Current mood:  nauseated

Ahh...hello again

I've been busy writing stuff with His Geekiness lately, mostly for the TV series but for live shows as well.

My latest songs are all about feeling a little on the unwell side, not that I've been sick - just that the geek keeps talking about saliva and it completely grosses me out!

Not very rock, you say, well you try standing next to him and holding a container full of his fake spit when he's talking about all sorts of disgusting stomach things and try not feeling ill.

Anyway, I got him back - but you'll  have to wait to see exactly how.

PS We've got new stuff for the Carols by The Creek in Mitcham on the 2nd of December so you have to come along, it's the only Adelaide Christmas show with a Nativity Play as part of the night - c you there :)

Review by
Stephen Davenport

"It's Rocket Science" is an amusing and educational romp that parents will enjoy as much as their children. Rock Chick and Science Geek's exuberant, joyful performance turns "It's Rocket Science" playful scientific experiments into a hilarious, interactive, rocking good time.

Rock Chick (Susi D) supplies the vibe, a few jokes and is often the fall girl while self confessed Science Geek (David Lampard) wears his Super-geek underpants on the outside as he explains why things float or fly.

It's funny without resorting to cheap humor; it's educational without being stuffy; and it's clever without being manipulative. Most importantly, it really does rock. Science Geek, with the aid of some willing and some not so willing volunteers, deftly guides the audience through a series of experiments and songs, as he explains the science behind flight. It's a kind of rock laboratory Never Never Land. Here you'll learn how tea bags float, perfume can be rocket fuel and the secrets behind gravity, lift, thrust and drag.

That Science Gang provides a welcome reminder that education can be fun, a little bit slapdash while not being dumbed down, and science need not be impersonal.

With its energetic tunes, highly contagious song lyrics and zany fun pitched at the right tempo, "It's Rocket Science" combines hefty laughs with learning all done with heart. Where school lessons fail "It's Rocket Science" achieves without confusion or pretentiousness. It certainly isn't rocket science; it's much more fun than that. It launches the audience into an unpredictable orbit and then brings them back to earth disgracefully.

This is a funny situation - The geek has no sporting interest or ability (don't tell him I said that) what-so-ever and we are heading down to the Crows Shed on Sunday to do a footy show!

I personally think it's great because the Crows are my fave team, I've been following their form all year and I've kicked the footy around once or twice myself.

The unfortunate thing that happened was I didn't do my usual warm up stretching and when I kicked the sherrin I promptly tore my hamstring.....OOOOOOOWWWWCH.

Needless to say, a few physiotherapy appointments later, I'm still recovering and I've stayed well clear of footy's in the mean time. The worst part of it all is that I've had to miss 3 weeks (so far) of playing sport - which I love and on top of that, I've had to deal with His Lordship having one over me.

Right have to sign off...will be back later

  It's Rock, It's Science - It's Rocket Science

June 16 - Something on Saturday - Festival Theatre Banquet Room

And we're off...we've just done 2 of the brand spanking new shows we've just finished writing. It's always scary doing new stuff, will people like it? are the experiments cool enough?

Well, we had a great time - with two full houses and the quickest selling show for Something on Saturday, and how cool the audiences were.

I'd been writing song after song and had been rather excited about playing them for the first time and the Geek had been pouring over the experiments from massive hot air balloons to very cool rockets to launch during the last song.

The show was all about flight and we had volunteers left right and centre wanting to come up on stage as soon as we played the riff for the volunteer song. As luck would have it, the first volunteer we had up was a dude that worked for British Aerospace - how cool is that!?

The Geek tried to explain Newton's theory using me as a scapegoat - bad move! I did the world's cutest experiment and there were all sorts of stories and rock songs. I tried to make Lord Geeky fall over by making him spin over and over again and I reckon my two favourite songs were probably, Such a drag & It's Rock, it's Science...but my favourites change hourly

So if you've only seen the first show, or want to see the new one again with your mates, get your socks along to our next shows in the July school holidays - 18-21 @ The Odean (Norwood). Book early because we will sell out - everybody loves rockets and flying

Turn it up to 11

Ahhh....my first ever RocK Chick blog

Penola - 20 May 07

I've got so much to write about - here goes...I recently ventured out of the confines of the city to travel to the lovely Penola for the Coonawarra Arts Festival

Now it had been a few sleeps between the last shows so I was very keen to power up my beautiful valve amp and rock out. Jarrad was in fine form and the Geek was his usual self and panicking about  hydrogen balloons and possibly the end of the world - I never really know what's going on in his head, bless him.

I must say all the little people of Penola know how to rock out with a capital 'R' - a 1 & a 3 year old started a kiddy mosh pit and there was no turning back...I was so proud that I almost shed a tear, but headbutted a bubble instead (much to the disappointment of the peeps in the front row hoping to do it themselves)

We had a great time on stage and everything was going smoothly until I took over the Geek's experiment of the exploding coke bottle.

It was all planned before - I had a practise run and was feeling very confident that I would do far better than Mr Geek (or at least be cooler than him). We bought the bucket onto the floor, which immediately meant a rush of excited childrenoids towards the stage - I did a little stage management and told them they would be soaked if they stood too close, they didn't seem to care...I carefully undid the lid of the very bubbly coke bottle and got ready to empty the mentos.

I should mention at this stage that the bottle had been warmed and the base was not as flat as it had previously been when I tried the experiment the first time*

*An important side note

I emptied the mentos into the bottle and jumped back to see my result, as I turned to see the spectacular fountain, the bottle had slumped a little towards me and was projecting a 5 - 6 metre stream of bubbly coke. I did what any self respecting Rock Chick would do and ran, but not quick enough and ended up with half the bottle on top of me and the other half landing resoundingly on my pedal board!

Eager to maintain my coolness, I was quick to regain my composure and pretended nothing had happened at all, then spread towels out to cover the damning evidence against me. As I returned to the stage with coke dripping from my hair, I remember thinking "hmm, I wonder if my guitar will still work?"

Well it did and we ended up with a very big rock finish and I'd like to personally thank all of those who came along, we had a great time and my pedals didn't skip a beat. My hair returned to its former state of un-stickiness later that evening and all ended marvellously.

Rock on
