Continuing in the journal about Something we have another song Welcome 2 Tomorrow enjoy the play by play....

2. Welcome 2 Tomorrow
I started writing this song with the beat on repeat to myself the night my California Drivers License was taken from me in a hotel room in San Diego round 4 am. (That is an epic trilogy of a story for another blog) Welcome 2 Tomorrow is my life mantra in song form. I decided if I were 2 ever label myself with a label or name of my music imprint I want to use as the vehicle to put out my music I would call it Tomorrow’s Music Group and this right here is the anthem! A song that could actually give me a sense of hope through everything I was going through if I just said it and believed it. This baby was born in the last session with R.C. before I completed “Something.” He gave me beats for the very next album titled “Anything.” I was going for a bigger sound and he delivered without postage! But the more I played this beat originally called “She’s A Winner” I knew I couldn’t just leave this song for another project. The keys and synth’s screamed Now! By this time in the recoding process my engineer Mat was like "NO MORE NEW SONGS!!!" I had 2 beg for this one to be recorded because every session I came in I was like on I got the VERY last song that album needs and May was a week away.

I approached each verse as this new time zone or period in my life’s journey like the first verse starts with the words “Yesterday, I did it for the love like tennis” and I talk about my humble beginnings and past hiding from my parents the fact that I rapped because growing up rap wasn’t even allowed in my house I had 2 sneak tapes that I would dub off the radio when they weren’t home. When I did play music loudly it was oldies or alternative or 80’s rock and gospel so that’s what I more so grew up on. I was a late bloomer into Hip Hop but I always knew I loved it. The second verse is more about the present hope I am feeling so I start it out with “Today, I let the sunshine kiss my face…” and that verse was just where I was at that very day and moment. Lastly I didn’t just want to rap just another verse I wanted to speak as tomorrow it self talking to myself. I was inspired to do an “Umi Says” style 16 bar chant of hope and dedication filled with metaphors and literals. I wanted to have it be something stadiums full of people look to the sky and say it and feel it and remember. If the album was a new home this was the albums welcome mat and we do it Japanese style over here holmes take them kicks off, aaaand you are Welcome!

....................

WAAAAAAAAAAY back in May of 2008 I released an album all by my only I called it "Something" and I am preparing the remixed re released version of it in Febuary of 09 (lord willin). Until then I have decided to write a journal on each song and the thought process put into it all and release each song via my blog. So enter.... Something.....

1. A Song Called Something

I believe you’re first words on you’re first album are thee
most important of you're career.

Its like you’re first step or first breath except everyone
hears it and says in their minds do I really wanna sit through the rest of
this??? I hoped the answer for me would be yes. There are 3 different versions
of the first verse which was the last verse recorded 4 the album before Mat and
I began mixing it. At first the beginning was

“Fuck what you heard homie I’m
from Cali!

 shall we, start the
album off with a big bang theory

huh? Like hear me

nah they don’t hear me and I’m Def!”

and so on… I felt it was a great statement (BAM I put on 4 my city! ha)  it is still til
this day my favorite of all of the intro verses but due to flow and and just consistency it
started the album off roughly (Listen to the song to hear the actual intro
verse used btw). I was HYPED about starting off the record with a curse word
hahaha. I mean its like my babies first word was “fuck” and that’s the lord of
the curse words in my opinion it don’t get anymore fucked up than that. I told
R.C. the beat felt like a breath of fresh air and sounded like a new beginning
so why not begin with such energy? I also had a friend Keith (I thank you 4 you were an
amazing help sir) who was studying  music
at USC  he ended up orchestrating the strings in
the song at the end which takes the song to a new more theatrical level. Then after about a week of sitting with the rough mix 2
kick it up another notch BAM! I brought in the likes of Javon Johnson, Nikki Blak,
Kyndal, Marc Payne, Mr. Poetic, Brandon, Aja Monet, H.O.P.E., Youssef, Will
Richardson, Julien, and this other girl (I HONESTLY don’t remember her name but
she was randomly in my session so she’s on there) all come in to the studio and
say a lil something something special over the strings stating sentences containing the word “Something. Some ask why call the album
Something? Its soooooo vague,  I say
because it aint perfect. But really ask yourself what is? Nothing!

Right, and my albums not called nothing…..

Its “Something.”

Sugar.Water.Purple.
Sugar.Water.Purple.
Sugar.Water. And of course Purple.
Realities starting 2 taste funny again
And I don't think I can afford a reality with all the vitamins and shit
This isn't one of those poems that tells you it isn't a poem
No parental advisories here

It just isnt

Its a recorded conversation with why
Its a misplaced memory in the mind of a man just trying 2 find his place in this world
But understands Maybe it isn't our place to know that yet
Its one who feels disconnected from it all but needs jumper cables 2 continue going
Wide asleep face 2 face with the Possessed by possessions

Their breath stinks of dollar signs
It makes you question your own shallow halitosis
And no one has gum when you need it
taking out loans to own our own opinions
And even my feelings seemed borrowed from hypothetical situations
I have played out in my head a trillion times before they happen

I need a life sponsorship
any takers??
Conversations with yourself go better when you don't reply
Especially if the worlds ease dropping
Shit could be so easy
We are forgetting we make the rules and set the prices for everything
Thee economy is only as fucked up as we are
Raise my wages and I won't need a loan
So as the dollar becomes worthless
I seem feel like I need it more than ever
Do white people have their own Craig's list with jobs I just don't know about??
No its not me trying to be funny its me asking a rhetorical question that makes you question perception
No that wasn't "good"
he just wrote what he felt

Finding the beauty in the obvious
You'll feel more alive that way
Why should tight rope walking across my words with sneakers made of egg shells
while 4 golden angels hold back the winds of strife why do I feel a slight draft
on the back of my neck which gives me the chills in the middle of July?
Hand full of dreams left in sweaty palms
Like I forgot 2 take them and swallow
Because I don't do pills
But the truth isn't chewable
Someone once told me I have the nappiest most attractive hair they had ever seen
I said thank you 4 the most lopsided compliment I didn't know what 2 do with
Ignorance doesnt look good on you
We have forgotten the subtly of subtly

This is the sound of the soul of an artist spilling leaving the glass half empty
This is just a hospital with a stage 4 the mentally ill
So why'd you say that poets so sick?
We spit in hopes its contagious
We create out of the desperation 4 the need to know we exist.
So every line is a pinch on the arm of the dreamer who never sleeps.
We only seek your hands stamp of approval so clap

Which just means starting Aug 1st 2008 I will be directly emailing people an exclusive song from my next album "Anything." (which is about 36% finished VERY experimental and full of suprises for the rebel inside of each one of us, a mature album about our immaturity),
songs I make features on,
remixes,
an instrumental I worked on (of course I will be DJ Cluing it up screaming all over it for all you rappers who are looking for a loop to rap on haha),
A song from my upcoming group projects "The They", "Everyone Hears Us" and "Ashley Franklin"
I wont tell you whats coming in your mail to keep you guessing.
All you will know is its coming like that good check on the 1st & the 15th...
Just to keep the suspense going I might send you something the 1st and not the 15th or the 15 and not the 1st or I might send songs both....
Please meet me @ the edge of your seats. Thanks.
So yes I am bootlegging my own music and playing the middle man!
I encourage all to forward every song you dig to their friends, foes and family and  bloggers alike and spread Def 2 all that can hear..
For those that want to sign up for this soon 2 be vast exclusive E-mailing list contact me via myspace.com/defsound84 or gmail Defsound84@gmail.com
the goal is by August 1st 2009 every person on the email list to have my album
and to have a month to live love and or hate each song.
Because in the age of the single who REALLY wants a whole album @ once?
So get ready on some gotta catch em all Pokemon type deal.
Just when we thought the music was worthless and the market was oversaturated.

I'm up
obviously so are you
I'm doing the album cover myself
for the 10000000000 time
I owe my sanity to iTunes
and right now
These lyrics are EXACTLY how I feel right now
Its rare to find lyrics that capture your emotions
like a photograph
and
I thought I should share

"It's cool being the only one
but it's lonely
I could have fallen in love a thousand times before if only someone,
had known me
They say there's someone for everyone
Oh plus the work will be never done
When all you need is to be met halfway but nobody tries...
Don't be surprised...."

-Gnarls Barkley from the Song "Suprise"

(Thank You Cee-Lo
If your reading this
which i assume you are not
But
If My soul had a voice
and I assume it does
it would sound like him.
what would yours sound like?)

So yea "Something." Comes out Tomorrow.

"Far from the best I'm just proof someone's trying....."

Maybe if love was illegal we might try it more often
Think about it as one less thing 2 exploit
One less freedom 4 us 2 take for granted
I think I met her standing
Asking her just 4 her name
Was a risk
She answer
Told me her name was impossible
I didn't believe her
I was told she doesn't exist
I still Wrote her love letters under the alias of
  OpportunityThursday
So I could be a feeling and time @ the same time

Weekly sent 2 page letters where you only read each 4th word backwards
only 2 be read in front of mirrors
Delivered by love dealers
Who hung out on corners cornered the market
With valentine cards that if caught with one could get you 51 shots
And an I love you could cost you ur life
And she was priceless
I still Wrote impossible
Spilled brilliance 2 no applause nightly
proposing with boxes full of promises
Borrowed lines from love poems banned in the name of fear

Now Behind bars 4 placing love behind bars
I was turned in 4 raising the threat level 2 pitch black
They found me in the cave next door 2 Osama
writing incomplete planned suicide notes in
With my own blood as ink
In the form of this
Broken eye lashes playing levy's 4 tears
Flood my floor
This time there are no surviver
Born with fragile handle with care
Stickers on hearts
We live
Damaged in the most unique way

Confused like what do you do @ a Yellow stop sign
We long 4 things 2 short lived
they cant ever be ours
Ours is a path of a nomads memorized
Compassless journeys
2 here's
I was chances unthought about
Tasted hope from her tongue
helped me remember I exist in the eyes of love
Now
I'm broken language braille in slang unfelt

Celled
Signed and delivered
Into prison walls hungry 4 souls
Fed nightly
When you find freedom
Only in Sleep
Dreaming
About loving thee unlovable?
Touching Thee untouchable
Using The invisible marker who's lost its magic
And just creates a mess
@ some point the ink dries

I promise not 2 write songs about you
Why write songs 4 Deaf women?
Not 2 pull another flower petal
Why pick a violet violet when she thinks violets are blue?
Why bark up trees when you can just piss on them?
I'm done trying 2 sky write when it rains
You live up 2 your name
Impossible
We put away the very antidote we know is the cure
We would rather suffer
Feels better that way
Simple is 2 simple
Impossible is the Yoko that passed on 1st dates with John
The one who vomits up the chef's feast
Anorexia of the soul
Allergic 2 happiness
This is forgetting addresses you just want to be present @

Long story's short that never are short
This is a letter written without letters when your days are numbered
I just want to thank you 4 allowing me 2 love you 2 life
