It is with much disappointment that we have to announce the cancellation of all of our forthcoming gigs.

Due to some unavoidable personal circumstances we cannot perform the gigs with our full line up

and we feel that this would not do justice to our recorded work.

Many apologies to those who who have bought tickets and arranged transport and accommodation, and also to everyone involved in the organization of them.

We really appreciate your support and hope that you can obtain adequate refunds.

There are no plans to reschedule the gigs at the present time.

Sorry for any inconvenience,

Engineers.

Current mood:  validated
Hello,
At the moment we are currently working out when and where we will play live. I should be able to post something in the next week or so. Yesterday a compilation of all the singles released on the Sonic Cathedral Label was released featuring two tracks by Daniel Land and the Modern Painters. I co - produced and mixed the tracks with Ulrich Schnauss and play slide guitar on 'Within the boundries'. The album also features Sarabeth Tucek (with whom I toured with last year), School of Seven Bells, Maps and M83.

Dan and I also recently completed a remix of 'Abandoner' by Steven Wilson which is available to stream on Kscope's site.

Thanks,
Mark.

Some albums I've been listening to :

Serena Maneesh - SMbackwards
Bill Callahan - Sometimes I wish we were an eagle
Spiritualized - Fucked up inside
Deerhunter - MicroCastle/Weird Era continued
Dot Allison - An Exhaltation of Larks
Animal Collective - Merriweather Post Pavillion
Cluster - Sowiesoso

Read the American tour diary! Engineers supported Bloc Party on their latest tour of America.

---------------------------------------------------------------

When I was talking to Tony about bands in America I never thought that Id be in that situation myself. But as I write this Im eating some Mike and Ike Original Fruits which I picked up on a short tour of the East Coast. Theyre a bit like Starburst Joosters but they dont even pretend to have any fruit in them. Its unadulterated sugar. They like sugar in America. Take Cinnabons. They sell them in service stations. Theyre like a spiral of sweet suet interlaced with a cinnamon sugar syrup and then topped with a sort of warm vanilla cream. Imagine if you got a Mr. Kipling cupcake (not chocolate , the pink and yellow ones) and melted the topping thats probably how youd get the cream. They serve them up in packs of six. Six! One of them has you chewing the headrest and making high-pitched mewling sounds. Serve with a bucket of Starbucks vanilla latte and you could punch your way through Perspex. Nursing a hangover in the services on the way to Philadelphia I sought redemption in the shape of a Vege Pack that came with a low fat ranch dressing. It contained a floret of Broccoli, a flower of cauliflower and a lot of bleached bland carrot sticks. A woman came up behind me and gave me a friendly pat on the shoulder. She was wearing grey cycling shorts, a baseball cap, fanny pack and billowing t-shirt: where do you get all that healthy stuff? and then she was gone. For some Cinnabons.

Is that all I talk about? Food? Well in that case lets begin at the beginning. In-flight meals. Boy! Propped up with your elbows glued to your ribs, holding that little plastic knife and fork like a couple of pencils. Chicken or beef? Like a mantra. Identify yourself. Chicken or beef? Would you like a drink? Yes some wine. Would you like another bottle with your meal? Are you kidding me? Then a walk. We dont want deep thought psychosis. Go for a walk to the bathroom. Sway nervously. The seatbelt signs ding on and someone starts hammering on the door as the gulf stream throws up another pocket of turbulence. On the plus side the alternative radio channel is rotating two albums. Engineers and Bloc Party, the band were supporting in America.

We get to JFK, Sweeneys left his mobile on the plane and then were queuing up for our guitars by the carousel with a metal band called Testament. They were big in the nineties and played Donnington and they were wearing big, mirrored aviators and had menacing tattoos. Some of their gear had been damaged en route but ours hadn't (an auspiscious portent) and we went on to customs. It was super-strict but my customs guy was Italian American and wished me luck.

So we went out into a hot and humid afternoon. A big black Ford was waiting for us, seats facing forward and cargo all in the same compartment. Matt drove us and we saw a lot of jeeps full of muscled frat boys hanging out the back and driving on the pavement to avoid traffic jams. We got directions from some Mexicans hanging out of the sunroof of their Camry and Ive never seen four redder rimmed eyes in my life. Needless to say, in a world where you can undertake and overtake and trucks barrel down the hard shoulder we were already getting nervous about having to drive ourselves to Washington on the Thursday. Its four hours away and on a main trade artery. Youve all seen Duel? Well you get the picture.
