appearances to count (including guest appearances on albums by Atmosphere, Abstract Rude, and many others). Through hard work and determination, while touring the globe many times over, he has built a cult-like following that tries to keep up with his massive output. This tour brings 2Mex back to Europe where he is going to present new tracks from his upcoming albums on Grimm Image Records and on Sage Francis’ label Strange Famous.

Ceschi (USA / Anonymous Inc. / Equinox / Fake Four)

"Words could not credit the talents of Ceschi, whether it's rapping, singing, or composing" (Erasoul.com)
Ceschi (pro-nounced Chess-Key) is one of the most unique and best live performers today. Being able to rap, sing, play the guitar, threaten the keys of his casio while simultaneously making beats with his feet on drum pads, he ignites every crowd with ease. Whether it's a big stage or a small pub, you can always count on Ceschi to go all out, resulting in an emotional and exciting, yet unconventional mixture of a classic Hip-Hop show (being backed by DJ Scientist on turntables) and his accoustic performances.
Even though Ceschi constantly performs in the US with better known artists he still is quite unknown in Europe. Some may know him for his experimental post-psych-rock-hop-jazz-fusion outfit Anonymous Inc., a group formed by Ceschi and his brother David in 1994 that came into recognition in 2001 because of genre bending collaborations with underground hip hop rule breakers such as Circus (of Shape Shifters), Dose and Sole (of Anticon).
Others may know Ceschi as a member of the now defunct Toca, a Los Angeles based group whose lineup included Xololanxinxo (Of Mexican Descent) and longtime Shape Shifters collaborator Tommy V - Toca was known for a standout debut appearance on 2005's "Project Blowed 10 year anniversary album" and for a critically applauded album of genre bending pop fusion featuring collaborations with some of LA's finest rappers including Aceyalone, Pigeon John, Busdriver, Ellay Khule and more.
On top of all of this, Ceschi has a promising solo career jump started by the 2004 Beyond Space Entertainment release of "Fake Flowers", an album that some consider to be a "rare accomplishment in hip hop" (ugsmag.com) and "one of the most beautiful releases of [2004]" (movemusics.com). On his 2006 release, "They Hate Francisco False", Ramos merged Beatles-esque melodies over crunk drums, heartfelt hip hop, folk ditties, unpretentious poetry and overall honesty to create what some consider to be a timeless morsel of an album. The decidedly genre-less pieces that make up "They Hate Francisco False" retain a fluidity that feels completely natural and unfeigned. Erasoul.com stated that "Francisco False" is "One of those albums you just have to hear."
His next album "Fallen Famous" (to be released on Equinox Records in late 2009) will contain powerful hip hop anthems such as "Count On It" and "That Same Old Love Song" (feat. 2Mex and Awol One), as well as soulful folk-hop styled compositions such as "Bad Jokes" and "Bridge" where Ceschi paints a semi-fictional story of a one-man-band by the name of "Julius and The Bearded Savior" who stars in an ongoing tale of stardom, deception and failure within an unappreciative music industry.
Fresh off of a nationwide US tour with Sole and Myka, running his own record label "Fake Four Inc", and releasing some of his strongest music to date, in 2009 Ceschi's name will spread further than ever before. So make sure to catch him on his European tour with Equinox and remember the name!

DJ Scientist (GER / Equinox Records)

With Equinox Record's label founder DJ Scientist one of the most respected German DJs and beat producers enters the stage. Starting his DJ career in 1995, he has performed and toured with artists such as Sage Francis, The Pharcyde, Noah23, M.I.A., DJ Faust & DJ Shortee, Sole, Subtitle, DJ Static and many others. In his life shows he is combining hard hitting drumbreaks with smashing psych guitars and a touch of old school hip-hop samples.
Besides investing every minute to keep the label business running and offering high quality music to the sophisticated Equinox listeners he still finds time to follow his passion as a producer. DJ Scientist is responsible for the instrumental part of Ceschi’s new album “Fallen Famous” (released on Equinox/Fake Four in late 2009) and continues to work on various new projects.

Playpad Circus (GER / Equinox Records)

At the very young age of 10, Playpad Circus already started making electronic music with a computer and a keyboard. After being a DJ for several years, he decided to concentrate more on his career as a producer. Since then, he made remixes for a diverse bunch of hiphop and indie/electronica acts such as Subtle (Lex Records), Odd Nosdam (Anticon), 2econd Class Citizen (Equinox), Bleubird (Endemik) and Audio88 while he currently is working on a new solo project and an EP with the Canadian rapper Noah23.
Still at the beginning of his carreer, his unique arrangement skills and production techniques yet made him an established figure in the German electronic and experimental hiphop scene. And besides all that, Playpad Circus is also known as an in demand engineer and mixer working for several artists and labels in Berlin and beyond.
Playing live, Playpad Circus is combining, controlling and remixing a huge variety of breakbeats, loops and electronic sounds, creating a tremendous mashup-monster, the dancefloor won't forget.

Equinox Tour 2007: Ceschi Ramos Biography

Although Ceschi Ramos has been recording and releasing music for nearly a decade, his unique compositions have remained largely unheard. Some may know Ceschi for his experimental post-psych-rock-hop-jazz-fusion outfit "Anonymous Inc.", a group formed by Ceschi and his brother David in 1994 that came into recognition in 2001 because of genre bending collaborations with underground hip hop rule breakers such as Circus of "The Shape Shifters", Dose and Sole of "Anticon".

Others may know Ceschi as a member of "Toca", a Los Angeles based group whose lineup includes Xololanxinxo (Of Mexican Descent) and longtime Shape Shifters collaborator Tommy V - Toca is mainly known for a standout debut appearance on 2005's "Project Blowed 10 year anniversary album" and for their collaborations with some of LA's finest rappers including Aceyalone and Mikah 9 (Freestyle Fellowship), Abstract Rude, 2Mex (Of Mexican Descent/Visionaries), Busdriver, Awol One and many others.

Fans of hardcore, punk and metal may recognize Ceschi's distinct vocal abilities from his role as a lead vocalist in "Dead By Wednesday" who released their critically acclaimed 2005 album "Democracy is Dead" on Jamey Jasta's (Hatebreed/MTV2's Headbanger's Ball) Stillborn Records and have already toured the United States. On top of all of this, Ceschi has a promising solo career jump started by the 2004 Beyond Space Entertainment release of "Fake Flowers", an album that some consider to be a "rare accomplishment in hip hop"( ugsmag.com) and "one of the most beautiful releases of [2004]"(movemusics.com). On his 2006 Net31 Records release, "They Hate Francisco False", Ramos merges Beatles-esque melodies over crunk drums, heartfelt hip hop, folk ditties, unpretentious poetry and overall honesty.

These decidedly genre-less pieces retain a fluidity that feels completely natural and unfeigned. Erasoul.com stated that Ceschi's latest album is "One of those albums you just have to hear. Words could not credit the talents of Ceschi, whether it's rapping, singing, or composing." Fresh off of a series of performances with K Records' artist Little Wings, with a Japanese version of "They Hate Francisco False" being released and a nationwide tour in the works for Toca, 2006 may just be the year for Ceschi's music to be heard.

Ceschi has recorded songs with the following artists:

2Mex and Xololanxinxo
Busdriver
Little Wings (K Records)
The Shape Shifters
Dose One and Sole One of Anticon
Aceyalone and Mikah 9 of Freestyle Fellowship
Pigeon John
and many others....

Equinox Tour 2007: Noah23 Biography

Noah23 is an international hip-hop phenomenon and underground legend who has been rapping for 13 years. He was born in Natchez Mississippi and grew up amongst the indie hotbed of Guelph Ontario Canada. He has performed and sold records independently across the world and recorded over 10 albums. In the late 90's Noah started the highly regarded Plague Language label which released albums from a diverse roster of artists.
Mr. 23 is not your average rapper, with a backround in reggae/ drum & bass/ punk/ country and just about any other influence imaginable, pegging this MC is no easy task. Whether in the studio or freestyling live, Noah23 is an unworldly force of melody, rebellion, rhythym and post modern wit, and is here to stay on the global music scene.

"Noah winds his words up to max capacity, his flow ascending the beat like an anaconda on speed weaving its way up through the banister of a spiral staircase" -COKEMACHINEGLOW.com

"Noah23 is definitely not of this earth. Only someone capable of circular breathing through their skin could rap and sing like this. Nonetheless, a few of his mates do try to keep up. Whereas other emcees have styles or signatures or gimmicks, Noah23 is the first emcee to my knowledge who has had his corpus callosom removed and replaced with an interface connecting his frontal lobe directly into a multi-track and thus his unconscious to the listening world."
-UKHH.com (UK Hip Hop.com)

"Noah23 pulls words and phrases out of the stratosphere and makes them move and sing in laughing, playful rhymes."

Equinox Tour 2007: 2econd Class Citizen Biography

2econd Class Citizen's emergence on the scene has created a buzz of anticipation from a diverse collection of music circles. The young man from Huddersfield, England makes music that he simply calls "Wyred Folk": a hybrid of electronically produced folk combined with instrumental Hip Hop. Swinging between melancholy and pure anger, strong guitar riffs mined from old psych rock records and the weeping voices lifted from old folk music, he seems to find his real home in a crate of old and dusty vinyl.
There is a beat but this is not Hip Hop – at least not as we know it. Yes, there are guitars, but this isn't folk music anymore. An anonymous voice sings of being lonely within a hundred other voices and there is this music with a new sound, yet, somehow, it still is the old sound – the old loneliness. It is just that now we are listening to it again, for the first time – and we want to listen. Here is the feeling that Hip Hop may have lost. But Aaron himself wouldn't dare to say these things so loudly. He just sees himself as an arranger or conductor standing in front of an orchestra of forgotten records, waiting for their time to be played.
In his live sets 2econd Class Citizen is aiming to recreate the complexity and depth of orchestration he has become known for, whilst bringing in musicians and using live sound editing software to keep a strong improvisational aspect.

Equinox Tour 2007 - DJ Scientist Biography

Over the past years, DJ Scientist has become an important figure in the German HipHop and Electronic scene. Running two labels (Equinox and Audiac) and publishing a magazine (DEAD Magazine), he still takes his time to dj at clubs, release mixes, expand his record collection and, last but not least, produce music.
Starting his DJ-career in 1995 and releasing several mixtapes to spread his name in his home town of Munich, he put out his first record in 2001 – a dj tool called "Mad Science Breaks". One year later the dark and melancholic Misantropolis EP, partly produced by him, was the first release on Audiac. Since then, DJ Scientist put his main effort into his label Equinox Records, which now has its headquarters in Berlin. In 2005 he produced 3 tracks for the critically acclaimed "Welcome to the Neo Golden Age – A Sound Exposure Vol.1" Compilation. Being part of the Equinox 10inch Series, his 4 track "Journey Goodbye EP" (2006) contained the outstanding "Atarius" as well as the dreamy vibes of "Atumn Leaves". Recently the Dedicated Beatheads (consisting of him and Snatchatec) released a furious Mix-CD called "Sound Convention Vol.1", shortly followed by a Remix 12" to be heard on dancefloors across Europe.
Besides other projects, DJ Scientist is currently working on a second part of the Sound Exposure compilation series. It will feature artists like Free The Robots (LA), Arcsin (New York), Aqua Luminus (Munich), Emynd (Philadelphia), Vangel (Canada), Deckard (Munich), and many others.

DJ Scientist has performed with artists such as Sage Francis, The Pharcyde, Noah23, M.I.A., DJ Faust & DJ Shortee, DiViNCi, Subtitle, Boca45, The Tape, DJ Static & 88:Komaflash. He was the resident DJ at Clubs like Atomic Café (Munich), Erste Liga (Munich), Poetry Slam (Munich), Rap History Party (Zurich), Munichs Overflow (Munich)
