Now, the first two full lenght songs from the album is available for you spacers. Two songs from side B(oogie). It has been hard work but now it is done for fuck sake! We are proud, but got tired, poor and almost stupid while recording.

It is now time for you to tell us what you think about it. Release is scheduled for February 2010. Stay tuned.

(Pre-order available in a month or so.)

Hi there, everybody!

We are, and have been, in the middle of a very intense period of mixing and mastering our upcoming album. But we haven't forgotten you! We'll be back sooner than you think, with handclapping news about the release, the party that goes along with it, and everything else on Planet Ulk. Until then, boogie safe!

With our heads stuck in finishing the recordings for the upcoming boogie bastard vinyl, we've been embarassly low frequent on updating this blog. But we're still here, and we're still looking forward to play live for you!
At the moment a small BeNeLux tour is being planned for early 2010. As soon as all dates are verified, we'll let you know.
Check back soon, and check back often!

February isn't that far away:

Lots of water passed under the bridges of Jonsered since we started to record this album. And it was said that we would keep things simple, recording totally live, not to many additional instruments to be put down on tape.

Well, we changed our minds. It sounded a lot better recording each instrument separatly. Much because we are the optimists of time and therefor, maybe a bit head over heals with some decisions.

But we are on track and almost finished. We took a small and final break, just before the last bits and pieces are going to get glued together.
Then this baby is ready for analog mixing.

Now, for those about to work, I salute thee.

Daniel is putting vocals on tape. It sounds cool as fudge! I am in the studio sofa, giving all my support. Our health is ok, say hi and give our regards to the eggs. /Thomas

Yes, the album with a new breed of Boogie will hit y'all like a massive Volvo truck rolling off a hilltop in February. But there is a chance to get a dose of the Marulk experience much sooner than that! On Friday, Dec 4th, we'll do a show with Pack of Wolves where a few songs will be premiered for the first time ever - miss it at your own peril!

Haket, Första Långgatan, Dec 4th.
Boogie.

Yes, the voice - shape is back!

We started off this saturday with a smoking boogie track, our only one sung in Swedish for this album. The song has been with us for a while and we have played a few live shows with it in the setlist, it seems that people like a swedish diversion from our usual sound. Hovever, it still feels a bit weird to sing in our native language...
Finally the song fell into place with a hard-as-nails verse and an addictive as well as effective chorus :-)

Now it's just the rest to go!

The bass recordings went smooth as Egyptian whisky, now we have a rock solid foundation for the vocals.
Yesterday we did a first tryout for lead tracks and experimenting with some overdubs and harmonies. Too bad Dannes vocal cords have been on vacation since the Finland tour in May... So now it's a slow working to get in shape for smoking performances for the album!
But as always, the Ulk will deliver - stay tuned for a larger video teaser with real songclips soon!

Marulk Studio Preview

[16 Sep 2009 | Wednesday] 08:23
After endless obstacles, some low freq sounds are finally recorded! 4 tracks were recorded last night with satisfying results :-)

Gear Slut section:
Duesenberg Star Bass
GHS strings 105 - 45, tuned DGCF
Boss tuner
Moody Sounds HjärtMüller
Markbass R500 head/Peavey Standard 260
Mesa Vintage Powerhouse 4x12" cab
[14 Sep 2009 | Monday] 09:17
The bass amp saga continues.

With a humongous 4x12 Mesa cab now safely tucked into the studio, the low frequency air is certainly pumping!
However, just for kicks, I tried both my amps with the cab. My normal amp is a almost new Markbass R500, lightweight yet 500 W tone monster with a price tag of around 1000 - 1200 Euros. Sounds good with the cab, obviously.

The other amp is a beaten Peavey Standard from the 70's sometime, that I found abandoned in an attic. 130 Watts and some goofy period sound effects etc.
This amp sounds almost BETTER with the Mesa cab than the Mark... And almost as loud, despite the humble power rating.

Have I spent a fortune on an amp head when I had the tone I was looking for just lying around?
In any case - I will propaby never buy another speaker cab than Mesa ever again, that cab seems to bring out the best from everything else...

To be continued...?
