Current mood:  grateful
My grandfather, Dr. German G. Escano, M.D. is my biggest hero. Why? Well there are many reason for this. His life accomplishments and his life, period, is the dream every person in the world wishes to have.

He grew up in a small town in Colombia, near the town he met my grandmother, they didn't know each other then. My grandfather went to college in Cartegena and became one of the youngest doctor to graduate from medical school in Colombia. He then immigrated to Ellis Island, with less than 50 cents in his pockets. He recieved his green card, and soon became an American Citizen. He moved to California to attend the University of San Diego to recieve his medical degree in the Pulmonary and Respiratory Field.
During the Vietnam war he was behind enemy lines as a medical officer and served 2 years in Tokyo during the war. He recieved the rank of Major as well. When the war ended he recieved an Honorable Discharge and because of his status was the most well respected and one of the best Pulmonary and Respiratory Doctor in the United States and to the United States Army. He started his own practice in Downtown Orlando and found benchmarks in the Respiratory field. He also started the Pulmonary/Respiratory center and department in the Florida hospital and all across the United States. His benchmarks are still followed today. For over 30 years he served as a Doctor for Florida Hospital and was the Medical Director. He wrote columns for the New England journal, which is one of the most highly respected medical journals in the world. His coleagues and his station in the Florida Hospital was one of the best, if not the best in the United States at it's time and his station was the highest rated and best in the United States. The Alatamonte Springs Florida Hospital was partially designed by him. He retired in 2001, having saved hundreds, if not thousands of lives. He pension, was well surpassed the million dollar mark.

He married my grandmother in 1962 and they've been married ever since. During all this he also had the time to be a professional photographer, and a loving father to 4 daughter's. One them including my mom. He was recently diagnosed with cancer and just recently beat it.

He's my grandfather. He's the American Dream. I love you Weyo.
