Title: Remembering why I fell in love with you.

Sometimes we become complacent in our relationships. We forget things... what first attracted me to you? what drew me to you? what captivated me? what made me think I couldn't live without you in my life?

The things we loved and brought us together seem a distant memory... some mornings I look at you and can't hide my contempt and disgust. I think about leaving you... leaving you behind with a second thought or look back.

But last night, as I sat in Dirty Frank's with Smiles and PenthouseBoy (guy who lives in the penthouse of the building Smiles and I live in) I was replaying the Toronto job offer over and over in my head, I was reminded why I love you Philly. I didn't know the man in the fedora with the tuba would save our relationship. I didn't give it a second thought when he came in, the Fringe Festival is starting soon, but as a small group started singing Happy Birthday to their friend, the tuba reappeared and the other man in a fedora pulled out a trumpet. Without hesitation they began playing a jazzy version of Happy Birthday.

Applause broke out in the bar. Just then the drummer in from this trio showed up. With a single snare drum strapped to his waist and a cow bell on his hip (and proving my theory that the drummer is always the hottest member of a band). This new and exciting energy filled the bar as this trio played for about a half an hour, marching from one side of the bar to the other many times over.

It's things like this that first brought me to you... the unexpected, your spontaneous nature, and high energy. It has been a while since I have seen it, but last night it was shining bright. I came home last night and put away the visa information. I'm staying. I love you.

Everyone should take a minute and check out the New York based Stumblebum Brass Band.
