The winner of the competition not only gets to play Detour Festival on the main stage but also gets a $2,500 dollar Guitar Center gift certificate and a Friends And Family deal with Myspace Records. WE WANT TO WIN SOOOO BAD!

We are soo insanely grateful to everyone who has voted for us and continues to vote. Honestly, you have no idea. You guys are some of the dearest friends in the entire world and we cant believe how lucky we are. It really really means a lot

The Black Angels (Austin, TX)

The Black Angels will release their highly anticipated new album Directions To See A Ghost digitally TOMORROW. The physical album will be in stores May 13th via Light In The Attic.

If you liked Passover (and who didn't!) you will absolutely LOVE this record. Directions To See A Ghost features more brutal guitars, more mind-bending psychedelic drone, and more cutting vocals that shake your soul. This record will certainly be in my top ten for the year - and you can quote me on that.

Listen to Directions To See A Ghost in its entirety on the band's imeem page. You can also stream the album right here on Rock Insider using the imeem playlist posted below.

The Black Angels will be playing at Good Records in Dallas, TX this Saturday April 19th as part of National Record Store Day). The band will then head to the UK for a string of dates before returning to the US for some west coast dates.

LA Readers can see them live June 5th at The Troubadour with The Warlocks. Save the date!

Mr Free & The Satellite Freakout play TONIGHT at 6th Street Warehouse

Happy Easter everyone. Some quick news for you.  Tough Shoes is presenting a last minute show TONIGHT with Dragons of Zynth, Rumspringa, The Franks, and Mr. Free & The Satellite Freakout at 6th Street Warehouse.

I saw Mr Free & The Satellite Freakout at a warehouse party in Austin last week at SXSW (photo above). Their live show is like a carnival on acid. It’s definitely not for everyone but is certainly something you got to see to believe Check out this Pitchfork article of their set from Mess With Texas.

Im really stoked to see Dragons of Zynth who are currently on tour with Saul Williams. The show starts at 9:30 pm and includes Free Sparks while supplies last.

"Escape From LA" Thursday March 13th at Antone's and The Lucky Lounge

Last year Rock Insider sponsored a few big parties at SXSW - including 2 that wound up being simultaneous (geez louise!).

Instead of running around this year like a chicken with it's head cut off this year some friends and I formed the Los Angeles Independent Media Group - a group of Los Angeles focused blogs, labels, and zines who support the DIY lifestyle. We've teamed up with Spaceland Productions to throw one MONSTEROUS event spanning two venues next door to each other.

Ladies and gents we're please to announce the first ever "Escape From LA" SXSW Party which will feature 14 of the best bands who call Los Angeles home, Free Dewars, and tons of free swag donate by Los Angeles businesses.

You won't want to miss performances from Autolux, The Airborne Toxic Event, The Deadly Syndrome, Daniel Lanois w/ Brian Blade, Earlimart, Castledoor, Foreign Born, Crystal Antlers, The Pity Party, Mezzanine Owls, Division Day, The Henry Clay People, The Mae Shi, & Oliver Future

To RSVP: email rsvp@clubspaceland.com or text "escapefromla" to 66937 to RSVP and sign up for mobile updates from LA bands at sxsw!
