Thank you for your interest in playing here, here's the deal...

Don't be offended that we haven't asked you to play, just ask us! If we say no, it's usually because the show is full. Or your band sucks. It's also very unlikely that you will get your first show here on the biggest show of the month. Don't be afraid of playing shows with lesser known bands.

The best way to get on a show is to find one listed that you think you might fit in with, then send us a myspace message about it. If you don't have a myspace you can email warren_bedell@hotmail.com. Sending a message asking if you can play a show sometime is unwise. We get that message countless times and will forget about you. Calling one of us or asking at a show is unwise. We are idiots who forget things alot. If you check the show listings we put our names in the description box. That's who is booking that show. We try not to step on each others shows to avoid overbooking.

We don't do all local shows generally. Occasionally we will do a CD release or tour kickoff or benefit, but usually we have plenty of shows to do for the touring bands.

Please don't bother asking if you can host your wild birthday party or rave here. I've never asked if I could throw a party at someone else's house, and I never will.

Please keep your sets under 30 minutes or ask if it's OK to play longer sets. We want the touring band to get the best slot before people go home so they can hopefully sell some merch.

We don't pay local bands. Sorry. We have agreed that touring bands need it more. Remember, none of the money goes to us. We pay the rent and the bills ourselves, we're doing this so that we can see decent bands at a cool place. We want to pay them for their trouble, Denver is crazy far from every other city worth playing, so we REALLY have to make it worth playing if we want anyone to come here.

Helping us promote and bringing people is awesome. It helps us pay the touring bands. You can make a flier too! Bringing an entourage that feel they don't have to pay is not awesome. Tell your buddies to pony up for the touring bands.

Overall, just remember that this is our house. The more considerate you are the better things will be for everyone and the better your chances of playing again.

Thanks for your interest in playing here, here's the deal.

The best way to get a show is to send a myspace message here. If you don't have a myspace you can email warren_bedell@hotmail.com. It's best if you only message one of those. Multiple people book here and it gets confusing when more than one of us thinks they are doing the show. Please don't get upset if you don't get a show or don't hear back, we get a ridiculous amount of requests. We also don't get paid in any way so we can't do shows every night. We prefer one a week. It may be wise to take a look at our upcoming shows to see if you fit in here. We often get requests from bands who would do much better elsewhere.

Please include a quick description of what you sound like, and we encourage that you send posters and the like to help us promote.

No guarantees. Sorry. We pay out all the money we bring in at the door. Sometimes we get shows with bigger turnouts so we keep some money to pay bands with poor turnouts, but we pay very well for a DIY space, and often better than bars would.

We have couches you can sleep on. You're welcome to use our kitchen or grill to cook food.

Our PA rules balls now actually. We are still in the process of upgrading, but we have subs, 2 monitors, and plenty of power. we have a snake with 10 inputs. our mic collection is limited but functional. If you generally run your own mixer though, we just ask that you avoid clipping your mixer. We've put alot of time and money into the PA and would appreciate your cooperation. Remember, low in = high out. We will offer our assistance if you need any help.

Most of all remember that we live here and we don't get paid to do this. So be cool. Here are some other places that can book your shows if we can't...

Brooks Center Arts

The Old Curtis Street Tavern

The Hi-Dive

Three Kings Tavern

The Meadowlark

The Larimer Lounge

Thank you for taking an interest in our space. Rhinoceropolis was founded in 2005 by Warren, Buddy, Jeremiah, and Harry. Now Travis and Sean live here instead of the latter two. We began this space because we saw a void forming in the DIY scene as certain folks were moving out/ on and thought it might be fun. Since then we have hosted hundreds of shows for bands from all over the world, and many art shows for local up-and-coming artists. It's been really fun. Many people don't know what to think . Here's some tips to make your visit more enjoyable:

The money: Yes, we do ask for a $5 donation at all of our shows. We think this to be more than reasonable, and would like to remind everyone that all of this money goes to touring bands. We spread the bigger shows out so poorly attended bands can still get back on the road. Occasionally we spend house money for things like toilet paper and cleaning supplies, PA stuff, etc., but We aren't living cheaper here because of shows, so pony up and help the touring bands out, eh?

Smoking: Please don't do it in the front room, and please avoid hanging out by the street. You can go into the living space or out on the dock. Many people don't smoke and still want to watch the bands. Please respect them.

Cleanliness: Someone does have to pick up after these parties. It's us. Please just keep in mind that we live here, and we have a landlord to answer to. This includes the alley, back dock, and everywhere else. We don't like raking up cigarette butts in the alley and dumping out gallons of unfinished beers. It's gross.

Tagging: Quit it. It took us a long time to convince our landlord that we weren't responsible for all the tagging that happens on this block. This includes inside and throughout our neighborhood. If you want to express yourself, talk to us about an art show or go tag somewhere else. We are ultimately held responsible.

Parking/ bikes: Most areas around here are fine while the shows are going on. ECXEPT the area in front of the chain link fence a few houses south of us. Don't lock your bike to that fence or park there. That lady gets pissed and threatens to call the cops all the time. It sucks.

Ultimately, we are here to have a good time, and being cool helps that to happen. A lot of people have put a lot of work into this space and the only return we've ever received is a great place to see shows and hang out with our friends. W look forward to seeing you so that we can continue doings this for more years to come.

Love,
Rhinoceropolis
