AFTA-1 featuring Nikko Gray
You can find AFTA-1 eight hours in the future. He’s sitting on a supernova, shooting down Pluto moons with love; then running back and laying the track in your lap. Brush the moon dust off your clothes and plug in your speakers for a shape-shifting, time-collapsing, body-breaking, heart-merging experience.
With an amazing debut titled Aftathoughts Vol. 1 already under his belt along with impressive remixes of Esthero, Little Dragon, and Jessie Boykins, as well as the ravenously downloaded LOVE IS REAL mixtape series in circulation, Afta-1 is set to blow your mind with his intergalactic beats and ethereal vibes.

A new artist on the block, Nikko Gray has nevertheless been making a name for herself with her sexy vocals and penchant for progressive beats. She blew minds in 2009 by tackling Aaliyah's classic "4-Page Letter" with Afta-1 on the beats. Be prepared for her debut performance with Afta-1 only at Strictly Social.

Strictly Social is proud to present THE NU-SOUL MAGAZINE 3-YEAR ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION
Wednesday October 21, 2009
Launched in October 2006, Nu-Soul Magazine has blossomed into a
focal point of the international progressive soul community with
in-depth interviews, comprehensive reviews, and top level events. For
our third anniversary we are going all out with an impressive roster of
critically acclaimed talent, gift bags, special vendors, and other
surprises!
Featuring performances from:
JOY JONES
Afro-beat lullabies, future jazz protest songs and electronic hymns
is how Joy Jones would best describe the collection of ditties that is
her debut full-length album, Godchild. As a kid, Joy was
exposed to an array of different styles of music ranging from gospel,
soca, classical, African choral music, soul and jazz - and this, along
with inspirational places and events, all helped prompt Joy Jones to
put her heart and soul into music. Be prepared for a truly eclectic
performance from this honorary Ladybug in the Attic.
DIVINE BROWN
For years, musical powerhouse Divine Brown (formerly Divine Earth
Essence) has been quietly carving out her own history on the Canadian
R&B and soul circuit. Divine has returned with a tour-de-force
album, a virtual trip through both the last half-century of soul music
and the roller-coaster ride of love dubbed – appropriately – The Love Chronicles. The Love Chronicles
spans everything from bop-shoo-bop secret crush confessions to sassy
surf ‘n’ soul kiss-offs to sultry late-night neo-soul, all held
together by Divine’s magnificent, shape-shifting voice.
SLAKAH THE BEATCHILD
Slakah The Beatchild represents the evolution of the enigmatic
producer. If an artist is going to get by in ‘08 they have to be a
musical multi-tasker and Slakah fits perfectly into that lane. He’s a
musical chameleon whose gifts are only truly realized in the presence
of other talented artists and musicians. This is why The Soul Movement Vol. 1
is such an effective introduction to this kid’s budding abilities.
Featuring collaborations from the cream of Canada’s burgeoning talent
(Drake, Tona, Divine Brown, Shad, Melanie Durrant, Ray Robinson,
Ebrahim and so many others) the album is feel-good new soul with enough
of a world-inflected influence to keep it fresh.
PAOLA JEAN
Paola Jean crafts authentic music. With each song on Right On Time,
the multi-national songstress weaves a compelling full-length album
textured with haunting organic and electric instrumentation,
soul-stirring guitar melodies and riveting funk, which to the virgin
listener, sounds influenced by the likes of Jill Scott, India.Arie,
Alicia Keys and Adriana Evans.
SHOW BEGINS AT 10:30PM SHARP
In the B Room - SOUL GOOD, soulful electronica hosted by Atlantic
Connection - a voyage into downtempo, deep house, and soulful
drum&bass
This special event will feature some additional sponsors taking part in the fun to make the night even more memorable.
Plus lots of other goodies, treats, and surprises!
Admission is FREE until 10:30pm with an RSVP to events@nu-soulmag.com with the subject Nu-Soul 3-year

WAYNA
(2009 Grammy Nominee - Urban Alternative)
What a year it has been for Ethiopian-born singer/songwriter Wayna. Her single “Moonlight Rendezvous” from the LP Higher Ground
charted the Billboards for seven consecutive weeks, peaking at #3 on
the Hot R&B Singles chart and #12 on Billboard's Hot 100. The
follow-up single, “My Love” an impassioned plea to the loved ones of
abused women, spent six consecutive weeks on Billboard, peaking at #2
on the Hot R&B Singles chart and #12 on the Hot 100. Under her
record label, Keradion Music Group, Wayna closed out the year by
garnering a coveted Grammy nomination in the Best Urban/Alternative
Performance Category for her remake, “Lovin You (Music) featuring
Kokayi” in a category populated by such talents as Chrisette Michele,
Janelle Monae, and Will.I.Am.
With her sophomore effort, Higher Ground, Wayna indeed
reaches new and daring heights, experimenting with broken beat and
progressive hip hop, while remaining true to her roots in classic soul
and contemporary R&B. Featuring performances from underground
standouts Kenn Starr, Muhsinah, and Kokayi, and production from
longtime collaborators Kev Brown and RoddyRod, Higher Ground offers a thrilling blend of infectious melodies, colorful lyrics, and dirty drums.

Collette is an r&b/soul singer from South Carolina whose jazzy
vocals and hip-hop sensibility combine for an exciting debut entitled
“Experience Collette” available now. The entirely self-written and
partially self-produced CD project is an honest offering from a young,
sincere singer. With tracks such as “Live Your Life” and the single
“You Don’t Know,” Collette writes of real life experiences with an
overall positive outlook on life. The product of a gospel singing
mother, Collette bares her soul with each performance.
