These appearences were from a voting competition where fans could Vote for £0.50 per vote.
it was an interesting experience going onto a voting competition. One of the guys in the band at the time 'Jamie' the percussionist found the site to add your music and get involved. we managed to get on it the first week it was running so we had pleanty of time to get as many votes as we could.
We all started by e-mailling all our friends family and fans to get everyone voting. also at work we were getting our collegues involved, basically anyone we could. As it was only 50p per vote we thought well why can bands vote for themselfes if there are no rules seems like a bit of a money spinner. i remember chatting to my dad about it. he basically just laughed saying 'there was no way he was going to have anything to do with anything like that, they probably charge money to your phone every week.'
On every thursday the votes for the week would come in. if you have the most votes in one week then the end of the month you had the oppertunity to go on ITV local and play. We were well chuffed to find out we had won a week that month. i think most of the votes that month were from friends family and fans but we added our own little bit of about £5 each on votes.
it was definalty worth £5 to get a live recording. somthing we didnt have at this stage of time.
Over the next few months it was a case of checking the website to see if we'd got another week. i think in total we won 4 of the 25 weeks. one of the weeks we heard nothing back from the company running the competition and we never got a thing from winning that week.
Each week you win you get a track recorded, a prize and radio plays on several radio station. at least that was the offer.
i think we were let down on a few occations for different things. Also the prizes that they offered were 'An Amazing Electric Guitar' which turned out to be a cheap attempt of a guitar that didnt even play right by a company called 'Cheetar' and some bongos that the picture showed and ...well bongo's. it was like buying your first macdonalds burger and realizing it looked nothing like the picture. they we're actually tiny. Not small. tiny. they didnt even make a sound. it was quite funny though and we did have a good ol' giggle about it all.
Over the course of the competition every thursday was such a stress trying to get as many votes together. in the end after we realised that the prizes wernt all they we're cracked up to be we decided to investigate the top prize and see if it was worth persuing. Top prize was a release on crash records, so we checked out crash records. the artists they were promoting id not heard of any. never heard of there label and the whole thing looked rather dire.
Conclution
all in all it was worth a giggle and we got some videos, but never doing it again!! Mind you it was nice of there management team to vote us best band...
..oh yea, they promised us gigs in london to but never heard anything :D crack up!!!
