Current mood:  distractable
Category: Dreams and the Supernatural
Even though there's been constant sleep deprivation, random pursuits, no alcohol, and lovelorn daydreaming, weirdly, I've actually managed to be rather productive this month.

I've written two poems, and a song (thanks to, and in collaboration with, the highly-talented Vanessa Lewis).

At some point, when I'm less buried in stuff, things, and marking student assignments, it'll get recorded  - it's been a long while since anything new has gone up on here ;-)

Hope all is well in your myriad worlds.

Until next time: love and lentils,

Jennie B xXxxXxx..

Animal rights defender Sean Kirtley has been released so I've stuck the poem: "Free Sean Kirtley" up!

I wrote this poemfor last year's London Vegan Festival.  It's only been performed four times.

More on the campaign to free Sean here, and also on Sequani, the company that invests in, and tests on, animals.

The inevitable "getting over it poem" - has been a long time coming!

Ahem, anyway, Leaves is finally out there in Interwebnet Land.

Read it on: jenbee.wordpress.com.

In other news, I've discovered that one way of lessening depression is by baking enough chocolate brownies to feed a small village.

Big love, hugs, and seashells,

Current mood:introspective and mildly solipsistic
These last two months have zipped by, with the word "zoom" barely legible in the retreating dust.

I finished my course this week, and teaching placement yesterday.  I'm now experiencing this weird "come down" effect; I have been stupidmadbusy since November and now it feels like there's nothing; it's vortex-esque.

However, this is merely the eye of the storm; in a month-and-a-bit I'll be off having more adventures.

In this interim quiet, I think I might try to write something else and stick it up here.  In the last four months, I've written three poems that I'm incredibly happy with - only problem being that I can't publish them quite yet (they're a bit personal, and the timing would be crap).

In this reflective calm, it's funny looking back to where I was last year.  For example, the entry from the 21st January 2008: I spent the beginning of  last year (and other points of 2008) being dragged around the mud by different flavours of gorilla.  And now I haven’t been involved in any activism (bar the G20 protest) since last August. I’m feeling that everything has changed: I’m not the person I used to be. Could I be that person again or am I too knackered/burned out/cynical?

Anyone else get that?

How do we learn from the past?  And can we?  Or should we just let it go, allowing ourselves to tremulously teeter then topple into whatever experience life chucks at us?  I don’t believe in fate, nor in any divine interventions; maybe I should just jump.

Retrospect: what a fickle friend you are.

Current mood:  bouncy

Flippin' 'eck, it's been a while!  Hope all is well in your worlds (whichever worlds they be).

It's been a bit of a crazy year already; I've been busy on my course (teacher training specialising in English literature, language and communications) and have not had much time to perform.  Which is sad for me.  Another sad thing is that the project Emily and I were involved with didn't really take off.  She's still doing stuff so check out her Silent Quarter Myspace to hear both her and Vanessa Lewis' beautiful voices.

I'll (hopefully) be performing at Poets and Picnics this April, and at Manchester Pride at the end of August, so do watch this space :)

Big love to all!

After a brief get together t'other day, I'm very pleased (and bouncing up and down from sheer joy) to say that I'm involved in a brand new project with the exceptionally talented, and beautiful, Emily Garrard from Silent Quarter.

Expect lots of lovely female vocals, weird and ethereal sounds, and general acoustic gorgeousness :)

In other news, I'm a bad influence on my friends as I attempt to outdrink them all (ow, liver).  Damn you, Cherry Brandy.  So sweet, so cherry, so 1980s...

Well, this summer has been a bit of a pick n mix weather wise; today it's autumnal without the beautiful colours.

Sorry for lack of MySpace blog, I mostly update here.  Recently, I've also volunteered for helping organise this year's Oxjam in Manchester, want to get involved?  Then trek over to the Oxjam website to find out how :)

Upcoming gigs include the London Vegan Festival and How Many Poets Does it Take to Change a Lightbulb?.  Maybe I'll get chance to write more things.  Maybe.

Take care y'all.

I finally did it!  I centralised the poetry blog with the best rants from my dusty ole Livejournal.  Hoorah!  It only took me, hmm, a year?!

Anyway, check it out: jenbee.wordpress.com.

More soon x

So that was the Hammer & Tongue final that was.  The only bad thing about last night occured before I got to the Vaults & Gardens.  Just outside Magdalen College on the High, I watched in horror as a duck was run over by a bus. :(

I went into the road King Canute style (and the cars showed no sign of stopping and/or giving a toss) and picked up the duck with the aid of a cyclist and a lovely lady called Charlotte (she's at St Hilda's College  - so if you know her give her a hug as she was amazing and really looked after our duck).

The RSPCA apparently came out later and she laid a broken egg.  Poor thing, she must have been really traumatised.

Anyway.  I made my way to the slam
and all in all had a really nice night last night even thought I semi-forgot the words of precious (about the Cochabamba Water Wars in 2000 and ranting about why bottled water is pants).  Bogdon Pieseski who won was amazing, and my mate, Colombia Solidarity activist Pete the Temp came an impressive second.

I know that the way forward in the future, particularly if I want to return to being a semi-professional performer again, is working on my confidence.
Deep down I'm just a geeky shy hippie really.

I'm hopefully going to perform at The Northern's Manchester Slamm (yes, two ms, I don't know why either) and try and get my confidence up!

One thing that really did help, were my amazing ex-flatmates the Templetons who all came out in force to support me.  Cheers guys, it meant so much to me that words cannot express my gratitude (and I'd worry that I'd come across like a shallow Oscar winner).  Basically, I really, honestly, do love you all xXxx

PS Best bit about the evening, was walking back to the Temple with three friends playing the 'knob' game.  Basically, you substitute the word 'love' in any song and insert 'knob' (pun unintended, but will leave it in coz it amuses my puerile sense of humour).  Childish?  Definitely.  Silly? Oh, most desperately.  Hilarious?  Oh yesh yesh yesh. Examples: Can you feel the knob tonight?, Knob me doCrazy little thing called knobGroovy kind of knob etc. etc. etc.

Well, I certainly didn't expect to win a slam on Tuesday.  But that's what happened and I'm still WELL chuffed :)

The poem I performed is called Dancing On Ice and is on a CD produced by ClimateX and The Nail.  Produced by the ever-talented Steve Larkin of the always fun Inflatable Buddha.

Read it on jenbee.wordpress.com.
