Current mood:  happy
I don't know why, but I can't always turn off my internal editor. I think I have a song finished, then I want to start tinkering with it. It seems like by now I should know when a song is finished and, sometimes I do, but then other times I keep playing with it until it sounds right to try and make it work. Why did I bring this up? Well, I have a song I thought was finished called,"Love came back around", that I'm not sure if I like now. I like the feel of it but have changed my mind on the 1st verse, we'll see.

I'm really starting to like this new song,"Get Away". I e-mailed an MP3 to Dave to see what he thought, he loved it too. He's going to add Bass, Piano, Drums, and Brass at his studio so I can get a feel of what it would sound like with the full band. Also,"Watch it Rain", is really getting good responses when I play it out. I wrote that song sometime early last year and the band worked it up to play at the Riverbend Festival, but really haven't played it much since. We need to have a rehearsal and start learning these new original tunes so we can start playing them live.

I guess I should introduce everyone for those of you who don't know the band. Alan Sanders has been the lead guitarist since '95, Keith Tressel on Keys, has been with us since '96, Mark Strickland has been the drummer with us since '98, and Jeff Brewer has been holding down the low end on bass since '04. Dave Schliessman played keys with us for a while around '99-'01 and still sits in whenever he can. On this new CD I'll be using the band as well as several outside players, so I'll introduce everyone as they come along.

Remember, If you'd like to attend the CD release party, be sure to sign up on the e-mail list at www.JScottThompson.com. Hope to see you there!

Wow, I'm beat. The holiday weekend really took it out of me. I played shows, four of the last five days and will do so again this week. So, needless to say, I haven't had alot of time to work on new material. I did write a new tune last Thursday which is tentatively called, "Get away". It's kind of a jazzy, Lyle Lovett kind of song. I did a quick demo of it to play to the guys and they loved it. Also, I tried it out at a few of my performances over the weekend and got some really nice feedback. I'll try and upload the demo of it so everyone can check it out, I'd love to hear what you think.
I've also decided to video some of our studio sessions and upload them as well, so you can see what it is we do in there.

Have a great week everyone!

Current mood:  inspired
Well, it's about time for a new album. Actually it's overdue. I've had some songs ready to go, but finding the time has been the hard part. I also have quite a few unfinished songs that I've needed to get wrapped up so that I can focus on getting them recorded.
Jeff and I met over at Mark's studio tonight to begin doing just that. We worked on one of Jeff's called, "Train to Memphis" and one of mine that is still without a name. I'm going to attempt to blog the entire process of recording the album from these early stages all the up to the CD release party, so stay tuned. Also, if you'd like to attend the CD release party, go to www.JScottThompson.com and get signed up on my e-mail list. We'll send out e-vites through that mailing list.
I hope you'll enjoy following the progress of the album as much as we enjoy creating it! Stay tuned and enjoy!
