It was an easy money bet that Floyd “Money” Mayweather wouldn’t stay in retirement. Is it due to financial problems stemming from the IRS or ego problems stemming from the love affair that boxing fans and writers have with the man who ascended to Mayweather’s former “Best Boxer in the World” status, Manny Pacquiao. Since Mayweather couldn’t get Pacquiao for this fight, he is taking on the man who is recognized as the “2nd Best Boxer in the World”, the man who gave Pacquiao two of his toughest and most-closely contested bouts, Juan Manuel Marquez. It will be an intriguing match-up of Mayweather’s speed and flash against Marquez’s consistency and steady attack. Is Mayweather back as the gold standard? Or will Marquez send the “Money” market crashing? Click on the link to read the full article: http://unlimitedfightnews.com/wordpress/?p=4099

Just a few days ago, we were stunned by the death of Arturo Gatti. I was always a big fan of his so the news of his passing was especially hard. In tribute, I combined an old tribute article I wrote a few years ago with an intro containing the recent tragic events. Here is my article link to the website. If you like the article, please do me a favor and leave a comment on the website page (there is a comment section at the bottom). Please feel free to share this with others in the boxing community. I would greatly appreciate it. http://unlimitedfightnews.com/wordpress/?p=3279Thank you, Tornado

Check out the lastest postings on Fight News Unlimited including a poem I wrote about Rocky Marciano in 1999 and an article from the South Philadelphia Italian Newsletter in 2004 http://unlimitedfightnews.com/wordpress/?p=3148My colleague Rich Bergeron has been doing some work for the Rocky Marciano Foundation. He has made a number of improvements to their website. Check it out at www.rockymarcianofoundation.org - They have some great merchandise, including the shirt I am wearing in the photo below, on there and the proceeds benefit scholarships for students.

On June 11, "Rabble Rousin" Rich Bergeron and "The Tornado" Tony Penecale will be welcoming a very special guest to the Fight News Unlimited Combat Sports Show. We will be speaking with Hank Tartaglia, a friend of the late great Rocky Marciano. Hank still lives in Rocky's former house and he bartends at George's Cafe in Brockton, which is like a Marciano museum. Rich (a Boston guy) and I (a Philly guy) met up at Fenway park this past weekend and decided to record this intro. We didn't rehearse it and just did it on the fly. Rich lives in the town next to Brockton and I grew up idolizing Marciano so this interview with Mr. Tartaglia should be a very good one. My great uncle attended the fight in Philadelphia when Marciano KO'd Jersey Joe Walcott to win the heavyweight title. I still have the original program and ticket from that fight. The interview will be on our website Thursday, June 11 @ 8:00 pm EST and it will also be archived on our site. PS - My cousin did the filming and either though she couldn't figure out the very difficult "OFF" button, she did a good job!

Here is my preview & prediction for tomorrow night's welterweight showdown between Antonio Margarito and Shane Mosley. Comments and feedback in the Comments Section is greatly appreciated!!! For years, the idea of fighting Antonio Margarito was about as appealing as getting a root canal. There was high risk and minimal reward for taking on the tough but mostly obscure Mexican known as “The Tijuana Tornado”. But in the last year, he has become a breakout star in the boxing world with his impressive performances on HBO, dismantling Kermit Cintron and Miguel Cotto. Shane Mosley has been a star in the boxing world for over a decade. Combining a wonderful blend of speed, power, and charisma, “Sugar Shane” became marquee when he beat Oscar De la Hoya back in 2000. His star has somewhat faded but it still has some sparkle to it. Margarito is looking at a lucrative rematch with Cotto while Mosley would like nothing better than to disrupt those plans. Will “Sugar Shane” be too Sweet for Margarito? Or will “The Tijuana Tornado” blow Mosley away?Click the link below for the complete articlehttp://unlimitedfightnews.com/wordpress/?p=2550

Carlos Monzon had the record for middleweight title defenses. He was tough, strong, and vicious. Bernard Hopkins broke that record in 2002. Many see Hopkins now as a boring defensive fighter but in his prime, The Executioner carried a sharp axe.
What would happen if they met in their primes???
I wrote an article with an analysis of what would happen. It is available at the link below. Don't forget to vote in the poll at the bottom of the article.

Current mood: devious
Hey Everybody,
I have some big news for my radio show on Thursday, August 14. Some of you may know, but for the others, I will clue you in. Since January, I have been working as the co-host of the Fight News Unlimited Combat Sports Online Radio Show. We cover all aspects of fight news including Boxing, UFC, MMA, etc. I am the resident boxing expert and I also help schedule some of the guests.
We have had some up-and-comers like Philadlephia's Hammerin' Hank Lundy. We've had my fellow Lock Haven Univ alum Chuck Mussachio. Chris Arreola, Simon "One Punch" Carr, ring announcer and boxing aficionado Larry Tornambe, and former top-ranked fighter and current trainer John "Iceman" Scully. We have also had some very intriguing guests in the field of mixed martial arts including "The World's Most Dangerous Man" Ken Shamrock.
Well, if you are a boxing fan. Or if you are Italian!!! Or an Italian boxing fan, then I got a treat for you!!!
Recently I was able to schedule possibly our biggest interview to date - "The Pazmanian Devil" Vinny Paz (formerly Pazienza). Anybody who knows me knows that I am a huge Vinny Paz fan. When I started as the show's co-host in January, my goal was to get him as a guest on the show. I met and spoke with him at the fights a few weeks ago and he was generous enough to call me to schedule himself for the show. We will be live with The Pazman on Thursday, August 14 at 8;00 pm EST.
You can listen to us live at www.unlimitedfightnews.com/wordpress - Go on the right-hand side of the page and there is info for the show. You can join our chat room and feed us questions to ask Vinny. Or if you are really ambitious, there is info on how to call into the show.
We are expecting a GREAT show. Vinny Paz is a very charismatic guy and an excellent interview. He pulls no punches and tells it just like it is. We are going to discuss a wide range of topics including: his boxing career, the return from a broken neck, his big fights with Greg Haugen, Roberto Duran, Roy Jones Jr, Dana Rosenblatt, etc. And we will discuss other topics like his pending book deal, his DVD highlight video (available at www.vinnypaz.com), and his upcoming movie roles.
The date is Thursday, August 14 @ 8:00 pm EST. Mark it down on your calendar!!!! It is a show you won't want to miss. So listen to "Rabble Rousin" Rich Bergeron and "The Tornado" Tony Penecale as we talk with a true boxing legend and former champion Vinny Paz!!!!
Tony
