Time to put Undercurrents II at the top, my piece of floaty ambience from the last album "Vision On" in 2007.

It opens with Monty Oxy Moron's solo piano, moving into a continuous keyboard drone involving three chords by me. Chris Cordrey's hammer dulcimer makes an appearance and the track finishes with some Nichiren Shoshu Buddhist chanting. The idea behind the chanting of "Nam Myo Ho Renge Kyo" is to tune in to one's higher self and the universe, spreading world peace. Good karma!

After strumming a guitar in Berlin and some concentrated work in the Hove studio with Monty and Julian, new Burness music has begun to take shape. We will be taking it v-e-r-y s-l-o-w-l-y... early signs are that much of it will be in a different musical direction to the last album.

Peace,

Tim

Given the current situation in Westminster, I thought it was time to put this first on the playlist.

I originally wrote this song in 1981, final version recorded in 1988.

All voices by me!

Hi all!

I am featured in a recently uploaded podcast at http://www.epilepticgibbon.co.uk.

Mr. Gibbon and myself had a great time doing the interview, thanks to Ian and his assistant for giving me the opportunity to mumble about myself and my music, amongst other things. There is some progrock, punk, ambient stuff (including a track from Tuu), a track from one of my musical influences (not what you might expect?) and also some er... comedy!

Some topics covered in the interview include: ex-Pendragon drummer Fudge Smith's contribution to my last two albums, how I met Monty Oxy Moron from The Damned and how his classical style (comparisons have been made with Tony Banks and Keith Emerson) fits with being in a punk band, and how I have spirituality coming out of my bottom.

Most of the best music I've done over the last 25 years is in there. I hope some of you find it entertaining.

Love and good vibes, Tim xxx

Hello all!

Since June I've been more of a MySpace regular. A big thank you for all the messages and comments, they really have been appreciated . And a big apology to anyone who I haven't got back to, one does one's best but I don't always have a lot of time to reply to everyone properly.

Domestic and financial problems screwed up the first half of my 2008, so I couldn't give the last album anything like as much promotion as planned. A possible band was coming together, but in the end I had to cancel even the few solo gigs I had lined up. As things stand now, I am quite happy to give my own music a rest for a while, at least during 2009 and maybe longer. I have been here before and always eventually come back to it with a vengeance. We shall see.

Stay groovy if you possibly can in this crazy  old world! Tim

The following was posted on my Wordpress blog last month.

"Theo and myself are in the middle of updating my main site (www.timburness.com) at the moment and I'm putting up links to a selection of the album reviews we've had over the last few months. I think it would be fair to say that the consensus is that "Vision On" is a good but maybe not exceptionally good album. Unfortunately in this day and age of massive competition in an over-saturated market, this is not really good enough! But I can only do my best and as always, a few people at least have genuinely "got" the whole thing of what I'm on about. THANK YOU again to those of you have listened or promoted my music in any way whatsoever, it really is appreciated on a deep level.

As usual there are a number of reviewers who don't like my vocals. I've noticed that this seems to be a relatively common view among many "progressive rock" reviewers, whereas listeners from a broader or poppier background tend not to have a problem with my singing. In fact many people (particularly in connection with the last few albums) have told me they really like my singing. My voice will never be particularly powerful and I guess this will always put some people off my music. Should I take some of the reviewers advice and get in another singer in future? Easier said than done. We shall see. I'm likely to take a different musical direction next time round anyway, vocals may not even feature.

Many people familar with my music in the long-term say that "Vision On" is the best whole album I've made and I tend to agree with this. However, I know I can do a lot better. Time and money tend to be big limitations and given how my life has gone since soon after releasing the album, I'm just glad I managed to get something out there while I still had the chance.

Not many people are buying it. As probably everyone reading this knows, not that many people are buying CDs by anyone these days. So there are now several free tracks available from my site, with an option to buy. Ideally I would love to be making some money back from my music, but the most important thing to me has always been BEING HEARD."

More tracks from the album up here soon.

Season's greetings and all that jazz,

The new Tim Burness album is finally getting out there, with the first promotional copies and sales having gone out over the last few days. It is technically a December 2007 release, but in reality it will be making its impact in early 2008. Thank you again to all the musicians who contributed, and Julian Tardo in the studio in Hove for his patience and hard work. And thank you to those of you have supported me on MySpace, you know who you are!

It is mostly a return to my er... "progressive rock" roots. As some of you know, I have experimented with all sorts of musical styles down the years and some examples of this can be found at my main website www.timburness.com. Over the last few years however, I have found my way back to many of those late seventies sounds that first inspired me, and in fact "Vision On" is pretty close to the sort of thing I was trying to do with my band Burnessence in the eighties.

Happy New Year to all!

Tim B.

Well here I am on MySpace at last, only about two years behind everyone else but better late than never I guess. I have had reservations about the whole MySpace ownership thing, plus ideally I would rather be spending less time in front of a computer screen! I intend to use this as an occasional music blog, posting the most important news and developments. You can find a more general blog at http://www.timburness.wordpress.com which is updated every week or so, there's all sorts of stuff about the rest of my life and other interests on that one. Wishing you everything you wish for yourself, love and peace, Tim B.
