Team Dresch - does it seem like a dream where you thought it was real but then you realize it was just a dream but then OH SHIT it IS real!!!! That's how we feel too, being that we're all a solid decade (plus) older and (wiser) somehow we found ourselves coming back together to play, and write, music together again. What started as a "reunion" show at homoagogo in Olympia Washington summer 2004 sparked the beginning of a new beginning for our band.

So here we are, 2007 (huh?) and we're playing shows, writing songs, coming up with new t-shirt designs, full functional band. For reals. Here's our mission (statement) now that many years have passed and we finally have fully developed brain matter. (This matters) : To write amazing songs, to put on a show that feels like lightning, super cell clouds, and retains the connection with our fans/audience/friends that feels like the old days. We want to keep some of "the old days" but move into 2007, colony collapse disorder, wars, babies, you know it all just keeps on keeping on.

Team Dresch is writing new songs for a new record, to be releases ASAP in 2008, and we'll be touring sporadically to try and get those new songs TIGHT.
SO come see us!!! We are better at playing the old songs than we were back in the day, and we'll be playing new songs and feeling the love. OH SHIT and almost forgot, TEAM DRESCH are all straight now….KIDDING!!!! we R all goldstars still, unless someone is a liar.

Jody has been visiting pdx with her tiny man that I personally am in love with, i mean, i cry when i see him, that's how in love with the first man i've ever been in love with!

ANYWAY!

while jody has been here in the pdx (that's portland for the non jetsetting crowd) we have had a mini bootcamp of songwriting and figuring out software.  got some songs... got some ideas for songs and mostly also decided that we want to play pride festivals.  the hard part is. how come everyone has to have pride on the same day?? i know it has to do with stonewall and stuff..   but seriously folks, how can we be everywhere at ONCE???

ok that's not a very good update.  it's midnight! i should be asleep!!!

thanks for coming out to see us at the estrojam. we had the best time ever and all the bands were great.  the estrojam organizers are AMAZING and all the people we met at the show were awesome.  you couldn't ask for anything better.  there are some embarrassing photos floating around.. don't hold it against us.

we made it back safe and sound.

i must say we were so nervous about these shows.  maybe you could tell? i don't know. but you made it ok. we really can't believe how good it felt to be holding our guitars and to be in those rooms!  being on stage and looking out at you smiling and singing and feeling like you were having just as much fun as i was made this trip more than amazing.   I even shed a tear or two. but don't tell anyone.

The team is back in play So I've been sitting on this news for a couple months now. It was told to me in two parts by bandmember Dr. Dresch amidst nights of drinking and loud surroundings. This may explain why I was not sure whether or not this information could go public yet. As of this week, I know it certainly can, and I am now playing catch-up with at least 5 days of general knowledge. So forget the drumroll, but I'm still immensely excited that the most infamous dyke punk band of all time, Team Dresch, will be reuniting with its original cast. Close to home shows will be on May 26th and 27th in Seattle and Portland respectively. Now, the last time I saw the team was at Homo-a-Gogo in Olympia 2 summers ago. And though I've been a fan since their original shows in the mid-90s, this one-time-only (or so it seemed) reunion sent this crowd into a frenzy I have not witnessed since. An though I returned home smelling of all kinds of punk lady sweat I was exhilarated and enchanted. Can we be given this gift again? No one can be sure. But we may be given an even greater one. You see, there are a few shows scheduled, and over the course of several months. And when I did speak (shout, strain to listen, whatever) to Miss D, I got the impression that this may not just be another reunion show, but a complete revival of the band. Could this mean new songs, a new album, a complete rebirth of Portland's once-thriving dyke music scene? One can only hope. And, of course, I would also love to see what the ladies do a decade later in this new music landscape, new sounds, and a very different layout of PDX clubs and neighborhoods. Kaia's more recent band, The Butchies, was quite successful. And Donna's newest venture, Davies vs. Dresch, though short lived, also had much potential. But a regrouping such as this has the power to truly transform a scene. Team Dresch played a pivotal role in the young ladies of my generation. Personal Best seldom left my walkman in high school. I spent my very first hours on the internet in the Chainsaw chatroom in in their message boards. I think they have the power to do it again. And for just a little nostalgia's sake, and because everyone loves to see embarrassing moments in a blogger's past, I'll show you my Chainsaw chat profile from those times. (I really don't look much older now). This site is a very slightly updated version of the original Geocities hosted site, but all of the text and images were copied directly and have not been altered. I'm sure these profiles bring up memories for more folks than me. Donna's record label was a forum to speak the dyke punk language globally. Chainsaw records, and the message boards, still exist, if not with the same fervor. Nevertheless, Chainsaw continues to put out great music and gives helpful news updates as well.
