On 18th January 2008 i put another of my little gigs on in Bury st edmunds and was looking forward to this one as it was the 3rd time i would be seeing Thee Vicars play and this time they were playing at my gig. I had seen them previously at the old maltings when they played with Popular Workshop for Planet Beet and decided to ask them to play for me. The energy and songs the band gave out were top notch and i was amazed that such a good band of 16 + 17 year olds were from Bury so i looked forward to the january gig very much. I was stood with my friend Pato from the band Revenue, they were due to go .. Thee Vicars and Pato said to me 'how are we supposed to follow them, this band is shit hot!' i agreed and for some reason (maybe drink and marching powder) i went on to the stage while they were still playing and asked Mike, Vicars' lead singer, if the band wanted a mangager...Mike took 5 seconds and said 'yeah, alright then.' I explained that i had no idea what i was doing but would do my best to get the band some gigs and got on the case straight away promoting them. After a meeting with the band and Reuben & Jaspers mum and dad i now had the green light to start us on our journey that has seen us play 60 odd gigs around the uk, holland, belgium and spain including winning the Indy award for best punk act accidentally (we did nothing to promote the fact we were in the competition but still won!) also King Khan asked Thee Vicars to open for King Khan & The Shrines on their uk tour in December. Our 1st venture was to high wycombe for the release party of the bands 1st 7" on dire records 'let us play' followed by several more gigs before i got our 1st european gig in rotterdam at primitive festival, Dandy Dave the organiser asked us over after i sent him a cd of the mp3s that i had. After this we had an amazing breakthrough as we were asked to support THE MUMMIES + King Khan & the bbq show at Funtastic Dracula Carnival in Valencia in October 08. I can still hardly believe it happened but it did! Since then we carried on gigging relentlessly around the country including gigs for Rhys Webb at the Cave Club, 3 gigs for Vice magazine and a gig for Artrocker. In October we were also offered the Top class services of Robert at Kissnrun.com as our european booking agent (he has booked tours for Black Lips, King Khan, Jay Reatard and loads more) so as we ended 2008 playing at The Pits in Belgium, we met Robert although he never said who he was whilst i was talking to him! The bands line up changed in september as Jasper left to go to university in Edinburgh, this was no surprise as it was common for us to be driving to a gig and Jasper would ask where we were playing or who we were playing with....he has so much natural talent on the drums but was completely oblivious as to what was going on but he is a lovely fella and i wish him all the best in saving the world or whatever he is studying for. More of a shock was Reuben deciding to leave for personal reasons, a 16 year old lad that is thee most amazing guitarist i've ever seen, he is amazingly talented and once he gets his head round things im sure he will be back in some mod band strumming away and making my hairs stand up again, ive put 1st dibs on managing his next band ha ha So now we have 4 lads all 100% commited to playing around the world in the shape of Mike, Marco, Will and new boy Chris i'm really looking forward to this year ahead. 2009 is looking pretty exciting at the moment with 20 gigs in europe planned for April and May and some new songs being recorded at the end of January, we have a PR company and im working on getting us a booking agent for the UK and USA, we also have a very supportive label with Paul,Pj and Diego at Dirty Water Records, its all set up to be a good un and maybe we will make some money this year ha ha !
