First of all, let me just say that I had never had the opportunity to attend a show at Limelight until now and boy, was I impressed! Limelight is without a doubt one of the coolest places to be in Nashville!
Small Axe opened the show with a few of their original tunes. I only caught the last part of their set, but what I did get to hear was well arranged and had a great beat!
Paradise Daze followed up with a truly awesome performance. These guys are undoubtedly at the top of the Nashville reggae scene. Lead singer Matt Daughtry has a voice that is meant for reggae music. It’s easy flowing quality goes hand in hand with the band as a whole. This is a band you can listen to and chill, beer in hand.
In between sets, DJ Wick-It kept the party going by spinning everything from Britney Spears to Johnny Cash. He made each song irresistibly danceable and fresh. What impressed me most about Wick-It was his ability to make each song flow seamlessly to the next.
Next up was the amazingly talented band,
The Running. I was completely unprepared for just how fabulous these guys were going to be. I was expecting straight up reggae but what I got was a phenomenal blend of so many different musical styles that they have truly created their own brand of music. Lead singer MikeDub’s voice is bluesy and edgy yet he spills out the lyrics to their songs with the precision of artists like Sean Paul.
The Running’s brilliant bass player, Christ was made for the stage. He is as fascinating to watch, as he is talented. The exceptionally gifted drummer Andy lends an understated cool yet incredibly sexy vibe to the band. My favorite tune of theirs was Body Rock. This song seemed to be a crowd pleaser and a fan favorite. These guys had quite a following at their show and I can totally see why! I know I have been made a fan! This band is a must-see!
The show closed with a set from the band Capital Fresh. These guys have a sound that is reggae fused with hip hop and rap. It is extremely rare that you find a drummer that is also the front man of the band and is actually really good at it. This guy is the exception! He had a smooth voice and could even beat box with the best of them! I would definitely like to catch these guys again.
