Yeah I know it's Wimbledon and mildly irritating to get to. But I promise to play the theme from the Wombles in country blues fashion by way of recompense. At Bertie's Bar at the Prince of Wales opposite Wimbledon tube.

Actually that should quite possibly read "FIVE PINTS". Or possibly "SIX". The specifics are hazy.
Disgraced myself at the Spoonful of Poison open mic last night. It's better than the average open mic night (ie no-one trying to sound like Damien Rice or Tori Amos or U2 or Alanis Morissette). But by golly does it go on a bit. Signed up at 7pm. Hit the stage circa 11.15. By which time I was filthy. I had had several spoonfuls of poison. Or rather several liverfulls of wife-beater.
Gave up on a tricky fingerpickery number after a humiliatingly inept first verse. Just about dribbled out two remedial takes on easier tunes. Ms Stella Artois had stolen my guitar and replaced it with some immense 6,000-stringed alien mechanism wrought of vicious cheesewire and unresonant chipboard, with a metre-deep neck and mile-wide frets. She had also turned my hands into boxing gloves and removed the cells from my brain. She had rendered me a spaz. Oh but she is a cruel mistress.
Fortunately pretty much everyone had left. I would also like to take this opportunity to apologize to the preceding act for heckling their set. Even though it was very poor. In the circumstances, this was a bit fucking rich. Sorry.
Oh and I'm not actually listening to Dave Evans' Sad Pig Dance though it's doubtless a very good album. I'm actually listening to Dave Evans' The Words In Between, a brilliant early 70s folk album that's like Nick Drake but better. I've never really 'got' Nick Drake. Hey, I notice Sad Pig Dance was released on my birthday! Yes - I am in fact only 8 years old!
 | Currently listening: Sad Pig Dance By Dave Evans Release date: 29 June, 1999 |
