Current mood:  animated
A big hello to all you folks who have come our way due to a little video you have just seen called "Subprime"

Please take a moment and check out some of our music. You can of course listen to the tunes in the player, purchase our EP here or click on the album covers under "General Info" to take you to FREE high quality downloads of our more recent singles (This Perfect Day, Drinking Progress, and Said and Done")

You could also just watch Subprime again on our page...we wouldn't blame you.

Beeple has been lending his style to Nobot for some time, creating amazing concert posters and live visuals for select shows. Check out our photos to see some of his work.  We've finally been able to return the favor by composing music and sound design for his new film "Subprime"

Well anyway, enjoy the tunes, enjoy Subprime, and tell your friends. In a perfect world we'd be playing your hometown this weekend.

Current mood:  triumphant
Hey guys,

Just some quick updates from the NOBOT camp for the month of February in no particular order:

1.)  NOBOT at Sparksfest!

Sparksfest features musicians, speakers, filmmakers, dancers, and
artists from all over the world who utilize new technologies. Happening
over the course of a week in dozens of different venues, the festival
is in its seventh year. In other words, its a week long geek festival
that will make your jaw drop and leave shat in your panties. Check out
the Sparks website for dates, times, and locations for all the goings
on. Also, did you hear that Pole is coming this year?! What the shit!

We have been selected to perform during the "Nightlife" series which
occurs every night of the festival at the Bedlam Theater. The nightlife
houses the artists and acts that are better suited for a more night
club environment. We'll be joined by Twin Cites locals Caly McMorrow
and the Rossum Electric Co. along with Emily Hay and her trio from Los
Angeles.  We're pulling all the stops for this show with our good
friend Beeple who will be providing live visuals for our set along with
some new tricks that will leave you holding your crotch for more.

2.  NOBOT spun in Second Life

We were equally amazed and honored to see that NOBOT's music was being
spun by a DJ who only exists in Second Life. His name is Niko Lyle and
you can check out his blog, A Shout and a Whisper here.  It features
his set lists and upcoming performances in the virtual world. Niko
turned to Second Life when his current surroundings (a small town in
Texas) hindered his passion for delivering great music to a bigger audience. And he is doing just that. Search google for "Niko Lyle" and
you'll find several blog reviews of his performances and selection of
music. Niko was kind enough to speak with me about being a virtual DJ
and we discussed the idea of transporting NOBOT into Second Life...a
move that surley happen in due time. Thanks Niko!

3.  New Single: Said and Done

If you haven't already, you can download our newest track: "Said and
Done" for free via our myspace page. Special thanks to artist JR Sutton who hand crafted some amazing artwork for the new track.  So download and enjoy!

Hello my chip-chips.

September was a whirlwind for us. We played some fantastic shows with some amazing people: (We Are Wolves, Soviet Panda, Estate, John the Savage, The Anonymous, Military Special, Plastic Chord, The Sextons, Tentacle Boy, Lucy Velvet and Velvet Lapels, and DJ Bach.)  We also just released our brand new single "Drinking Progress".  The track is still rocking our nuts off and hopefully they'll rock your...nuts off, as well, also.  The response for the track thus has been overwhelming. Minneapolis powerhouse blog MFR said, "if  "Drinking Progress" doesn't make you get up and dance, then you must be John McCain"  True words of wisdom and insight.

You can download and stream the new song in a variety of different ways. There are also some nice articles and reviews on the song available as well.  Visit the links below and choose your own adventure.  For more information, pictures, and artwork, visit the Drinking Progress "mini-page" which you can access here.

September was great, but we've already got alot in store for October.  We just played at the Entry with Throw me the Statue (great guys) and Self Help (Schone me!). Later this month we'll be collaborating with Culture Bully and Donors Choose.org on top secret project.  We also have some great shows lined up with Tartufi (San Fran) and Darling Physique as part of Nomad's monthly electro avant art night "No Surprise" and Burbis, everyone's favorite atom smashers from NY. The month will build to a climax with the release of our next single. So come visit us often!  Lots to be seen and heard.

Thanks for everyone's continued support. I means alot to us.  BIG thanks to Beeple for his amazing graphics work. And thank you to MN Strobist's Ben Zvan and Jason and Kurt Schumacher for their brilliant eyes and lenses.

Best,

Kyle and Adam

Hello friends of NOBOT.

Just by looking at the page you've probably already figured out that things are changing.  Today I have to sadly announce that our guitarist Matt will be honorably discharging himself from the group.  He was a founding member along with Adam and I and was with us every step of the way since the beginning.  We wish him the best of luck in his future music endeavors and he will be missed dearly.

With that being said, NOBOT is now currently upgrading itself to include myself and Adam.  We've been working hard in the studio to revamp our live show to accommodate Matt's departure.  Its been very challenging, but rewarding work and we'd like to debut it for you this Thursday (July 17th) at the Nomad along with Koo Koo Kangaroo and Capitol Jay. I must say its sounding friggin' awesome, so please come out and show your support this Thursday!

Even though NOBOT is now a duo, we're keeping a gaping hole open in our minds to any ideas, projects, collaborations, etc.  There is alot in store as we're currently in the studio recording and mixing several new tunes.  We'll make sure to let you know when they're finished.

I'd also like to take this opportunity to thank our good friend and artist Mark Roethke for creating such a brilliant design and poster for us.  Mark doesn't know it yet, but he's going to be an official member of the group specifically in charge of our visual style.  We can't wait to see more designs.  If you want to get in touch with Mark about getting a quote for a design, please feel free to email him here: mark@roethke.net

That is all for now.  Thanks to everyone for their continued support.   We've got more dates coming up this summer so please check back often!

Thanks,

Kyle.

The Nobot & Estate Magical Remix Project

Check out our VIRB page by clicking above.  Here is what it’s all about:

When writing music, the creative process is often a cross-pollination of sound and method.  Original music is frequently just a product of people taking one idea and sampling, mashing, and blending with other ideas. In this spirit of musical hybridity, a collaboration has recently emerged between two local like-minded bands, Nobot and Estate.  It is a boundary-crossing musical experience to be unveiled in just a few weeks that is sure to astound and excite fans of each group.

The ’Nobot & Estate Magical Remix Project,’ began in February of this year and will culminate at a concert at the Nomad World Pub on Thursday, April 26th.  The concert is sponsored by Tarnius Music, a Chicago-based independent music distributor that both bands have recently signed with (tarniusmusic.com).  Simply put, the goal was for each band to prepare a cover of one of the other band’s songs.  But the process goes much deeper than that, and the end result is far from a traditional cover.

Estate and Nobot both fully embrace the creative potential of current music technology. Sampled beats, virtual synthesizers, and in some cases, live visuals and audio manipulation are all seamlessly blended with live instruments and vocals.  Although the two bands are both technically ’live’ bands, they each have a foot planted firmly in electronic production and the DJ/remix culture.  Because of this, the ’Nobot & Estate Magical Remix Project’ has resulted in songs that could be described both as covers and remixes.  They are covers in the sense that the bands will be playing instruments and singing, but like a remix, sampled audio from the original songs have been integrated into the productions.

The ’Nobot & Estate Magical Remix Project’ began as a fun idea between two bands with similar approaches to music.  [But?] emerging from their shared musical tastes and nontraditional ways of performing, it has since grown into something larger.  In drawing attention to this project, Estate and Nobot hope that other artists will pick up on the idea and expand on it in new and creative ways.
