Nine muses are listed by Hesiod in writings that are believed to have originated somewhere in the eighth or ninth century B.C. These nine maidens can be seen as possessing the different attributes and devices that are delightfully peculiar to each one’s realm of expertise – Kleio with her scrolls, Euterpe with her flute, and Kalliope adorned with golden tiara, as her trusty tablet of writing rests firmly within her hands. Cascading throughout the nimbus of humanity’s collective consciousness, these maidens nine both embolden and embody the true creative aspect of our multi-dimensional reality. Thus, it only makes sense, both rationally and aesthetically, to give each of these maidens her own unique color in the creative spectrum in such a way that has already been expressed at least to some degree by sages in the past, and therefore, already present in the current psyche of humanity’s collective whim, as well as allowing each of these divine ladies a proper realm in the heavenly abode of our system of Sol.
Throughout history, numerous strategies for placing the various spectral hues in concert with the heavenly bodies have been attempted, but all seem to require unnatural additions or adjustments in order to have all of the colors line up in some type of recognizable order with the heavenly bodies. This could very well be due to the fact that our current civilization did not possess knowledge of the two additional planets (Uranus and Neptune) until very recently, when they were discovered only a few centuries ago. Up until then, the vast majority of the colour systems that were developed tried to place various spectral hues in alignment with the seven known heavenly bodies that were easily visible to the naked eye. The system presented here lines up the nine heavenly bodies perfectly with the nine basic colours. In addition, the nine muses are also placed in perfect alignment with this system in the precise order in which they were named by Hesiod in ancient antiquity.
First of all, the basic selection and ordering of the colours of this system of spectral analysis must be explained so that the merits of this particular system can be more thoroughly justified. First, all colors of light can be expressed with the three basic (or additive) colours – red, green, and blue. Next, all colours of pigment can be expressed with the three intermediate (or subtractive) colors – magenta, cyan, and yellow. White is the presence of all colours of light, as well as the absence of all colours of pigment. Black is the absence of all colours of light, as well as the presence of all colours of pigment. Grey is the intermediate of black and white. Thus, there are nine basic colours with which all other colours and hues can be formed or fashioned. They are, in descending order as they naturally appear in the spectrum: white, magenta, blue, cyan, green, yellow, red, black, and grey. This ordering assumes white at the top of the spectrum, since it is the culmination of all colors of light and black at the bottom of the spectrum since it is the absence of all light, and grey positioned after black and then cycling back into the next dimensional octave of white, so a rational recycling of infinite energy manifestation can be maintained. When paired in this order with the nine heavenly bodies, the two brightest colours perfectly line up with the two largest heavenly bodies, that is, white with Sol and yellow with Jupiter.
This system is the first of its kind that scientifically accounts for all of the most basic colours that comprise the totality of human existence and sets their correct number at nine, and then sets them in perfect alignment with the nine heavenly bodies in the solar system, while giving each of the nine nymphs named by Hesiod her own heavenly hue.
i. White – Sol – Kleio
White is completeness. It is the brightest and most powerful light in all of the universe, in the same way that Sol is the brightest and most powerful light in our solar system. White is the culmination of all the colours within the visible light spectrum. It is also considered the purest of all colours and represents the more sacred aspects that are prevalent within most cultural paradigms that are in existence on the surface of Terra. For a garment to possess the purest quality of whiteness, it must be clean and free from befouling stain or taint. To have these associated qualities of sacred cleanliness is to possess the characteristics of the Apollonian diurnal realms that stress the solar over the lunar. These qualities can also be expressed as order continually reconquering chaos every morning when Sol first appears on the horizon.
The muse known as Kleio is the maiden fair and pure who governs this most complete of the spectral hues. In fact, her name is formed from the letters K and L, which form an ancient biliteral root that means “to complete” or “to close.” This is rather obvious when one examines the etymology of these terms. Kleio is known as the muse of history and records, and is often depicted carrying either a scroll or some type of parchment. This realm of everflowing endeavor aligns completely with the etymological meaning of her name, since history is the past that is now complete.
This solar muse is thus responsible for the remembrance of things that have been completed so that the present and future may become more complete. With the careful cataloging and recounting of events and phenomena that have occurred within the past, it is far easier to guide the vessel of one’s destiny to more fertile shores. Thus, Kleio is the muse that provides one of the most fundamental services to the collective will and psyche of humanity, so that past errors will not be repeated as often, and so that more beneficial courses of wisdom can be most assuredly laid out and followed with a more solid stability.
She is the great lighthouse of purest white light that illuminates the otherwise dark shore of uncertain woes, because she records the invaluable experiences of the past, and these guideposts of reason allow for Kleio’s nimble grace of beautiful purity to flow unabated through the reason of the present and into the confident future of new endeavors.
Thus, the magic of Kleio’s white solar goodness is recorded every passing second in her sacred scrolls so that the diurnal Apollonian reason can continue to maintain proper balance and order throughout the vast realms of the cosmos. Whenever the nocturnal Dionysian currents of chaos grow too powerful and threaten to engulf both ship and sailor, then the white beacon of light from Kleio’s scrolls that are stored at the top of her lighthouse of past experience will guide the storm tossed seeker back to the shore of pure and stable reason.
ii. Magenta – Mercury – Euterpe
Magenta is the violet at the top of the spectrum. It is the expression of the highest known colour and the development of the highest known ideals and contemplations. Purple was considered the colour of royalty in antiquity and was highly valued by manufacturers of textiles as well as the trading merchants that reaped tremendous profits from selling them. Mercury is considered to be the macrocosmic center of higher intelligence and reason and is the source of hermetic wisdom both etymologically and literally. Violet Hermes is therefore the divine realm of the musical muse known as Euterpe.
The maiden Euterpe was given the realms of music and lyric poetry as her rightful realms of endeavor, and she was often depicted holding a flute. With her violet robes aflutter in the hermetic breeze of aesthetic and logical wonder, she anoints the knowledge seeker with the instinctual impulses of turning the knowledge found into living, breathing things of beauty for both man and beast to behold. Her highest prismatic position is universally prestigious due to the level of respect that is given to learning in most civilized societies. When this learning deals directly with the highest form of art known to our species – that is, music – then Euterpe’s throne atop the spectrum of prismatic privilege is no mystery at all.
With her flute of magenta secure within her most delicate grasp, she beckons the everflowing currents of the mercurial tide, as they gently flow up into the awaiting completeness of the solar tide. Euterpe’s divine dance of the sacred sonata song pleasantly nestles the currents from blueness of the goddess Venus and orders them correctly in harmony with the music of the spheres and allows them to be fluently transformed into the Apollonian grandness that is solar gold.
The name of Euterpe is taken from the ancient biliteral root formed by the letters T and R, which means “to order” and “instruction.” Thus, her ordering of the musical tones of the Cytherian currents into the higher aural realms of Sol’s golden aura, not only makes perfect etymological sense, but also allows for bountiful aesthetic contemplation as well. She is the violet musical tutor of the serpent copper that tames the savage beast of the snake and transforms it into the most noble and pure golden element known to humanity.
Thus, with her mercurial panacea, Euterpe’s hermetic glow dances vividly upon the rainbow prism of proclamation, while her musical tonality allows each subsequent energy current to polymorph pleasantly into the next octave of both the real and imaginative planes of both imaginative and speculative fancy. As she delicately performs a tune of wonder on her mercurial flute of royal magenta for the noble court that is comprised of the heavenly bodies of the solar system, she is both the inspiration of the most heavenly music as well as the harbinger of divine foresight.
iii. Blue – Venus – Thaleia
The azure blue of the Venerian currents. The mighty cupric indigo of Astarte. The morning star-fire of the blue sitar stream. Such is Venus. Such is blueness. These are the rightful and noble realms of the muse known as Thaleia, the third maiden muse named by Hesiod. The frequencies contained within this macroscopic energy circle of azure are some of the most immediate and vital life currents utilized by the solar system, as it continues on its celestial flight through the vast cosmic wilderness of the Milky Way.
Thaleia is the nubile muse who subtly guides and nurtures these energy flows as they are directed upward into the violet mercury realms that are governed by her sister Euterpe, the mystical flautist of the ordered musical tones. While Euterpe is the muse in charge of the higher ordering of the celestial energies, Thaleia is responsible for channeling these currents upward from the lower spectral realms as they are given a more pure essence by passing through the energy filters of Mars and Terra.
The blue Cytherian energy flow is merrily presided over by this lady diva, who is often depicted with a comedic mask that serves as a visual illustration representative of her mastery of comedy. Thaleia is truly the merry maiden of mirth. Just as the laugh aids to lighten the heart, a humorous inclination of the soul allows for a lightening of the lower and more dense frequencies, so that they may more easily flow in an upward motion. Laughing delicately in her rustic garb of the serpent shepherdess, Thaleia is the muse of the youthful indigo stream that flows delicately upwards throughout its cosmic vagus tendrils. This blue brook is Thaleia’s heat stream that subtly warms the metabolic passions of the solar system.
Her name is formed from the letters Theta and Lambda (Teyth and Lamed in Hebrew) that form an ancient biliteral root that means “to warm,” “youthful,” and “fresh.” Thus, her name is in perfect etymological harmony with the biological role of her natural realm that deals with metabolic functions. This comedic shepherdess with her wreath of ivory dances over the sylvan plains through the azure forest, while her mirthful laugh warms the fountain of venerian youthfulness.
Thalia is also depicted with a wreath of ivory as well as the staff of the shepherdess. In this bucolic role, she is often thought of as the muse of idyllic poetry, which is poetry that portrays the rustic life and emphasizes the natural harmonic balance that exists between land, animal, and humanity. When the cupric currents that she resides over are in correct alignment and pulling energy in an upwards fashion, then her laughter is pleasantly indicative of the natural metabolic balance of the heavens. Thus, Thaleia is the cosmic shepherdess of blue mirth indigo that warms the heavenly flow and balances it into the more subtle comedic lightheartedness that allows it to float delicately upward into the realms of mercury.
iv. Cyan – Terra -Melpomene
The tragedy of Terra’s turquoise tears. Such is the realm of Melpomene. Her cyan energy lies at the intersection of water and air. Removing her mask of tragic drama, she waves her symbolic blade of the elemental air, slicing through the silver breeze.
Melpomene is the muse-spirit that provides the necessary balance to the merry comedy of her sister, Thalia. Her area of expertise is that of the tragedy, which allows for the two heavenly sisters, Venus and Terra, to exist in a more balanced alignment with each other. Terra and Venus share a common trait that makes the pair unique amongst the muses, and that is that both members of this dramatic duo are the only two muses who wear masks. The two feminine planets also share an orbital pattern, that is, the length between the inferior conjunctions – or successive approaches – of Venus and Terra is equal to five Venusian days. This interlocking of aquamarine with blue makes it necessary for the two muses governing these two realms to possess specialties that are polar opposites of each other. This would seem rather prudent since the rustic comedic sensibilities of Thalia would balance nicely with the tragic melodies of Melpomene.
This maiden muse known as Melpomene is often depicted as either carrying or wearing a dramatic mask of tragedy as well as holding a blade. Her name – commonly given the meaning of “to sing” – can be etymologically traced back to two biliteral roots. The first is formed from the letters M and L and has the ancient meaning of “to care.” The second is formed from the letters P and M and in its most primitive essence has the meaning of “mouth.” Placing these two meanings together, it is possible to derive a more precise meaning of this maiden muse’s name, which would be something along the lines of “verbal expression of care,” or even “singer of the passionate.” In this sense, Melpomene is the muse of passionate desire as well as the tragic and can be fathomed as the singer of the things weighing on a heavy heart.
As she hides her tears behind her sorrow-filled cyan mask of tragic melody, Melpomene presides over the realm of Terra, as her silvery Lunar energies take the currents that have been hardened by the iron of Mars and then coat them her most electrically conductive essence of silver, so they can be further electrified by the copper of Venus and intelligently ordered by Euterpe’s mercurial flute before ascending into Kleio’s aura of aurum. Since the silver cyan of Melpomene’s lunar essence is the most electrically conductive substance known, and her sister Thaleia’s blue cupric essence is the second most electrically conductive substance, the intimate relationship between these two maidens is made even more abundantly apparent.
v. Green – Mars – Terpsichore
The emerald city where the vital force of Terpsichore’s celestial lyre rings throughout the heavens. The greenflow nectar palace where the maiden muse of the heavenly dance delicately plucks the star-strings of her heavenly harp so the choreographed choir of Mars can strengthen the Jovian currents with their ironic essence of iron. Such are the realms of Terpsichore. Such is the watery kingdom of the lady of the lake-dance.
Her elegant jade-like music provides the inspirational notions that permeate the Jovian currents so the iron forces of Mars can strengthen and be prepared for their silver saturation. Terpsichore’s enchanted realm is the elemental center of water. This energy vortex is the dance of the magical liquid sonata. Every note that is plucked by Terpsichore on her celestial harp is another choreographed step performed by the choral ballet of the emerald choir.
Terpsichore’s name is formed from the ancient Greek words Terpso (delight) and Choros (dance and/or song.) The etymology from the latter term can be seen in the words chorus and choreograph. This muse is usually depicted as being seated while playing a harp or lyre. Thus, this muse teases the tingling trickledown of the green Apollonian iron in such a way that the overall kundalini flow is beckoned to be emboldened by being given the flexibility and agility of water.
vi. Yellow – Jupiter – Erato
Yellow is often referred to as a color linked to cowardice in many western cultures and with royalty in many of the Chinese cultures of antiquity. This association with fear can be seen in the western phrases such as “yellow-bellied.” The Chinese tradition of the Yellow Emperor as the ancestor of all Han Chinese as well as the cultural association of that is generally assigned to yellow is demonstrative of the role of royalty that this color plays in certain portions of the Eastern paradigm. It is the second brightest color of light known to mankind. Fear is also one of the strongest emotional currents and is usually linked directly to many of the other stronger emotions such as anger and rage. This direct relationship is known in scientific circles as the fight or flight response.
Erato is the muse of erotic poetry, who is generally depicted with a lyre or harp like her sister muse Terpsichore, who presides over the neighboring spectrum of green. She is often depicted in the company of Eros. The etymology of her name is apparent in the words erotic and eroticism. She is also considered to be the muse of love and marriage as well. When considering the amorous nature of the Lord Jupiter, it seems rather logical and befitting that the muse that presides over his kingdom of passionate yellow also be attuned to the nymph-fires of the erotic arts.
The lyre wielding muse-nymphs of Erato and Terpsichore must both enliven and enlighten these yellow currents, so they can first be lifted and taught to sing and dance the strengthening dance of the liquid-green iron bloodflow, and then be subsequently baptized into the Melpomene’s tragic silver electricity of turquoise, before being magnetized by Thaleia’s comedy of blue copper and then ordered by the mercurial musical scales of Euterpe’s violet flute. When this energy force is correctly tamed and educated in the more subtle and eloquent frequencies of the cosmic realms, it ceases to be an uncontrollable beast rightfully feared by many and becomes one of the most rejuvenating life currents present in both the microscopic and macroscopic realms of humanity’s collective perception.
vii. Red – Saturn – Polyhymnia
Red is the color of blood. It is the color of passion and rage. It is also the color of marriage and good fortune in many eastern cultures. Red’s good fortune and yellow’s royal grandeur, as well as red rage and yellow fear are linked together both psychologically and scientifically in both a mental and spectral sense, since yellow and red are neighbors in the colour spectrum. This relationship is also found in the astronomical sense with the five to two orbital resonance of Jupiter with Saturn. This ratio is known to produce the musical interval known as the major tenth, thus, there is a true and scientific musical relationship between these two largest heavenly bodies that provides pleasant aural nectar to the grand symphony that is the music of the spheres.
Polyhymnia is the muse that governs the realms of the crimson emperor. She is generally depicted as being veiled and is known as the muse of hymns and silent meditation. One of the obvious reasons for her specialty in the sacred and the pensive is due to the irrational rage of red rashness for which Saturn is infamous. These most dangerous of spectral currents require the most drastic of methods in order to keep them amused and delighted, and thus, in a state of being more easily controlled and managed.
Polyhymnia does not use speech or verbal expression when she employs her muse-arts within these spectral currents that are her primary sphere of influence, but instead uses silence and inward reflection as her main tools of energy anger management. These currents are vitally important to biological and cosmic existence because they directly inject energy into the core of Lord Jupiter in much the same way that burning fuel powers a generator.
When Polyhymnia does express herself with her most divine song, it is in the form of sacred hymns that promote the holiness and sanctity of proper order and divine balance within the cosmic realms of existence. The etymology of Polyhymnia’s name can be traced to the two Greek words poly and hymnos. Poly means “many,” and hymnos is formed from a triliteral stem that consists of the letters Upsilon, Mu, and Nu. This triliteral stem is used to form words that mean both “hymn” and “you.” Therefore, one could interpret her name as being “many hymns,” which is the common meaning associated with her name, or as “many expressions of the individual.” This secondary interpretation would fall into correct harmonic alignment of Polyhymnia’s role as the meditative muse that seeks inward reflection and contemplation.
It is this inward seeking of the many aspects of the individual self that allows for Polyhymnia to correctly channel the raw red energy of Saturn into the sacred yellow of Lord Jove. The sacred choral offerings of this pensive muse help to maintain the holy balance necessary for the proper functioning of the soul's fire.
viii. Black – Uranus – Urania
Black is the color associated with darkness and the night. Urania is commonly known as the muse of the heavenly and depicted as holding a sphere in one hand and a pointer in the other, representative of her ability to give instruction regarding the heavenly bodies and their proper positions in the cosmos. This instruction would most typically occur during the nocturnal hours when the greatest number of heavenly bodies are viewable to the aided and unaided human eye. The blackness of the night is also the realm of the chaotic Dionysian energies.
Etymologically, there are many different branches that occur from the biliteral root that is obviously common to both the name of the muse and the planetary realm over which this heavenly lady presides. This biliteral root is formed from the ancient equivalents of U and R. In its most basic sense, this root has the meaning of “to be crafty.” Thus, by association it was given the meaning of great intellectual ability and therefore meant “to be high.” From this meaning, the definition of “heavenly” was applied to the root. However, the basic meaning of being crafty was also associated with the ability to reveal or uncover things that were normally hidden or covered, thus, the meanings of “uncover” and “naked” were also applied to words formed with this biliteral root. Thus, the dual meanings of Uranus and Urania can be seen in such a way that they are in etymological alignment underneath the black nocturnal realms of the heavenly abode that occur underneath their magnetic ebony sway.
Urania is the muse of these realms of heavenly darkness, and uses the wonder and fascination of the human psyche that is drawn to the sparkles of the blackened night sky as an instructional tool for astronomical guidance.
ix. Grey – Neptune – Kalliope
Grey is the place where black flows back into the white. Grey is where white creeps back into the shadow. It is the conjunction of the two most extreme colours that bypasses the spectrum and allows for an alternate flow of prismatic dimensional energy.
The etymology of Kalliope’s name is formed from the same biliteral root as Kleio’s. Thus, Kalliope is the next octave of completion. She is usually depicted as holding a pen and a scroll or tablet, so she can record the essence of the newly formulated inspiration that has been created in the heavenly genetic code. Her realm of grey is the portal to the next dimensional paradigm that flows either in parallel or in opposition to the dimension that gave it birth.
The energies of Neptune can either flow from their grey home into the black night of Uranus, where they may or may not create a new formulation, or they can be channeled into the most brilliant white light of Sol, where they most certainly will be used to further fathom the great foretold visions of future notions and endeavors. So Kalliope must be able to function as both scribe and witness to the new creations that she has created, whether they go into the black night of heavenly Urania or into the white light of golden solar brilliance. Either way, Kalliope’s gentle art of muse-creation must continually produce new wonders to behold.
The energies of Kalliope’s new genetic creations thereby resonate throughout the solar system as they provide a new level of dimensional paradigms to all of the spectral realms of her sister muses. Unlike the spectral energies presided over by the other muses, Kalliope’s currents can be spread to any of her fellow sisters colored kingdoms with equal ease and eloquence. By anointing the other spectral realms with her new genetic paradigms, Kalliope magically transforms the creative hues of her maiden sisters by giving them her enchanted scrolls that contain new cosmic chromosomal content.
In this special way, Kalliope is the eldest of all of the muses. In this special way, Kalliope is the most important of all the muses. In this special way, Kalliope’s brand new fanciful whims become the very essence of all the other maiden muses as their currents are both reconstructed and reinvigorated simultaneously. In this special way, a new cosmic generation is born.
