Now that he's finally in the body he always felt he belonged in, Chaz Bono said he's enjoying something that took decades to accomplish.

"It's a long process going back almost a decade," Bono, formerly known as Chastity, told, Entertainment Tonight in an interview. "I got clean and sober in 2004 and I couldn't have done this before that."

Born the daughter of Cher and Sonny Bono, Chaz, 40, has been undergoing a female-to-male sex change since March, a process that has already had significant physical changes on his body.

"It lowered my voice," he said. "Fat redistributes, muscle growth, hair growth, sex drive increases."

One thing that didn't need changing: His mental and emotional concept of himself as fundamentally male.

"I always felt like the male from the time I was a child," he said. "There wasn't much feminine about me."

"I believe that gender is something between your ears, not between your legs. That is something I discovered in the early '90s. It was just a long process of being comfortable enough to do something about it."

It was turning the milestone age of 40 that spurred him to action.

"I was turning 40 and I thought it's now or never. I want to still feel vibrant and be able to enjoy my life in a male body and not wait until I am an old man."

ET has confirmed Sonny Bono and Cher's daughter, Chastity Bono, is in the process of transitioning from a female to a male.

Chastity is in the early stages of the gender reassignment and started the process earlier this year following his 40th birthday.

Bono's publicist told ET, "Yes, it's true -- Chaz, after many years of consideration, has made the courageous decision to honor his true identity."

"He is proud of his decision and grateful for the support and respect that has already been shown by his loved ones. It is Chaz's hope that his choice to transition will open the hearts and minds of the public regarding this issue, just as his 'coming out' did nearly 20 years ago," the rep went on to say.

The rep also asked for the media to respect Chaz's privacy, and noted that he will not be doing interviews at this time.

Cher has sued Universal Music Group, claiming that the label's creative accounting has shortchanged her and the heirs of her late ex-husband, Sonny Bono, to the tune of $5 million.

The lawsuit, filed Tuesday in Los Angeles Superior Court, claims an audit of UMG's accounting to the singer-actress from 2000 to 2003 showed that UMG executives "engaged in wrongful tactics" designed to hide revenue from two hit compilation albums.

The five-count, 22-page complaint claims breach of two recording contracts Cher had with UMG predecessors, one with MCA division Kapp Records in 1972 and a 1987 deal with the David Geffen Company. Cher claims that those deals entitled her -- and, in the case of the 1972 deal, Bono -- to receive up to 50 percent of net royalties received by UMG.

The complaint alleges that UMG later made a deal with Warner Music U.K. to distribute a 1999 compilation called "Cher The Greatest Hits," then funneled the money through UMG's international arm to conceal the amount of royalties owed to Cher and the Bono heirs.
"Instead of reporting to and paying plaintiffs their share of the revenues generated by Warner U.K., UMG Recordings, in an egregious example of self-dealing, apparently inserted Universal International as a middleman in the transaction ... for the sole purpose of diverting money that rightfully belonged to plaintiffs to Universal International," the complaint says.

"The claims are meritless, and we are confident that we will prevail in court," said UMG spokesperson Peter Lofrumento.

IMPROPER ACCOUNTING ALLEGED

Cher also challenges accounting on a second compilation, 2002's "The Very Best of Cher." UMG allegedly allowed the album to be distributed by a division of Warner Music Group but accounted to Cher on a royalty basis as though UMG had sold the records itself, thus decreasing her share.
"UMG Recordings is underreporting and underpaying the royalties due to plaintiffs based on UMG Recordings' improperly accounting to plaintiffs based on a royalty rate instead of their respective shares of net receipts."
Cher also claims that UMG improperly deducted $328,662 in television advertising expenses and a 6.5 percent service charge in reporting revenue from the 1999 greatest hits collection, and that more money is owed from 2004 through 2008. But she has not yet audited the label's books for those years.

Cher and Bono came to prominence in 1965 when their single "I Got You, Babe" hit No. 1 on the Billboard chart, and she has since become the only female recording artist to have a Top 10 hit in each of the past five decades.
When Cher and Bono divorced in 1977, they agreed to split revenue from the songs recorded together. After Bono died in a ski accident in 1998, one-third of his interest passed to wife Mary Bono Mack, and one-sixth interests were split amongst his kids. Bono Mack, as well as Cher's daughter with Bono, Chastity Bono, are plaintiffs in the case, as are Bono children Christy Bono, Chianna Bono and son Chesare Bono.

"Universal is playing a game of catch-me-if-you-can with one of the most popular and iconic artists of all time," said Cher's lawyer, Mark Passin, of Robbins Kaplan. "Unfortunately, record companies have learned over the years that they can increase their bottom line by underreporting royalties to artists."

Music producer Snuff Garrett is also a plaintiff. He claims he is entitled to a 50 percent pro rata share of royalties from some of the recordings based on a producer's deal with MCA Records.

RadarOnline.com - Jumping on the recent Mickey bandwagon (Tom and Katie took Suri to Disney World on Valentine’s Day), Cher became the latest celebrity to make a pilgrimage to the mouse, causing a stir at Disneyland in Anaheim, CA on Tuesday afternoon.
“At first, a lot of people didn’t realize it was her until people started taking pictures,” an onlooker tells RadarOnline. “She was in a really good mood and waved hello at the other guests.”
As RadarOnline’s exclusive pictures show, despite an official park escort, the songstress was happy to spend as much solo time as possible with her young female guest who she took for a whirl on the park’s famous Dumbo ride.
“Cher didn’t make a fuss about anything, very nonchalant,” the onlooker noted. “They looked like they were having a great time, just a typical day at Disneyland...”
She certainly deserves a little R&R before taking the stage again this Saturday!

Cher looked HOT when she attended one of the Inauguration Balls on January 20, 2009. While she witnessed President Obama's Inauguration on television from her hotel room in Washington D.C., Cher celebrated the night away along with other big-name celebrities at the Feeding America Ball.

“I just want to see him be as smart as he is and I believe his intelligence is so great and he will do as much if not more [than people expect of him],” said the Believe singer.

“He is totally the right person for this position. He brings something more in his spirit and there is something about him that instills trust in me.”

The following are photos from the event...doesn't she look fabulous?!

The following is from the New York Post published December 3, 2008.

The legendary singer, who's ensconced at Caesars in Las Vegas for the next two years, told a Page Six operative at the new Luau restaurant: "I'm planning an album of all these great songs from the '60s that I've never covered before. It was such a magical time for music - groups like The Beatles, the Hollies, the Zombies, the Kinks, the Stones and singers like Dylan and Otis Redding . . . I want to pay tribute to a time when I used to listen to music on my little transistor radio or on my AM radio in my Ford Mustang."
